  • @tobiasmuller9937
    @tobiasmuller9937 2 года назад +54

    I guess, I will be down voted for this, but I am highly skeptical of this build. Large parts of the paludarium consist of exposed construction foam which has a large surface area due all its little bubbles and cannot be cleaned. The plants are set in a way such that I have a hard time to believe that they will thrive. Instead, many of them will simply die. Finally, the water body is way too small for any fish, let alone neon tetra, a swarm fish that needs a large volume for swimming.

    • @ichrised

    I am new to all of this. So, do you have a closed watercycle here? the waterfall feeds the pond where the fish swim, and this water is pumped to the waterfall again? why dont you need a filter in this case?

    • @yourlocaltoad5102
      @yourlocaltoad5102 2 года назад +33

      In builds like this, the plants that take their water from the waterfall act as a natural filter so in most cases adding a filter isn’t really necessary.
      But if you add species that strongly contaminate the water (like frogs that poo into the water or fish that pollute a lot), adding an additional filter or doing frequent waterchanges becomes necessary.
      I have a similar setup without a filter and so far I haven’t had to do a single waterchange even tough the tank is running for over a year.

    • @ferretwonderland
      @ferretwonderland  2 месяца назад

      Thank you so much! Your paludarium sounds amazing, and Amazon milk frogs are such a great choice! As for adding fish, it really depends on how you manage the water quality. With proper filtration and regular water changes, it's possible to maintain healthy conditions for both frogs and fish. Just make sure to choose fish that are compatible with the frogs’ environment and won't stress them out. Good luck with your build!

      I don't know the fogger's brand.
      I think the most aquarium mist maker can be used.

    Hey, I’m a general contractor and we use those gap-filling foams. And I got 9 boxes full of it in my garage. Do I need to get a specific one for aqua/terra riums? Or will these work too?

    Very beautiful! But you did not use any cocopit on the foam... The foam is direct visitable.... Is there any reason for this?

      If you look at the other comments the type of plants are explained and why they don’t need soil, I myself cannot quote the specific type of plant sorry.

    How do the plants survive ? You just place them on foam but how/from what do the roots pull nutrients ?

    beautiful but I have one question. How does the water get to the filter box. Isn't the mesh covered with expanding foam.

    • @ferretwonderland
      @ferretwonderland  Год назад

      Thank you for your compliment and question! The expanding foam is only applied to secure the mesh in place, and it doesn't cover the entire mesh. The water is able to flow through the mesh and into the filter box, which is located below the mesh. I hope this answers your question!

    Please advise, in a setup like this, with a polypropylene housing for a pump/filter, can you also put a small heater (30W - 50W) inside the housing without melting anything? thanks
