As a huge VR nerd, I have some major suggestions. 1. Skip airlink/link cable, the compression used by Meta is frankly just terrible. Steamlink is quite good, and makes Steam VR work with little to no hassle, but Virtual Desktop is the cream of the crop, although it has a bit of a ‘learning curve’. AV1 encoding or 10 bit H.265 at higher bitrates are incredible on VD. 2. Get a dedicated router/AP just for VR, preferable a wifi 6E router. As much as it is a meme, the minions wifi 6E AP is the best bang for your buck in this department, nothing comes close price to performance wise. A stable, strong, fast connection only for VR makes a major difference. 3. If you liked Half Life Alyx, give Boneworks a try! It’ll probably make you pretty sick our first time playing it, but it is probably the best demonstration of what VR is capable of gameplay wise. No idea if you’ll read this, but hope you give it a shot! Love what you do, and it’d be cool to see how much your experience improves when not trying to do things the ‘Meta intended way’
Hi, as a person that is doing all of those except trying Boneworks, can you tell me what you think about Bonelabs? I keep hearing that Boneworks is much better than Labs, and i played maybe 2 hours of that on Quest 2 before i was bored.
What about Steam Link as an alternative if you can't afford Virtual Desktop, is it that worth? Need to know before I buy a dedicated router for this thing, genuine questions as I'm finally coming from a RiftS to a Quest3 and Steam Link has been okay other than my wifi being shit
@@DreamyKiley it has it's own issues, not best quality stream but it works better than the quest link app. Even on quest 2 the difference between steam and Virtual Desktop is very noticeable. (but you have to dedicate 5 hz connection to the quest on your modem and be as close as possible to it while the computer is connected with ethernet)
if you wanted to play assetto corsa, then I would recommend that you download content manager/Custom Shaders Patch, Pure or sol and RainFX This makes the experience much better
Haha!! Yeah I learned the instant it touched my head that it was a piece of crap. I got it purely coz it looked like it might work well in a chair. I was wrong. 😂
Bobo ve makes cheaper elite straps. Well, it was cheaper than the original one for my Quest 2 anyway, hopefully the same is true for the 3. Also, at least with the one I’ve got, there’s an optional fan to make air flow between the Quest and face, avoiding fogging and keeping heat under control. Love that thing lmao
Assetto Corsa doesnt actually, completely look like ass, even though its old, if you drive a track that was officially included in the game, rather than choosing a modded track, and crank up the settings, it should make a decent difference in experience. Official tracks on AC are more detailed, whereas modded tracks are just scale replicas with not alot of work put into the little details.
@@LPMusicON Adding those things can be a bit of a faff which im sure he didnt have time for 😆, Nordchleife is a good example of how AC looks with max settings
@@lizaamesau8066 I'd argue that if you want to make a comprehensive video and have the best experience I'd be in order. Getting CSP/Pure/PPFilter can be done in 30 mins though it just requires going to racedepartment and finding correct links. It's funny though that he had all of those problems with Quest Link, I'm using cheapo USB3 cable for it and never had those issues. Maybe he forgot to set resolution/refresh rate in Quest app in the first place? That could explain pixely look as it defaults to like 60/70% of native res.
Did you turn off "foveated rendering"? (for that sharpness issue, since it will make everything "on the edge" of the screen render in lower resolution)
It makes sense that someone with a 4k display would think it doesn't look the best but for people used to 1080, the quest looks just fine. It's not meant to be "the best headset in the world" but it's good for people looking to get into the space. I'm not trying to diss you I'm just letting other people know who maybe have never tried vr and play games casually and don't need it to be 1 to 1 from real life
You have a point. Most tech RUclipsrs eventually get out of touch once they have access to such high tech. Though, Dawid is still fun to watch. I think OptimumTech is good, too. He didn't say many negatives about VR sim racing but loves it. He gave up 2 of his expensive monitors to run VR only.
I've been playing games in 4k for around 10 years (since the r9 290x) and personally I think the quest 3 looks great. We have to remember this thing is running an arm cpu, not a rtx 4090. The performance they squeeze out of it is impressive and the 3d aspect of it takes away from it not having 4k levels of detail.
Yeah, it's always interesting to see where some people have their priorities. I personally couldn't care less how much sharper a small, flat monitor can be if I can actually BE THERE, you know? @@GrumpyWolfTech
I call it the “Nintendo switch” experience. Where graphics may be crappy. But if you only care and enjoy the gameplay. It’s actually pretty fun. Games such as Job/vacation simulator. May have meh graphics. But the game is so much fun. You’ll forget about the crappy graphics.
The thing is, I don’t think the headset is the issue. Like I said, Half life Alyx looks amazing. So it’s clearly capable of producing awesome visuals. It’s just really difficult to get stuff to look good in VR. But you’re right, everyone is different. I just happen to be very sensitive to pixel density issues, and VR literally shoves it in your face.
I second this. The bobo VR straps have been my go to. Though, I also have a nice 4K primary monitor and I haven't experienced this problem he described with my headsets that I have. I am really confused by what he means haha, funny thought that Alyx doesn't have the issue.
I have been using 4k monitors for 4+ years at this point yet i still find the Quest 3 amazing value for money, and most titles looks pretty decent when running stand-alone on the headset. I think Dawid is being a bit too critical in this video tbh
I’ve heard good things about the Bobo strap. I’m gonna do a video where I pimp out the headset with stuff off AliExpress and I’ll see if I can get a Bobo strap in the process.
Half Life: Alyx is a great game. I spent an hour the first time I played on the balcony in awe. First headset was a VIVE, then I got an Index. Now, I have a Quest 2. I have the same issues with connecting to the PC via cable. It is hit or miss. MSFS2020 is also amazing with a headset. I haven't tried it yet with the Quest 2, but it truly is wonderful with the Index.
I also have Quest 2 and i just fully gave up on using cable to connect to my PC. I use Virtual Desktop app on the quest, with both the PC and wifi 6 access point connected by cable. It looks the same and works reliably all the time
Your comment could have been mine, word for word (had all those headsets :) ) I've pretty much stopped using cables, the wireless link just seems so much better and so much more freeing :)
Star Wars Squadrons is great in VR, I have dual band on my router so just dedicate a channel for the headset and run a wired connection to the PC so never bothered with trying a USB cable. Tricked out my Quest 2 with a bunch of stuff from VR Cover, replaced the face plate, strap and some stuff for the controllers that make it much more confortable to use. Don't really use it very much once the novelty wore off.
The struggle is real with link cables on the quest 2 for pcvr. Just figuring out what cable to get, first time set up and launching it every time is cumbersome. Although I do think it's worth it just to play Alyx and Skyrim VR. However, It's a so much better experience using it as a stand alone VR headset with quest games. Just put it in and go and it just works great for games like Beat Saber, Asgard's Wrath 2 and Till you fall.
Great video. I've purchased it to use mainly with a pc. Using virtual desktop (godlike settings). Hate being wired. I have a good pc and network. Visual quality and latency are perfect. They are perfect for wireless connection to the pc. I've started in VR since the beginning, and yes sure your expectations were too high for sure. What we have now available is awesome.
I think duderino needs a little perspective here. The Quest 3 is a $500 device. What it delivers is nothing short of an incredible value. I'm not impressed with his evaluation skills. After he thoroughly enjoyed Half Life: Alex, he did not go back to emphasize that his prior complaints were not limitations of the Quest.
Virtual desktop and a WiFi6e router is all you need for your use case to get the best video quality without finicking too much. Maybe a BoboVR S3 Pro strap too in order to truly wear it comfortable - you get extra battery life and a cooling fan that blows fresh air onto your eyes. Also I recommend the AMVR facial interface, much better when your face gets sweaty.
I play games at 1440p ultrawide and the Quest 3 still looks good enough for me. Obviously HL Alex is a cut above, but you must have had some strangely high expectations! Try Rogue Squadron as well, that's a fab cockpit game.
The PrismXR Puppies S1 is a fairly good dedicated router that connects directly to the PC and headset rather than needing an entire extra network, first time I got VR streaming working in a way I was happy with.
I opted for the valve index, and have been quite happy so far. Resolution could be a bit better, but it’s comfortable and works without any kind of connection issues whatsoever
I am no fan of Zuckerburg or Meta (FB), however I'll enthusiastically say the Quest 3 is a step in evolution above the Index. So much so that I've mothballed my Index and removed the lighthouses from my play space. The Index was great in its time, and certainly an improvement over the HTC Vive. However, there were always little technical issues with my Index and I was limited to a specific location to play in. The resolution improvement, portability, and compatibility with PC Steam games made it easy to put away my Index permanently. Beyond that, the continuous stream of improvements to features is very nice. 'Always felt like the Vive and Index were like buying a mousepad. Never any enhancements or updates.
I don't realy understand Dawids issues here... setting up the Quest for PCVR gaming is conveluted yes, but there are a ton of easy Tutorials to set it up... I personally also never had problem with the picture quality quality or anything, my guess would be his expectations where to high for what PCVR is capable of providing today... What would interest me greatly is if he tried other VR-Only games like Alyx or just a bunch of "games with VR capability" I think that could also make a difference in visual quality...
my tip is to get a dedicated wifi 6/6e access point and using the virtual desktop app. it's much less buggy than the quest link app, it's wireless and often performs way better than quest link, especially with steamvr
though, for simracing i'd probably still suggest a displayport wired headset like the psvr2 or the pimax crystal. the quest streams video data in a compressed h264, h265 or av1 video stream over USB or Wi-Fi which is why there's some artifacting, in most games it's not noticeable but simracing games are a lot faster so it's more noticeable
@@MethosOhiodo you know maybe it's possible to reach near 1080p quality via HDMI link feature when using quest 3 like screen for 2D games? it's for trip. maybe in this case picture will be acceptable🤷
If you didn’t like the pcvr experience as much as you hoped for it could come down to oculus’s bad compression quality. I have compared my quest 2 and quest 3 to an old htc Vive. The difference is night and day to say the least. Rendering at native resolution (without out compression) or higher gives a much better experience. That’s at least what I found.
i got snap-in lenses with my prescription for $60 - completely worth the cost. Also - Dirt Rally has VR support, and a few driving games offer views without the steering wheel. Keep at it, you'll discover lots of ways to tweak.
1 get kiwi headstrap 2 get amvr headset cover 3 never give more money to meta than needed 4 use virtual desktop cause its better this is from some that has 4k hours in vr with quest 2, 3 :)
I have the same issue, stuff that is far away looks like grainy and jagged, when you get closer it looks better. I think its artifacts because meta doesnt use dp, even though they could
I’ve been playing VR since 2018 with my friends HTC VIVE, and from that moment on I was hooked. There are so many fun experiences and n VR, buuuut… there just isn’t enough. I truly love VR, and I have so many hours in PavlovVR, Minecraft VR, Modded Skyrim VR etc…
I'd be interested in hearing more of what you have to say. I started with a Vive in 2018 myself. Moved to an Index. Now on the Quest. My biggest disappointment is how long its taken to get to the point we're at now. I don't think it should have taken 7 or 8 years.
Try out Contractor’s Showdown. It has a pretty good progression system and fun gameplay loop. It’s tiding me over while I wait for more games to come out.
At the 7:00 mark, and thinking to myself how bad an idea it is making a racing game your first real PCVR experience. For anyone else new to VR, racing games are basically the worst place to start. You will get sick. It will turn you off of VR. You need to get your VR legs first.
My favourite things in VR is Projects Cars 2, Elite Dangerous and Microsoft Flight sim. I have been flying in Elite in VR since 2016 when I was a first wave recipient of the HTC Vive. Fun fact, that rig from 2016 still runs with the vive, we use it for work out stuff now when its too cold. hehe. old stuff like beat saber, space pirate trainer, synth riders etc. Another fun fact, the Vive, despite its resolution and its weight, I still find enjoyable to use, its also extraordinarily reliable. That system has been running for as long as it has, and i've never had to fuss with it or reinstall windows because i couldn't get something in VR to work right. Setting up the Vive took 10 minutes and its been flawless for almost 10 years. My other headsets though, that i use on more powerful machines, yeah they've been a little fiddly but I've got it down to a pretty good science by now :) Best of luck with your VR endeavors Dawid!
Project cars 2 looks pretty good in VR compared to AC. I have an original rift and for some games I prefer it to my quest 3 lol, the tracking is so much better for games like beat saber (4 base stations). It's also a light headset because it doesn't need extra hardware onboard.
Had to scroll too far to find this group. PC2 in VR is still incredible. Haven't fired it up since I recently upgraded from a 2080 to a 6950XT but I'm looking forward to getting back in. I'd mention Star Wars Squadrons as the one I really like that you guys missed.
I'd also add the mandatory H3 VR for people who are interested in guns, blade and sorcery (get the outer rim mod) and a wildcard in the form of no man's sky. NMS still runs terribly in VR for me (xtx) but it gives such a great sense of scale and it is a full game
You know someone really doesnt know anything about VR when he buy Razer straps or vr cables but never think about the game changer that is Virtual Desktop
Tbh link cable heavily decreases latency which is pretty good in some games and if your router sucks This said, Oculus killer is also needed to skip the horrendous Oculus interface
I'm a fan of his content but I'm not sure what's going on in his head... a quick 30 second google search would reveal that quest link is trash. But no... he buys 10 different cables.
@@MacchiDola realistically, the Meta Quest Link app should not be nearly as awful as it is. it's honestly an embarrassment how poorly the headset works with SteamVR and PCVR in general. Virtual Desktop works, but I've had issues getting it to look as good as Quest Link with a 5ghz dedicated router. not sure what I'm doing wrong
I like how the switch is classed as a games console but not the quest 3 yes it's not a conventional one but i am willing to die on the hill saying it is since it's mainly used for gaming
Hi David. This is exactly what happens. And what almost nobody talks about or covers is that you have to install BOTH the Meta Quest Link software for Windows, where you can adjust the Resolution of the Quest 3 and the Refresh rate BUT you ALSO have to open up the HIDDEN "Oculus Debug Tool" and then further tweak cryptic, settings that aren't even well documented or explained to further increase the Video Codec, Bitrate and other graphical enhancements.
When I first tried VR with a Pico 4, I had the same reaction as you, everything seems pixelated and low quality, then I go on youtube to see reviews, everyone is praising it. And I tried all the recommended settings. Thanks for confirming that i`m not crazy with this review.
6:57 holy sheet did dawid just heel toe on a downshift? I have truly NEVER seen another tech youtuber even know what heel toe is. This is how I was taught to drive 42 years ago and been doing it ever since. Nice!
@@kael13 He's from Namibia originally... Close to South Africa, and a lot of ex-pat Germans live there. Accent is due to him growing up with different languages - English, maybe Afrikaans, possibly German or Dutch as well.
As someone who recently got in VR with the Quest 3 for PCVR, I can echo a few points others have said. Rather than the link cable, if you can get at least a Wifi6 router try Virtual Desktop. I got a used tri-band wifi 6 router for pretty cheap so one 5ghz channel is dedicated to the headset and I can play wirelessly from a PC and router not even in the same room flawlessly. I use a 1440p ultrawide and have had few complaints on visual clarity thus far, especially considering my PC is on a different floor entirely. I also went the Bobovr S3 headstrap and it is a massive difference. Went from barely being able to play for 30 minutes in a more intensive game due to face pressure to a couple hours consistently.
Jaggies are definitely more apparant in VR. Often requires absurd levels of scaling to get past necessitating a 4090, or you find a game with acceptable-ish DLAA or TAA.
Right. Most of what he complains about in the video are Quest 3 limitations. He's coming from high end PC gaming and bought the economy car of VR gaming and then was bothered that it performs like an economy car. All the way through the video I was thinking he'd be having a much better experience in a high end PCVR headset like the Bigscreen Beyond.
Your seat mounts are still on backwards on your rig. High end goes to the front and low end at the rear. So it give you the adjustability to recline the seat back and forward. And of course you'll be much more comfortable.
Somebody a little spoiled by 4K gaming. Never experienced quest so can’t say. Only have vive, But please you got to try flight sim. War thunder, DCS or IL2 before you tank officially on vr
I’ve only had a pc for a couple months and I bought a quest 3 about a month ago and using virtual desktop gave me 0 issues to play pcvr games with high graphics and no lagging or stuttering or any setup issues, it’s just launch the app-choose pc-play
I get so jealous when I see comments like this. People seems so happy about VD. But I always have problems with VD and never get it to work. Airlink works flawless, but VD is just a mess for me....
@@kjvirtualmotorsports you can't use the link cable with VD although it's a best way to connect your headset via Wi-Fi and it's WAY better than default Oculus-Meta software
Dude, I gotta hand it to you. You're the only youtuber who ever makes me giggle within the video's first few seconds. "Despite being a tech youtuber since the Ottomans ruled Cairo..." lol XD
You can get higher visual fidelity without artiofacts at not a ridiculously high bitrate if you have eye tracking on your headset like the quest pro, using eye tracked foviated encoding. But all in all, I wish they just had DisplayPort over usb connectivity to skip all that bullshit.
The Quest 3 is literally the best headset. Good enough display, best versatility, best cordless experience, most content either locally or streamed wireless. If you think it gets better by buying a headset that costs 8x as much you're gonna be in for a bad time.
Yes, it quite literally get's better buying a headset that costs 8x as much. Do you need that tho, no. This is all subjective and all down to the user and their needs. But EVERYONE who has compared the quality of the quest vs vision pro always picks the quest and says the cameras and display are night and day on the vision pro. Should people buy the vision pro, not really.
So for PCVR I use my Valve index, sure it's not the same quality as the Quest 3, but it just works. You need a good router with Virtual Desktop to get decent PCVR and it still won't be a wired experience. There are also options to keep the cable out of the way.
What really astonishes me is that, like you said, it's a big ass pain to setup vr and actually have it run well. As others have said, the picture quality is because of OL Codec, I saw you did set the Bitrate to Max without dynamic settings, which is a best practice. But I'd suggest: 1. Get VD and (if your gpu is recent) use 10bit AV1 codec for best picture quality. Also, depending on GPU (a 4090 is enough for it) try to use 120hz when you're using a dedicated AP with wifi 6. Also make sure that upscaling isn't enabled in steam vr and leave resolution to the standard aswell. You won't really need upscaling when using AV1 10Bit. 2. Get a wifi 6 AP or router (unifi AP 6 Pro for big spenders and slate ax wifi 6 for relatively budget option). You also need to choose how you want to stream. You can if possible just uplink the AP or router and use it like that but if LAN isn't an option for you you can still use the slate ax as an AP and uplink it to the pc. You won't have internet on the quest OS but you can switch networks when you need internet. The slate ax works very well in that case (tested it myself) but I did end up getting the unifi ap 6 pro and using cable channels on the wall to uplink it and my pc via Lan 3. When using wifi for streaming it's imperative that the wifi isn't congested apps like wifi analyzer can check your wifi coverage, usage of channels and so on. You need to use a free wifi channel, maybe if possible use DFS channels (if you're not close to an airport since they use these frequencies) as they are rarely used. It's also important to stick to the ap being only for VR. You can create a separate SSID network just for VR and just used by the AP in question to have no network traffic other than VR 4. The strap you got is a good choice, I'd however suggest to get a aftermarket elite strap for about 20 euros since the quest elite strap is way overpriced. Also suggest to get face covers with leather to be able to resell it if needed since the stock fabric face interface gets smelly fast, it'll also inflame your face if your skin is sensitive. I got a plastic replica of the quest face interface with velcro leather pads and it also was around 20 Euros. My stock face interface setting dial for the distance from display to face also broke 1st day (on one side) and it also seems to be very finicky. The aftermarket one doesn't have a setting, it's straight up the closest to your face as you can get (which is important to maximize FOV) 5. As for games, try bone works or bonelab, it's the best vr game out there. Other sword fighting games also work well in vr.
The first time I played Half Life: Alyx, i spent about 12 hours just gawping at the random details before even playing the game, it really is mindblowing imo :)
the thing about VR is that everything that is build for VR has to be twice as powerful as it need to be ran on the left and the right eye. if your video is 4k on your monitor/tv, it's 2k in your headset. Also it doesn't look like it's 2k because of the POV. it's like more zoomed in so you notice a lot of the imperfections
I have had a Quest 3 for 5 months. Previously owned a Quest 2. I use it for flight sims (DCS). I have never had a connectivity problem with my Quest 3 and my PC. I use a KIWI cable and a KIWI head strap. Everythig works as it should. You shoukd try a flight sim. The graphics for me are pretty darn good for the price. If you have twice the money try the new Pimax crsytal. It has better lenses and connects directly to the video card.
Dawid, check out the reshade and lighting mods for Assetto Corsa. I bought it on a whim and my friends suggested a bunch of them to me and they genuinely make the game look like a modern Forza game if you combine the right ones. I love cruising in the rain in Japan in a Lamborghini Huracan!
Shooters are actually my favorite thing in VR. With the VR controllers you hold and aim the gun yourself, on a PC you're just clicking heads. Not that the latter isn't fun at all but it's really hard to go back once you've experienced it.
I've been playing and making VR content for a couple of years now, and you tend to just get used to how things look in VR. Just be glad you didn't start on a quest 2, it's not a bad headset by any means, but your complaints about the 3 would have been magnified by the lenses the quest 2 uses. I'm almost 50 years old, and the promise of VR that was fed to me as a child is finally here and it's pretty damn good right now for what it is.
If you're on Meta I second what Mole said (even compared to the official elite strap). Used to go months without using my headset because it felt like an actual torture device. Tried a third part strap and almost forgot I was wearing a headset. I was using a bootleg Kiwi elite strap for the Q2 (Just buy the real Kiwi, it's only $25) but some people say the Bobo pro/plus is better
Haven't seen any of your vids pop up on my homepage in ages Dawid. First thing that stood out to me was the hair - love it! Looks great on you. And now I have months of videos to binge :D
I think a lot of it is just a rendering and general optics issue. you have a flat screen that you now warp through a lense to stretch over your whole vision, so the pixel density in the middle is just higher because less stretching. you can compensate to a degree, but the problem itself will always be there. Same with the contrast ratio. you have a very small display not allowing for 10 million different lighting zones, so the only real solution is pretty much OLED.
U didnt play any quest 3 enhanced games so of course u didnt see how clear it can be If u want the clarity of the pancake lenses everybody is talking about, play walking dead saints and sinners, asgards wrath 2 and red matter 2.

I LOVE my Quest 3 for PCVR. In the past I've used Virtual Desktop as many have recommended, but nowadays I'm a much more casual VR gamer, so I'm OK with just Airlink. I actually find Beatsaber to be the cream of the VR crop, although it does have some tracking issues on quest 3 that aren't on my Index. Skyrim VR with lots of mods is also AMAZING! You can get rid of the floating hands and you get a full body, full physics interactions, etc. And with no wires!
@@c4ptainmerc I spent two weeks on the video. Like I said in the video, it’s not that I thought the headset was bad. VR is just a huge pain to get setup to a point where it looks good.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff My apologies. It's a fun video. But regardless of what you said, the overall tone and feeling that I personally got (as a viewer) from this video is that the Q3 is not worthwhile. I do agree with you, that it can be a pain to get up and running optimally. But once correctly setup, there is just no experience like it.
stationary vr is definitely where its at. try some flight sims with it. I was super excited for Star Wars Squadrons (before ea shat the launch and abandoned it) to get to try it with vr. Roomie had a Vive so I was able to have a pretty awesome experience space dogfighting with it. being able to freely look around the cockpit as youre flying is wild
This video should be called, "How to do everything wrong with your brand new VR headset" Every mistake you made was a simple google or youtube search away, and that's why your experience was so poor.
If you want to play Assetto Corsa at its best, let alone trying to play it in VR, you MUST have Content Manager, Custom Shaders Patch, and good track mods or just the stock tracks. I'd also highly recommend getting Pure. These will completely transform your Assetto Corsa experience from a very disappointing one to one that makes you want to drive for hours straight.
Thank you for the video, as I wanted to play VR on PC for some time and considered the quest as an option. I've heard issues about the compression of quest 3 either via airlink or USB but your video really swayed me from buying one. Since I have the PSVR2 already I will wait for adapter which should come out in 2 months. The big benefits are 1) already have the headset so I will just need a 60$ adapter (still cheaper than the official 80usd quest link cable) 2) the adapter gets the video input via DisplayPort 1.4 so no horrible compression there.
believe me, you won't regret not buying a quest 3. the price is similar a bit higher than a psvr2, but the cost will add up very crazy if you want a really comfortable experience wearing it( headstrap suck, batterly life suck, even when you connect the link cable, it won't charge the battery for the quest 3 so your battery will eventually die while playing pcvr, battery pack, power bank. blah blah blah).
@@freyalunar3633 Thanks for the info, as it seems, quest headsets are mostly aimed as standalone VR headsets first, PC connection is just a poorly executed afterthought. And while you could say PSVR2 PC capability is also an afterthought (which it is). It's not a standalone VR headset, and it connects to to a console (console in the couple last gens are basically a custom PC), so thigs like battery draining on the headset or video compression are not an issue. I hope that some features that are omitted from PSVR2 on PC will return in future updates, but it seems they would need a software support from game developers to happen.
Getting those prescription inserts was a really good first step. Afterwards getting a strap from a company that actually knows what VR is (ie not Razer!) is a must. Finally as per what everyone else is saying getting a dedicated 5ghz WiFi 6 or 6e router (there was even 50 dollar routers which are perfect for this) and finally try pretty much any other wireless VR program! (virtual desktop being the most well known)
starting from the Oculus CV1 and PSVR1, and slowly making my way up to the Meta Quest 3, it’s difficult to hear all the hate for the graphical fidelity especially when the Meta Quest 3’s dashboard is very premium and not at all a low quality experience in comparison to really any other UI experience besides probably the Apple Vision Pro. Also, even if you’re only planning to use the MQ3 in conjunction with your PC, this is a one of the (if not THE) best options. If you get the Bigscreen Beyond , it’s going to look and fit better, but then you’re stuck to a cable and need to set up external trackers and a pulley system for your cable. Considering one of the biggest obstacles with VR is the setup experience (like how long it takes to get in-game every time you want to play), the MQ3 is undoubtedly the best experience.
One of the most Amazing VR Experiences... Elite Dangerous. If you enjoyed the easy plug and play setup your VR to your PC Experience, you will love learning to play Elite Dangerous. (I am exaggerating, Elite Dangerous isn't that hard to learn but it certainly has a solid learning curve...) My first experience was with the per-consumer device, the Oculus DK2... I dropped VR after that. But it gave me an idea of it's potential... and even then, Elite was Epic.
1:55 wow! this is unexpected, how do you like your LS50 Wireless? very close to pulling the trigger on a pair of LS50 Meta myself) also, what are those stands? the way they angle the speakers is super cool
not sure what specific stands he has but isoacoustics stands would give you a similar look. If you are planning on getting the ls50s maybe look into getting a minidsp and a good sub as well. I have a pair of R3 metas which benefit greatly from sub integration and dirac with the minidsp along with proper placement, especially on speakers with good directivity like kefs.
I recommend the prescription lens adapters HonsVR makes, they are cheaper than Zenni and the quality is good. And they're magnetic, so they can easily be removed to let somebody else use the headset. I can't use VR with my glasses on, they're just too wide because I have a wide head, and they don't really fit in any VR headset. They just end up pressing uncomfortably on my face no matter what.
Was just about to suggest some of these. Heard the compression Meta uses is bad and fixed via Steam from other VR content creators.
Exactly
We all know why Dawid got VR. It's to finally be with his Waifu in the Metaverse.
Isn’t he already with his waifu in real life?
@supershadic530 Yeah. I'm just joking about how he always has his waifu PC content. Shoot. It was in his ad for the fans. Lol
Na it's more than that wink wink.
-summer lesson- VR Kanojo is waiting
You're close but it was Ana who wanted to be with her meta verse waifu
if you wanted to play assetto corsa,
then I would recommend that you download content manager/Custom Shaders Patch, Pure or sol and RainFX
This makes the experience much better
Prescription inserts for my VR headset made a world of difference.
You did vr dirty by buying the Razer strap LOL
Yeah someone gave him some bad advice on that one lol.
14:09 drawing pipi is a classic move for first time VR experience
Do it in every game that lets me 😂
Oh great, now Anna won't see Dawid's upper face for the rest of her life
Don't get her hopes up
Is that a bug or feature?
And when he catches COVID, she won't see his lower half as well.
@@likemetoo2hahaha
@@likemetoo2 So that’s why she was so keen on me trying VR.
Can you not use custom shaders patch and pp filters in VR? They make it look like a completely different game
@@wohnie39 You can. Not sure why he didn't try Nordschleife or Spa with some natural looking pp-filter.
BoboVR strap is my choice. The battery packs help balance the weight.
I think Dawid's access to high end 4k monitors hurts his VR experience.
Bobovr is the most comfortable imo
The BoboVR gives me headaches.
Its all about perspective. I came to a Quest 3 from an HTC Vive. The difference between the two is night and day!
Same here, after q3 Vive seems ancient
Wait till you go from a q3 to vive pro 2
It looks the same and works reliably all the time
Your comment could have been mine, word for word (had all those headsets :) )
I've pretty much stopped using cables, the wireless link just seems so much better and so much more freeing :)
@@Atropos148How's the latency?
virtual desktop and run automobilsta 2 with correct settings and it looks great. Used wired to. Virtual desktop is a must.
Absolutely this, best VR implementation of any racing game!
@darrcook1 Yes regarding Alyx . That fact was strange to me, too.
Something I’ve come to learn about vr is that it’s less about the graphics as it is how well the game play pulls you in.
Right? If you are Pixel peeping you're going to have a bad time
Virtual desktop and a WiFi6e router is all you need for your use case to get the best video quality without finicking too much.
Sticking your finger in the fan 😂😂😂
just picked up a quest 2 for $200. Decent VR is finally available to the plebs.
If I had no sense of money I still wouldn't waste my money on an apple product 😂
0:38 I've actually found a solid airflow to the face while using VR very helpful at keeping nausea away. Mainly while playing DCS or Overload
I am so confused why you have the gear shifter on the left but you play with a lhd car
Me too :)))
if he would be British I would understand...
Gotta try the various AR displays out there. Especially the Viture....
Did you increase bitrate in the quest debug program? People suggest 750-950. You can't type it in raw so you have to copy paste the numbers yourself.
This. I have no idea why Meta chose to set the bitrate so damned low as default. It really does make a difference.
Max to type in is 500 but do you actually see any difference then you go higher?
He did this in the video
@@lexd0g When budget and otherwise versatility are not concerns, it's quite difficult to argue that the Pimax won't thoroughly deliver.
I agree 1000% with this. Don't even bother with the cable link for Quest 3. Get Virtual desktop and a good router or access point.
David does WR Stuff
😂 I see what you did there
i got snap-in lenses with my prescription for $60 - completely worth the cost. Also - Dirt Rally has VR support, and a few driving games offer views without the steering wheel. Keep at it, you'll discover lots of ways to tweak.
1 get kiwi headstrap
2 get amvr headset cover
3 never give more money to meta than needed
4 use virtual desktop cause its better
this is from some that has 4k hours in vr with quest 2, 3 :)
If you want to play a vr game that is like fallout or stalker i would recommend trying into the radius.
I have the same issue, stuff that is far away looks like grainy and jagged, when you get closer it looks better. I think its artifacts because meta doesnt use dp, even though they could
Oh wow, lucky you! First VR Experience playing racing game and not a single mention of dizziness!
I was about to suggest Elite Dangerous, that game is equal parts breathtaking and terrifying in VR!
Project cars 2 looks pretty good in VR compared to AC. I have an original rift and for some games I prefer it to my quest 3 lol, the tracking is so much better for games like beat saber (4 base stations). It's also a light headset because it doesn't need extra hardware onboard.
PC2, DR2.0, and Elite Dangerous are literally the only reason I'm getting VR
Had to scroll too far to find this group. PC2 in VR is still incredible. Haven't fired it up since I recently upgraded from a 2080 to a 6950XT but I'm looking forward to getting back in.
I'd mention Star Wars Squadrons as the one I really like that you guys missed.
I'd also add the mandatory H3 VR for people who are interested in guns, blade and sorcery (get the outer rim mod) and a wildcard in the form of no man's sky. NMS still runs terribly in VR for me (xtx) but it gives such a great sense of scale and it is a full game
I hope first time VR users seek out videos from actual VR RUclipsrs and not base their decision solely on this video.
It is a little bit of a bummer to have somebody who is a tech RUclipsr be so completely green
You know someone really doesnt know anything about VR when he buy Razer straps or vr cables but never think about the game changer that is Virtual Desktop
Bro is such a cry baby lol
Tbh link cable heavily decreases latency which is pretty good in some games and if your router sucks
This said, Oculus killer is also needed to skip the horrendous Oculus interface
Virtual desktop & an actually good strap would’ve helped him immensely lmfao
I'm a fan of his content but I'm not sure what's going on in his head... a quick 30 second google search would reveal that quest link is trash. But no... he buys 10 different cables.
@@MacchiDola realistically, the Meta Quest Link app should not be nearly as awful as it is. it's honestly an embarrassment how poorly the headset works with SteamVR and PCVR in general. Honestly ive never had an issue with the link cable.
In my opinion half life alyx is the best vr game looks wise money can buy at the moment.
I like how the switch is classed as a games console but not the quest 3 yes it's not a conventional one but i am willing to die on the hill saying it is since it's mainly used for gaming
1:50 what speakers are those? they look super unique.

That’s why there are more pleasant applications like Steamlink and Virtual Desktop.
the meta isn't particularly interested in pcvr
@spaghebbiohe never showed it he messed with settings in the meta app itself. As that made the biggest difference for me.
When I first tried VR with a Pico 4, I had the same reaction as you, everything seems pixelated and low quality, then I go on youtube to see reviews, everyone is praising it.
And I tried all the recommended settings.
Thanks for confirming that i`m not crazy with this review.
Dawid, don't forget the IPD slider on the bottom of the headset.

Man the first time I tried a VR I thought the same thing. “I’ll give it a shot without my glasses”. I couldn’t see a damn thing 😂😂
The vibrating cod piece gave me a good laugh.
I highly suggest the bigscreen beyond, its essentially the next gen of vr on pc. (its expensive as hell though)
Video suggestion - try Rift S or Quest 1 after Quest 3.
You cant see jaggies when theres not enough pixels :D
Your seat mounts are still on backwards on your rig. High end goes to the front and low end at the rear. So it give you the adjustability to recline the seat back and forward. And of course you'll be much more comfortable.
Somebody a little spoiled by 4K gaming. Never experienced quest so can’t say. Only have vive,
But please you got to try flight sim. War thunder, DCS or IL2 before you tank officially on vr

Virtual desktop and a WiFi 6 router makes it the perfect pc vr headset. Fully wireless with close to no latency.
So for PCVR I use my Valve index, sure it's not the same quality as the Quest 3, but it just works.
You need a good router with Virtual Desktop to get decent PCVR and it still won't be a wired experience.
There are also options to keep the cable out of the way.
i have a quest 2 now and ive never had any issues with the resolution considering my first headset was the original vive 😂
Same here, even the quest 1 over airlink is worlds better than the OG vive.
What really astonishes me is that, like you said, it's a big ass pain to setup vr and actually have it run well. As others have said, the picture quality is because of OL Codec, I saw you did set the Bitrate to Max without dynamic settings, which is a best practice. But I'd suggest:
The slate ax works very well in that case (tested it myself) but I did end up getting the unifi ap 6 pro and using cable channels on the wall to uplink it and my pc via Lan
3. You can create a separate SSID network just for VR and just used by the AP in question to have no network traffic other than VR
4. The aftermarket one doesn't have a setting, it's straight up the closest to your face as you can get (which is important to maximize FOV)
5. As for games, try bone works or bonelab, it's the best vr game out there. Other sword fighting games also work well in vr.
'Dawid Does Disappointment'...that's what I'm calling it from now on!

Reminded me about me installing a heck of the mods on Skyrim VR in order to make it playable and ending up not playing it at all
the thing about VR is that everything that is build for VR has to be twice as powerful as it need to be ran on the left and the right eye. if your video is 4k on your monitor/tv, it's 2k in your headset. Also it doesn't look like it's 2k because of the POV. it's like more zoomed in so you notice a lot of the imperfections
You need to play Flight Simulator 2020 in VR mode for a real holy crap moment
This is it. Stop messing around with race sims in VR with a Quest. MSFS is the benchmark.
Also you need rtx 4090 to run it on somewhat high setting lol.
Dawid!!!! why didnt you release this video 2 weeks ago, Before I bought my first vr headset!!! I encountered the exact same issue as you're having.
have you tried screen mod? maybe quality is not so bad in this case and more near 1080p?
Are you turning into a sim racing topic creator? Sweet. I love this
The PSVR2 doohicky for PC is released in the mean-time, but it doesn't do HDR, haptics, and a couple of other things.
Whats the point than
Have you tried AV1 encoding as it can be a bitrate issue.
Definitely a case of someone going into VR with unreal expectations.
I haven't been able to use my VR headset. Feels like its tryna crush my skull, just to get it clear.
Metas default headstraps are awful. Third party one's tend to be necessary rather than optional.
Dave shifts with the wrong hand lol.
Indeed
RHD
@@some-replies yes, I've been driving 25 yrs I know it's rhd lol. It's usually the joke between colonial UK countries and 99% of the world haha.
U didnt play any quest 3 enhanced games so of course u didnt see how clear it can be
If u want the clarity of the pancake lenses everybody is talking about, play walking dead saints and sinners, asgards wrath 2 and red matter 2.
Why is the gear lever on your left?
For a right hand drive setup. (The game shows a left hand drive though).
Maybe it was designed for left-hand-side(of the road) drive countries like UK?
@@shwat_4 he is Canadian they drive on the right side and this is a rig, you can pretty much set it up however you like. So why did he chose lever on the left.
@@Ismaak5 I dunno then
Man, you really don't know what you're talking about. Also, BoboVR M3!!!!!
I know it's just your opinion as a new VR user, but so much about this video is just plain misleading for none VR viewers.
Sounds more like a you issue tbh.
I got a Quest 3 a few weeks ago and think the same. I don't have barely any problems at all. It's a decent VR headset.
seems like he was just rushing to make this video, rather than looking into how to optimize the Q3 PCVR experience
What's the best vr headset for pc?
5:56 those r completely random jokes that i can't see coming 😂😂😂
The big benefits are
1) already have the headset so I will just need a 60$ adapter (still cheaper than the official 80usd quest link cable)
2) the adapter gets the video input via DisplayPort 1.4 so no horrible compression there.
believe me, you won't regret not buying a quest 3. the price is similar a bit higher than a psvr2, but the cost will add up very crazy if you want a really comfortable experience wearing it( headstrap suck, batterly life suck, even when you connect the link cable, it won't charge the battery for the quest 3 so your battery will eventually die while playing pcvr, battery pack, power bank. blah blah blah).
Considering one of the biggest obstacles with VR is the setup experience (like how long it takes to get in-game every time you want to play), the MQ3 is undoubtedly the best experience.
you do know that the black face plate has 4 different setting to allow space for glasses ?
One of the most Amazing VR Experiences... Elite Dangerous.
If you enjoyed the easy plug and play setup your VR to your PC Experience, you will love learning to play Elite Dangerous.
(I am exaggerating, Elite Dangerous isn't that hard to learn but it certainly has a solid learning curve...)
My first experience was with the per-consumer device, the Oculus DK2... I dropped VR after that. But it gave me an idea of it's potential... and even then, Elite was Epic.
1:55 wow! this is unexpected, how do you like your LS50 Wireless? very close to pulling the trigger on a pair of LS50 Meta myself)
also, what are those stands? the way they angle the speakers is super cool
not sure what specific stands he has but isoacoustics stands would give you a similar look.
