The American state of North Dakota is experiencing an oil boom. Using new technologies it is extracting oil thats previously been out of reach. Can this help solve Americas dependency on foreign oil?
Spurred on by record high oil prices, North Dakotan farmers are going after hard to reach oil, and their land is finally making them rich. Dakota sits on the Bakken, a rock formation with huge potential oil reserves. With current technology, we can get 1% to 2% of the oil out of the Bakken, we may be able to collect 2 billion barrels, tells the President of North Dakotas Petroleum Council. Former oilman T. Boone Pickens believes America needs to end its reliance on foreign oil. Yet he doesnt think the oil reserves here are enough to fuel America, you can't drill your way out he claims. Americas need for a new energy future looks set to bring yet more change, and wealth, to North Dakota.

Technology continues to advance. Should make the Bakken very competitive over next 10 years.

North Dakotans are kick ass. Between our oil and nuclear weapons, we could rule the world.
I even heard Chuck Norris wants to change his show to "Walkerson - North Dakota Ranger".

I cannot believe that these people were standing so close to the sour gas burnoff. It just goes to show that lots of money will take away any intelligent thought as to what these oil wells do to human life, wildlife and ecosystems. This land and it's resources should not be to the profit of anyone. The profits from this oil ought to go into medical and ecological systems instead of burdening hardworking taxpayers. Too many men getting too rich at the expense of the suffering of others!

The oil boom is over and so are the jobs, good luck trying to stay alive in your trailer or car during the 9 months of winter at -30 degrees F. The welfare benefits are no longer available either-run away from this harsh state as fast as you can.
