Thanks to your great video, I, a 76 yr old lady, was able to find out how to take out my double deep IKEA drawer, and put it back correctly! This huge drawer holds everything under the sink, huge compost tub, garbage holder, and tub of cleaning stuff. I couldn’t get at the plumbing to tighten my wobbly facet, and the family, from whom I rent, are away for two weeks. You saved the day, and let me feel very empowered. I CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!😊
I could NOT have done this WITHOUT you dude, There are no words just pictures in the instruction manual! You are saving IKEA's business one person at at time. I am not inclined to do this work but yo save money, I am attempting AND succeeding thankx too you. Thankx for sharing the fix your clicks mistake. So we don't break any clips in the drawers
I know this is kinda old now, but thanks for leaving it up. I have these drawers in my kitchen and one of the rails pulled loose. Contractor seems to have only put one screw in the front part of each of them so weight was just eventually enough. And I couldn't remember how to take them out without disassembling them so this helped me a TON. I also used the opportunity to reinforce the rails -- recommended for anyone using the large size maximera for dishes/pots/pans.
Kody, you're my hero! I am normally quite skilled and confident when assembling Ikea products, but this is my first kitchen, and I was tearing my hair out trying to decipher some of the instructions for the Maximera drawers. This video gave me the few bits of information that I was missing in the hieroglyphic instructions. The whole video series has been full of great information, but this one was especially helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks, I couldn't get last row of drawers to fit. It'd been awhile since I assembled the bulk of cabinets. Took off the drawer face, reviewed directions, corrected my errors and everything works as Ikea conceived. Thanks I've been at it long enough to know it was my error, but couldn't figure it out by myself!
Thanks very much for your video! I looked through the instructions and then watched your video before assembly. I had totally missed the nuanced upper or lower holes in installing the rails, as well as the flush vs recessed front instructions. This was super helpful!
Kody, props out to you tonight. Putting together a Maximera 3 drawer and couldn't figure out why the middle drawer was slightly out of line. Was super familiar with the older Akurum line, but this is my first Sektion kitchen. Knew I would find an answer from you...the VERY subtle difference in the screw locations for the mechanism that clicks into the drawer front between the bottom drawer and the middle caught me. Thank you SO much for pointing out that super subtle difference in the instruction manual. Screws relocated and drawer fits like a glove.
I made that same mistake with my bottom (high) drawer. I had to reread those instructions a few times to catch that subtle difference. These videos are very useful.
Many many thanks Kody. I cannot tell you how helpful your video was for me. Everytime we go to our place in Spain I try to improve something. This holiday it was to fit two hidden soft close internal drawers in the kitchen. The drawers in the kitchen in Spain are quite deep and the air space at the top of the drawer is unused. Putting in a hidden drawer would utilise this space. Of course the process of any DIY project is not always straightforward. Ikea have many kitchen variants and which one is yours! Luckily I have kept all the receipts and plans for the Kitchen in Spain and ours is a Maximera Kitchen. Once this is identified you have to buy the right kit on the Ikea website and the drawer and drawer fronts are sold separately. I am knowledgeable now but on the first pass it is daunting. A quick trip to Ikea in Malaga and under the tutelage of a very helpful assistant all was sorted. The cost was extraordinarily cheap. The drawer was Euros 38 and the drawer front Euros 8. I bought three fronts in case of error! Ikea instruction manuals are not for the feint hearted. Each manual was 44 pages long. It covered all variants of the Maximera drawer range and it was up to you to follow the page sequencing for your drawer. I gave up and watched Kody's very helpful RUclips Video. Armed with the video and my manual the first drawer was constructed and installed in three hours. Mistakes were made and the whole thing was disassembled and restarted. Making sure the drawer base was fitted correctly in the slide grooves is important! The real trick was the positioning of the runners in the cupboard which was difficult to understand initially. The problem was that the handles on the exterior door front had screws on the back and the suggestion for the runner position in the manual did not allow clearance for these screws. The hidden door front was damaged when the screws from the exterior panel bashed into it. I worked out the correct position, replaced the door front and all was well. Fitting required a new exploration of yoga positions and it was 31 degrees centigrade (88F) in Spain! The second one took 30 minutes from beginning to end. I am very smug and proud. The drawers are perfect in spite of my Wife’s frequent exultations to “leave it, that will do”. Perfection is what we seek! Thank you again Kody for making this project such a success.
Thanks Kody! I'm trying to assemble some base cabinets in a vacation home in MX, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to complete on my own. After watching your videos, it was easy peasy.
So, I put my Maximera drawers into the cabinet and the bottom one (a high drawer) was tilted in a bit at the top. I went straight to one of Kody's videos on Maximera drawers knowing he would have the answer. Thanks again for these videos.
Oh my gosh, thank you! Starting at time stamp 5:56, thanks to you, is where my lightbulb finally went off about the instructions. I understood that each drawing led me to a different way of attaching the drawer front, but I couldn't decipher that with the gray coloring of the drawers they were trying to point out that the instructions are for those specific drawers (where they are installed into the cabinet). Top versus bottom. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I totally get it now. Okay... back to assembling I go.
This is very, very helpful. But where is "that other video"? I've gone through your videos and can't find it. You refer to "another video" several times but darned if I can find them.
Thank you for the video it was very helpful. I struggled with the rail placement until I saw your video. It took a magnifying glass to see what hole the rail screw went in, could Ikea not make it any smaller as hole placement is critical for the hidden drawer and large drawer.
Yes you are correct. Probably helps from bowing the front over years of pulling on it. Kody - your videos have been insanely helpful! Do you have any tips/videos for installing a 24x30 door front on the maximera drawer? The holes in the door front are for hinges, not drawers so its not as self explanatory as everything else!
I have this problem, too! My Ringhult 15Wx20H door front only has hinge holes! I'm not sure where to screw/install those metal clips! From what I see on your drawer, I'm thinking that the under-drawer-shelf piece is screwed in about an 1/8" from the bottom...Hope it works out!
Re installing the soft close part. 1) I'm supposed to break off the little plastic piece before installing? 2)when you refer to another video of yours about removing it, please state which video that is.
Have you ever installed the drawer rails before completely assembling the cabinets? Two years ago, I assembled 5 of these cabinets for my office. I did it per the instructions. It's such a tight space to screw the drawer rails into a closed cabinet. If I know what size drawers I'm installing I should just be able to count the holes, right? Is there a reason NOT to do this?? I'm over being a contortionist. Would like to know your opinion. Thanks
I have assembled a lot of Ikea stuff but this is my first time with kitchen cupboards. after watching a few videos I am very comfortable attacking my newest job. thanks a lot for this video as some of my installations involve slideing drawers. but would it not be easier to install the sliders before actually assembling the unit? you don't have to climb inside after all right? just sayin'
@@uptokode boy that little trick to take the drawers apart after assembling really came in handy a couple of times. as easy as it is to put these things together of course I made a couple of mistakes but that trick made them easy to correct and I finished the job yesterday and they look great, thanks again.
Hi Kody, first of all great video. I have a question. I have basic non Ikea shaker cabinets and I'd like to add these maximera hidden drawers by replacing the shelves in the lower cabinets. The measurements sort of match. What do you think about this idea? Is it worth to try and see or do you think it'd be a painful waste? Thanks so much
Oh one more question; on the Maximera measurements says "Frame, depth: 24 " " I think the drawer hardware doesn't use all of the 24" depth that thinking the Sektion cabinet depth is also 24" but in your video on the hidden drawer installation, there is still just a little bit room in the back and its not touching back of the cabinet. My concern is if the maximera drawers depth would not fit into my cabinets.
If the boxes are IKEA then the drawers will work! That’s the beauty of the system, you can change the functionality of a cabinet with minimal effort or cost.
Thanks for the videos! I have an issue I haven't been able to resolve. I have a 24" wide base cabinet with 3 internal medium drawers and a 24x30 door front with the 153 degree hinges. I believe I've put the drawers on the correct holes, but there's no room for the lower door hinge. It seems that I'd have to raise that bottom drawer about 2 inches, which leaves a funky void below. What am I missing?
Thank you so much! I want to ask to expand a bit on the removal you do in 13.45.. I don't get this done. There used to be white plastic clips underside the rail which you had to push up to unlock the drawer, but they are no longer there in the latest (December 2019) model...
Hi Kody, your videos are great. Maybe you can help me. I'm assembling the maximera two drawers and I can't make the bottom drawer fit. the top and hidden drawer worked fine, but when I put the bottom one it clashes with the top one so it doesn't close correctly. Please help!! Thank you in advance.
I can’t remember if this video shows the specifics of the drawer hole placement. You really have to keep an close eye on what hole is used depending on drawer layout. How to Read and Understand IKEA Kitchen Manuals ruclips.net/video/em4npozEkCs/видео.html
Have you ever put two drawer fronts together to make a large pull out door? We have two such fronts and can not seem to get the fronts to straighten out. Any suggestions as how to fix this or is there something we may have done wrong.
Kody, is it okay to use the maximera low drawer for the bottom of a 30 inch sektion cabinet with a 30 inch by 20 inch front? I made the mistake of buying a high maximera and the back of the drawer hits the disposal.
Hey Kody, how do you fit those little plastic things with the flat head - it's what you skipped at 8:47 :D Those things are too thin for me, they just fall out... Is there something I'm missing?
hey there, i am looking to convert my 12” lower cabinet into 3 drawers, s m l in size respectively. how do i go about modifying 15” to narrow down to 12”, i will be making front panel separately. i know this is more of an ikea heck question than installation, but i thought you may have an idea. thanks
Ikea uses PZ head screws, instead of the standard P2 Philips style. I thought it was a gimmick at first, but they hold almost as well as a star drive if you have the right bit. Unfortunately, I have a hard time finding the bits in the US. I was sure I could find them back in the day, but over the past few years they seem to have disappeared. Maybe I'm just losing my mind. ☹
We have the under the sink drawer and removed it to add a new countertop. Now when we put the drawer back in, the soft close doesn't engage. Any helpful hints for us?
@@uptokode Can you show us again if you do another IKEA kitchen video? Mine keep falling out after opening and closing the drawers a few times and I find it very annoying.
Hey Kody! So I am getting my cabinet set me where else, but they don’t. Have a lot of organization choices for pullouts and roll out. I was thinking of using ikeas. Do you think that possible? I would be interested in using the drawers that are set back. Are there specific drawers you use for that or can you do it with any maximera drawer
@@uptokode thank you for your reply, but I don't need this answered anymore since just before I was about to purchase the cabinets @ cabinets.com my husband changed his mind and we went with Ikea. Got the works!
Great video. Does the hardware for mounting the drawer fronts come with the Maximera drawers or the drawer fronts? I'm thinking about making an island with Metod cabinets and maximera drawers with custom fronts and I don't want to buy the Ikea drawer fronts just for the hardware.
The drawers have a release lever at the bottom front, so you don't need to wiggle them out of the rails. Just look for the levers with your fingers and push them up.
@@uptokode thank you for your encouragement, I'm going to try it tonight. What tripped me up was the part near the end when you adjusted something in the drawer slide
Great vid, I just wish Ikea made a full height side rails, optional adding of extra filler rails or at least 2/3 height. That would keep all the drawer items from jambiing up inside. Good point on the Phillips screws. Seems so old school thinking. Robertson or torx would a perfect choice.
Great info thank you! one annoying thing about the videos is the number of ad breaks!! if it is possible to adjust that some how that would be awesome. But great content
Not sure of the name. IKEA usually has mix and match bins near the return area. Good place to start looking. Or screenshot the video at that time and show someone at the store. They can help. Especially in the kitchen department
Agreed. I’ve seen some “custom” cabinets recently that still used particle board and they were garbage compared to IKEA. The boxes and the fronts were an obvious lesser quality and a higher price. 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Can anyone watching this help? we have 12" base cabs with " pull out interior fittings" we have the rails put on bottom and middle on opposite sides, but they are running so badly? They stop before closing all the way and jiggling them like you might do a normal drawer can kind of get it closed but it's clearly not sitting right since there is a gap at the top of the front when it's "closed".... What can we try in terms of troubleshooting? Remove soft close part? Urghhh
@@uptokode fair enough! We are thinking of looking at the soft close thing because it seems like it just stops dead right when it gets to that part (doesn't roll closed) and when we kind of force it it feels like it's scraping. Will update if we figure it out!
The video is good up until the point you say that in order to remove the drawer you need to ""wiggle it" - This is not the proper way! you should press the clipses the sit in the bottom front side and that releases the tracks.

Phone a fastener company. Someone who specializes
We have the under the sink drawer and removed it to add a new countertop. Now when we put the drawer back in, the soft close doesn't engage. Any helpful hints for us?
What video has the segment about removing the plastic from the soft close mechanism?
I don’t actually remember. Sorry.
Hi Cindy. I don’t understand your question. Can you clarify or add more detail for me? Thanks.
@@uptokode thank you for your reply, but I don't need this answered anymore since just before I was about to purchase the cabinets @ cabinets.com my husband changed his mind and we went with Ikea. Got the works!
You say to punch out that gray plastic piece on the soft closer. I don’t see that in instructions or in part 4 of 5. Will you elaborate on that?
Answered my question and saved my ass at 7:55 …
I redeemed myself!!
Thank you!!
Hahaha. I love it.
Thank you Sir Kody 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Anytime! Thank you
Great video. Does the hardware for mounting the drawer fronts come with the Maximera drawers or the drawer fronts? I'm thinking about making an island with Metod cabinets and maximera drawers with custom fronts and I don't want to buy the Ikea drawer fronts just for the hardware.
Pretty sure the hardware to mount the fronts comes in the maximera box
Is it possible the 15inch drawer front has a lower back?
Thank you very much from danmark👍🌺
You’re welcome 🇨🇦
What video shows how to remove soft closure mechanism?
Great tips
Thank you
Can these hidden drawer fit non ikea drawers
Do you want to use an IKEA drawer in a non-ikea box? You certainly can as long as the box width is the same as ikea’s
Very helful thanks bro i screwed up first bottom drawer so had to take it off thanks God bless
You’re welcome!
¡Gracias!
Thanks Kody!!
You’re welcome
hello, has anyone intstalled a Kitchen Aid wall oven with microwave?....Are the shelves strong enough.
The shelves are strong enough. I’ve done one.
thank you!
🤙
The drawers have a release lever at the bottom front, so you don't need to wiggle them out of the rails. Just look for the levers with your fingers and push them up.
There is none on mine
Well this looks alot more daunting than I thought 😬
It always seems more difficult until you just start. After 1 or 2 you find a good system and work flow.
@@uptokode thank you for your encouragement, I'm going to try it tonight. What tripped me up was the part near the end when you adjusted something in the drawer slide
You got this
Great vid, I just wish Ikea made a full height side rails, optional adding of extra filler rails or at least 2/3 height. That would keep all the drawer items from jambiing up inside. Good point on the Phillips screws. Seems so old school thinking. Robertson or torx would a perfect choice.
How do I disassemble these drawers because my contractor put them together wrong and I need to adjust them
I think this video has the answer. Adjusting IKEA Drawer Fronts and Removal
The link doesn’t seem to be working. Search the title in my other comment. Hope that helps.
OK, where is the guide for the drawer slide layout?
It will be in the maximera box with the drawer assembly
@5:04 the screws are pozidrive #2. Get some Wera bits PZ2 and you will never cam out again on Ikea builds.
I need to grab some of these bits. I appreciate the tip
That intro's pretty loud, my friend :) at least for me, after adjusting to hear your voice at the beginning :)
Thanks for sharing bud
Gotcha! I hate making mistakes like this cause I can only change it on future videos but not this one.
Great info thank you! one annoying thing about the videos is the number of ad breaks!! if it is possible to adjust that some how that would be awesome. But great content
I need to get some of the those small plastic things at 9:56 of the vid. What are is it called?
Not sure of the name. IKEA usually has mix and match bins near the return area. Good place to start looking.
Or screenshot the video at that time and show someone at the store. They can help. Especially in the kitchen department
@@uptokode thanks for getting back to me. I called Ikea, and they are sending me some brackets. Thanks again.
Guys, Ikea made a wrong guide how to install a drawer.
When you install front panel put maximera connectors higher.
Спасибо вам большое! ❤
People bash ikea for using particle board but it’s well eneginered and I’d trust it over 5/8 plywood.
Also they use Blum hardware
Urghhh
Really hard to tell without seeing it.
@@uptokode fair enough! We are thinking of looking at the soft close thing because it seems like it just stops dead right when it gets to that part (doesn't roll closed) and when we kind of force it it feels like it's scraping. Will update if we figure it out!
In case anyone is following this it was that the screw on the bottom front of the rail was one hole over. Yep that's it and it was fixed.
don't get why there's hidden drawers... your can't use the full space of the bottom ones
why don't you just put two small drawers? cuz of looks?
Oh my goood I am so fucking duuumb, thank you so very much for this video :))
Which cabinet fronts are these?
that takes a possi #2 tip not a phillips , its easyer to order on line
Love your videos, but the sound quality is poor 😕 Could you address so that we get the full benefit if your expertise?
The video is good up until the point you say that in order to remove the drawer you need to ""wiggle it" - This is not the proper way!
you should press the clipses the sit in the bottom front side and that releases the tracks.
