Electrician here. I just love coming into smart homes that were wired 10-15 years ago and all the tech is out dated, parts arent available, and no one left behind the wiring schematics.
Yup. As an InfoSec engineer, I'm scared to death by people who allow their "smart" homes to be set up by glorified audio guys. This is not a "Smart Home"....it's a Voyeur's Theatre, wide open for the taking I'm sure. Yikes.

To be fair I have a house I paid 165k for, and staying home is not too hard. I think just having a comfortable place to be is all that matters. It's why I never want to rent, I like a place to truly call my own.

Love my smart home, took time to get used to everything but now I catch myself being other places and trying to do things via voice lol. He was very excited about gigabyte internet. Seems pretty normal nowadays. I do like those speakers, next house.

I understand where you’re coming from, but that’s not how frequencies work. Higher frequencies around 550+ hertz can shatter glass, but low end would just shake the room.

Time domain reflectometry and a toner can locate a break, and the downed device identifies the wire. Animals do like wires though. We have had 2 power outages from squirrels alone.

All of the wiring, networking, and media data center is really impressive. Based on what I’ve seen, a lot of these things can be also be achieved with basic smart home accessories and automations, but you have the sleek design. A downside to consider is maintenance and upgrades. While this house is impressive now, technology is always changing. Speakers in the wall are cool but it may be hard access if something needs upgrading. Overall the planning that went into this was smart and will last a while.

I agree voice assistants are only going to get better and better with time. I love using Alexa. I though for sure when your wife said Alexa it would trigger the Echo Show that is close by, but no. Lol when you said Siri, my iPad started listening to you. You literally woke up Siri on my iPad. That has never happened to me before.

If I'm not mistaking, Linus sad they have 10 Gbit/s to the main Internet Exchange in Vancouver, but "only" 5 Gbit/s to the broader Internet. Anyway, it's impressive, especially considering it's a dedicated connection made for enterprises, not just a residential or SMB shared connection, like GPON.

I randomly stumbled on this vid, as a cyber security expert I would say that this is a HUGE attack surface.. And he basically gave a walkthrough to all his appliances, the only next step is to find a vulnerability in his automation system..
With how little he actually knows about any of this it would probably become a misconfigured mess in about a week
@@ThePurpleSquares1 yeah, i guess it's still best to leave the most critical components like locks, hvac and your appliances off the grid for now. More that 50% of the iot vendors don't do a good enough job at securing their products. Security needs to be built from the ground up, where as in most iot appliances its just there as a think layer above the entire application. The true nightmare is actually having Alexa in each room.

Tech in this house will work. Its not like its a computer that needs to perform and overtime it wont be able to run the games you want. The technology in the house works for everything in the house at the moment, and only will stop working if he added new things. how often do you change your lights or speakers in your house? Also cables will last a long time, the things that might change may be the servers and command computers.
He is going to need service contract just for all the tech

It's true this tech is already a decade old plus house kinda got some cheap vibes ngl. Not real wood or imported tile etc. Just what 400k gets you anywhere but good places NYC LA SF Boston etc, anywhere inland and not coastal with no industry

As a low voltage integrator I feel bad on the systems that they had installed, for most companies in this business these kind of houses are a dream because of the endless service calls over the years. The worst part was deciding to go with with a Control 4 control system and lighting. I wish you best over the next couple of years.
