  • I finally got a Steam Deck! I wanted to wait and see how Valve would support the Steam and they've been really optimizing the OS for this so I decided it was time to reserve one with the hopes it would be in by Christmas. To my surprise right after reserving it the said it was ready so I paid for it and it was in my hands 6 days later. This is truly impressive piece of hardware and I'm so happy I got one. If you've been on the fence about getting a Steam Deck now's definitely the time to get one as there is no waiting period you just order it and they ship it right out. The library of games is massive and it can handle Triple A titles.
Valve is finally selling the Deck on Amazon and you can find it here: amzn.to/3jKAOR0

I've had mine for a little over two months now and I can honestly say the hype with it hasn't died off for me. I was bored of my PS5 within a few days if I'm honest but the steam deck, my god. I'm still playing it every single day. It's just perfect for bed time or sitting on the couch so you can still socialise and play your games at the same time

Its a Switch Killer!!! I've had mine for 3 weeks. This thing blows my mind!! 1 minute I'm remote playing my Xbox on it (Assassins Creed Valhalla), The next I'm streaming gamepass games (Halo), then I boot up my SWITCH games on it (Mario Odyssey), then I'm booting up Sega Genesis and NES systems, then watching netflix and other streaming services And finally I remember oh yeah. I have AAA PC Titles on the Steam store I can run on this, which is what it was meant for LOL.

Dude. In Doom or Halo (or games like them) Go to: Controller Settings > Edit Layout > Gyro > Gyro Behavior > As Mouse > Settings > Gyro > Gyro Enable Button > Right Stick or Right Pad Touch. With this, when your thumb rests on the stick or pad, rotating the deck in your hands will aim. So you'll have the familiar fast response stick to look around but MUCH more precise aiming on top of that. Tilting the device to aim is incredibly intuitive and has a fast learning curve to reach near-mouse precision, (The caveat is it's not so good if you're in a moving vehicle). You can put it in stick mode too if the game doesn’t support mouse input. I'm kind of obsessed with how well it works, I even dusted off my steam controller for this feature as well. I'll never buy another game pad for steam games without a gyro (PS controllers have it too). Don't overlook this amazing game-changing feature!

I've been opening voice chat through steam friends to play various games like valheim and raft with them. I was surprised by how feature complete this system feels. I'm a linux user and haven't touched windows since 2012 so I can say from experience that the software functionality and support is spectacular. I've managed to get dozens of "unverified" games running, and even third party games like FFXIV with XIVLauncher through lutris (there is even an easy option to add a lutris game to steam). I also grabbed an nreal air from a suggestion by another youtube video, and it adds a good 30-45 minutes of playtime if you can put up with glasses. The audio automatically switches to the glasses speakers which is even more immersive for many games. The steam deck is something I wish existed 10 years ago, but I'm happy to support Valve as long as they keep supporting system development like this.

Great video Steve! Loved the shots you used and it's fun hearing your thoughts on the Deck and how much you have been enjoying it! One small thing to note is at 13:59 if a game does state "not supported" that actually does not instantly mean that it will not work on the deck! I have had a few games on my library including Fall guys, Flatout Ultimate Carnage, and Elite Sniper 5 all working on the steam deck with little to no effort! Some will involve installing a free "patch" using the desktop mode to bypass the anti cheat locks and others will actually just involve installing the game, open it, and choose single player mode and it works lol It's super crazy how much you can actually tinker on with the steam deck and the community has been a breath of fresh air seeing all the mods and improvement already being made. it's absolutely amazing!

The steam deck is honestly amazing. Before, being able to play all these games on the go with decent quality was just a dream. I have tried streaming games to my phone via steam link but you have to keep your pc open and there's always that ever so slightly noticeable input lag. The steam deck made that dream a reality. And its super worth it especially for the price. Currently playing God of War on it and its just superb. My only gripe about the SD is the battery life but for what you pay for, I can easily overlook this. You can also carry a power bank around. All in all, I think the SD is probably the best portable handheld gaming that's come out so far.

I've had my SD since July and it's been pretty dope so far. I'm mostly a console player so being able to grab my SD and play console quality games on the go is unreal to me. I take this thing basically any where I know I'm gonna be waiting around for extended periods of time (play it all the time at work on my breaks), and I've yet to have any issues with the battery that a decent power bank can't solve. My go to games atm are Vampire Survivors (this game is straight up crack lol), The Dead Islands games, Dead Rising, Skater XL, and Grim Dawn. They all play flawlessly for the most part with some tinkering of the settings. I'm also pretty excited to start messing around with some emulators once I get around to it soon, the possibilities for this thing are endless honestly.

Each game has certain ways to make modifications, where I either had to add executables as a non-steam app, or I had to open up Konsole and do Protontricks to open mod patchers. Thankfully there's guides for that kind of stuff. It's a learning experience using this, but I'm glad I have it. Definitely worth the money. Seeing your able to play doom with no noticeable lag is awesome and has convinced me to buy it. I don’t have a steam account, but I’m mainly looking to only emulate games anyway. Recently got a nice dose of nostalgia when my fiancé borrowed her family’s Wii U and games to show me what she used to play. Turned out they had mortal kombat Armageddon for it, which I didn’t even know was on the wii. Terrible controls with the nunchucks so I bought a controller, of course I bought the wrong one (it worked for some games but not the Wii games) but it was only 25$ so no biggie. Turns out, I’m supposed to buy this wired controller that plugs into the nunchuck, only costs 10$ and got here same day from Amazon. Pulled a all nighter playing the story mode and loved every bit of it. Haven’t had that much fun gaming (non multiplayer games) since doom 2016 dropped. I find the Switch quite a bit more comfortable to hold than the Deck. I get mild cramps after 30-60 minutes with the Deck but I can play Switch or Switch Lite for hours at a time without issue.
It seems to vary by person. It probably has something to do with exactly the way you grip it. Maybe a tight grip works better with heavy+handles and a light touch is better suited for light+thin? I’m not aware of any research anyone has done so it’s all just a guess for now.

awesome review. zou reallz got into more detail than let us saz LTT while showing more B Roll. I love mine. I could have ordered mine in Q2 but chose late Q3 512 because I did not like the transition of the beyyel to screen... The steam deck has the same feeling as what I felt in 2016 when I tried Linux Ubuntu fro mz first time, freeing, well rounded but back then no support for most games. Now most stuff just runs so much better than windows. I mean blutooth audio is better than on Mac, Windows, iOS and most wired audio on windows pcs. Valve reallz did aptx LL with no alteration of audio through compression or equaliyer use . TLDR, great screen with bad blacks, audiophile level speakers minus bass and best in class controlls. Steam deck needs to allow 1080p for SD2 for modern TVs and lock up higher resolutions bezond 1600x1200 the highest main resolution on CRTs (VGA pc monitors|) and is still the highest supported resolution in manz games before UI or other stuff breaks or is too small. SD is perfect and low power consumption for all the ppor EU folks like me too. It is reallz hellish now with all politicians doing like nothing to prevent mass break downs of the average and low tier citiyens

In a way it’s almost not a first gen product. There was the Steam Box that helped them nail the hardware and the software and the Steam Controller that was the first gen of the controls here. Both left some things to be desired, so I’m really glad to see it coming together for the SD so well. I’m hoping that if they come out with an SD2 that they provide a way for us to update the original with newer parts since it’s so nicely modular and repairable.

I do like having the DPAD and buttons where they are at though, its just more ergonomic.

Opportunity, position, time, frequency, remiding how to continue the game, waiting for loading…I concluded all these factors to play a console game with an expression "boot cost". Sitting in front of a TV to play PS5 is the behavior of extremely high boot cost for a middle-aged, merried man. But turning on steam deck, wow, it's as easy as drinking ice-cold coke in a work break, relaxing and low cost. That's why I love deck so much.

I been playing portable gaming since the 1980's even years before the Gameboy came out but I must say the Gameboy, Gameboy Color are two of the most comfortable portable gaming devices I still use to this day. And also the original Gameboy Advance (that was almost like a SNES controller) Never have my hands got tired or cramped up. The PSP, PS Vita, DS, DS Lite, DSi XL, 3ds, Switch all cramp up on me bad. Only reason I'm hesitant with Steam Deck is the cramping. I'm 6'3 with big hands too. The one thing about the Steam Deck I'm thinking would be better is it's a lot thicker than the Switch plus the old Sega Game Gear never gave me a problem at all. It was wide but thick plastic. But yeah even nowdays sometimes I just take the Gameboy with me traveling over the Switch. Better games optimized for on the go, longer battery life and comfort.

I was able to buy the parts quickly but the actual daughter board which i suspect has the broken button is not sold on ifxit so i'm going to have to attempt to solder a new button myself. That button is easily remapped to one of the back bumpers. Besides that it's been really fun and while i've mostly been playing older titles performance has been amazing.

Promising device. Trying to buy the instance for my son. Yeah, I live in Russia and we can buy here the Steam Deck 512 for 1100$ (cause no official supply from Valve in our country it cost really high). At this point I did try 3 instances - one 256Gb and two 512Gb. All three has serious defects - friction of left stick and top case (the hole in case for stick is not right circle form and has more like egg form), after the day of active usage the stick start literally gam. And other issue which was on all three instances as well - serious light bleeding, especially on top-left corner (it has yellow tint a bit). So, I noticed that yellow tint light bleeding on this video as well. But top case holes for sticks has right circle form.
