Fake news people! This Video does not show his "Hot" serve. Instead, this highlights his "get it in" serve, similar to a 2nd serve in tennis. It is 100% legal and satisfies all 4 components of a legal pickleball serve. However, the shown vid does not reflect his heavy, hard top spin pressure serve! I respect and really think Tyson is a fantastic person who works hard to grow both his brand and the sport of Pickleball. However the reality is, he's been getting away (is not the only one) with breaking one of the 4 serve rules in pickleball. When you analyze his real serve, not the one shown in this video,...: #1. Is it underhand? YES. #2. Is he using an upward motion, YES. #3. Is he contacting the ball below his Navel/waist? Most of the time so we will give him the benefit of the doubt and say, YES. #4 Does he keep the top far edge of his paddle below the wrist-bend at contact. NO NO and NO. It is so fast and hard to see but when you slow it down, it's evident he doesn't do that all the time. He is both lifting and rotating his paddle upward to create that heave spin. Again in this video, he performs it legally. However, when he goes to his "HOT serve" he does not. They should either change the rule or enforce it. During Tyson's r\"Hot serve" he stands almost parallel to the end line, but that's not shown here. Typical of @thekithenpickleball to not do their homework and just try to gain clicks.
Tyson is a great player. In my opinion he's one of the best at pushing the limit of keeping the paddle edge below the wrist. He has a lot of pre serve motion that makes it hard to see the actual orientation at the moment of contact. Nothing wrong with using all of the motion allowed by the rules.
Dude dropped the ball from his shoulders. I’m new to this game and was taught you can’t hold the ball or hit the ball above the naval. As far as I’m aware, ILLEGAL SERVE
As long as the paddle makes contact with the ball below the navel, which it does here, it's a legal serve. You can drop the ball from shoulder height if you like.
@@gaspassman People are literally redoing tennis courts as pickleball courts my guy. There are entire companies dedicated to converting them and tennis players are furious. If I could drop links here I would send you a library.
He makes contact with the ball above his navel often (bending his knees doesn’t change this fact) as well as the paddle head is *sometimes* above his wrist. Either of these makes it illegal. Why not just have a legal (hard) serve
Just as impressive as a 140mph Isner ace. Thank you for slowing it down. The human eye can't discern pro pickleball serve speed in real time. #bridgeforsale
Does not show point of contact and paddle head position in relationship to wrist. Wrong camera angle. This is but one of many swings…, others swings not replicated during competition. In my opinion, while this possibly could be ok in respect to paddle head and wrist location at contact, many other serves may not. (Again, wrong camera angle). In this video angle one can argue that paddle head is equal or just shy of wrist at contact. So while this one serve my be legal in game play, many others may not be legal. What other serving motion is the rule written? There are none.
So, three choices. 1. Disallow the top spin motion in this type serve. 2. Rewrite the rules of service to allow this serve without need of slow motion camera. 3. Slow motion camera review after every point on every serve. (This would ruin game play IMO)
Even with a Killer Serve there's more Side Outs than Points Served by around a Third. An example is when the score is 9-6-2 for instance, that'll be 15 Points but usually with 21 Side Outs. Perhaps just flipping how Points are Scores to the Receiver wound make for a quicker Game (Server(s) only have to Win One Serve but still not get a Point)
@@Mrvolpone91 Except he obviously knew this was going to be filmed and dissected in slow motion, so he was careful to serve legally. His actual serve in tournaments is far closer, and often beyond the edge of what the rules allow.
This is not a good service motion & not sure why he uses it. He’s falling to the side; not using his legs well; doesn’t load properly; short backswing. He could have the best serve in the game if he worked on his biomechanics

The slow motion sweat drop 2 seconds in is the best part about it lmao
Wow, no way us “regular” folks can do that legendary serve. I guess I need to train for a few more years.

Next time, show one in slo-mo from a tournament. Pretty good chance you'll get an illegal serve.

Wow thanks! Very informative
It's a difficult rule to enforce which is why they don't but I agree with you the rule needs to be changed.
What paddle?
Selkirk Labs Project 002 here. He later played w a Power Air Invikta before leaving Selkirk for Joola
just a regular swing
Is the load pushoff more from the back leg or front leg? Looks like the back foot comes up off the ground at the end?
He’s driving with the slight torso turn and hip rotation, it’s not exactly like tennis

Amazing 😊
Is that serve still legal in the 2024 Rules?
Not by 2024 PPA rules (ball release is above the waist) but it was back when this vid was taken. He hasn’t played w a Selkirk Labs 002 paddle in 2 yrs
Haha I was serving from that same court just today! The Picklr in Davis County Utah
But was it this legendary?
im a beginner in pickleball but my coach told me i have to hit it below the waist. i dont think i hit it below the waist?!
WTF is this serve so legendary? It’s the serve that poor servers sometimes use in tennis!

Tf was so legendary about this?
It just a regular topspin forehand with very little pace. What’s legendary about that? An actual tennis player will return that serve for a winner.
It seems like he’s tossing the ball upwards. Isn’t that illegal? Maybe I’m missing something 🙄
Wow, that was legal….. probably because he knew it was going to be shown in slow motion.
i was thinking the same thing 😂😂
pickleball racket custom, which can be UV printed with your own brand and slogan on it
Thought you’re not allowed to toss the ball up
That's only on a bounce serve
He didn’t toss it upward, you need to pay attention
That rule is only for PPA and was implemented for 2024. This is an older vid if Tyson is still playing w a Selkirk Labs 002
If pickleball keeps its momentum going all these top players are going to slowly get exposed by new talented innovative players only time will tell
in tennis we have a name for this shot. It’s called a forehand

No PED testing in this little game...yet.
Lots of drive up on the ball from his legs lifting through the serve.

Quite the opposite. Waist level is where your naval is. This is clearly below that.
