  • This is just a quick mid holiday season update on the refitting of Alumina and the nightmare fuel tank leak on my flats boat. I am also asking for a bit of help finding a place to work on the fuel tank.

Alumina progress looks good. Wish I knew a shop that could help with the tank. I'd have your next tank epoxy coated on the outside.

Old boat, old tank, best thing to do is either remove the tank, clean out the bilge, coat the bilge, replace the old tank with one that will fit and suits the size you need,or pull out the old tank, clean bilge and coat it,put center console back and use an external tank, with that said it cannot be to large of a tank because it will not be in the center of gravity like the old tank,if you going to replace the inboard tank replace all the hoses and whatever connections you have on it,should out last you.

Could you perhaps just empty the tank leave it there and run your boat on an external 25 litre tank. You could perhaps fit one in one of storage areas at the back of the boat vs such a huge expense. Enjoy your channel greetings Pierre

Look into a fuel bladder? There's a product called sealall that's meant for fuel tanks. Good luck, if l was there I'd help you but Ontario Canada is a bit of a poke. Eh!

Metal tanks always give problems from leaks to condensation as well as collecting dirt in fuel ...drain the tank wash it and foam fill it then install the correct un plastic tanks with plastic picups
Instead of lamenting ply for hatches and decks try use fiberglass sheets its way lighter more durable and does not rot

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  6 месяцев назад +1

I was considering the laminated foam sheet option...it just seem like the best option...but a lot more work and time. And this time of year getting resin so set is difficult.

I'm not sure i would use that old tank anymore and probably wouldn't disconnect all the wiring. Just clean it out and try hook up another tank some way.

  • @thegoods2240

Did you actually find the leak? Every time I've heard of a situation like this it turned out to be a fitting on the tank, and not the tank itself. Maybe it doesn't need to be pulled. Maybe an auto mechanic shop has a way to test it to find the leak?

This. I would definitely leak test it with some green dye

What if you cut out the top of the tank leave sides and bottom an install a poly gas tank inside the old tank.

No need to sand the minwax...just let it dry for an hour or more.

Is there any benefit, in leaving the tank there, HOWEVER, cut the top of it off, leaving just a box where you could then insert a plastic tank, and use the rest for long term storage. You would obviously need to make your console easy to open, and pivot back and stay like an engine hood? I’m only going by what I can see from the video. Perhaps I do not see it properly.

@EngineeredAngler, Maybe hook an airhose from compressor and see if you hear the leak to narrow it down. I had same issue and it turned out to be a fuel line that got a hole worn in it.

Thought this was a lure making channel so why be gone for 3 weeks then when you return we get one of the shortest video not about building lures but fixing a boat
I think if you don’t have a video of lure building then don’t post your boat project just so you can get people to watch to get more money from you tube

You are correct. This is a lure making channel, and one of the best on RUclips! I have learned a great deal watching content on this channel. The boat Franko is attempting to fix and is asking about for help, is indeed one of the vehicles with which he tests his lures, and is quite relevant to the lure making process and the videos he posts for our benefit.
The time off from RUclips was more than earned, and well deserved! Any help Franko can get in return is the least we can do for him. And if Franko get money from RUclips, it didn't cost any of us, and with the time, effort, and materials he invests in this channel he should reap some reward. Thank you for the comment that helps this channel grow!
