Me watching this video even though I’m not learning Greek 🤣 I’m really such a huge fan of the structure and editing of your videos - especially these resources ones! They’re so well-organized and always a pleasure to watch 😊
I'm so sad you've stopped doing videos! i just watched some of your videos by accident and you have some of the BEST advices on resources etc. Not just the same resources everyone else talks about. And your techniques are so good. You're amazing. So happy i found you Tanya :D
Thank you greek is like Japanese and Chinese were it's a completely different alphabet and basically everything is different but at least for those languages there's 20 videos and there in every language learning app it's so hard to find unlike when I learnt French and Spanish so your a life saver 😅
wow, this was a fantastic video! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a resource video this useful, also, I absolutely loved the greek for you book, seems like exactly the way I approach language learning. And I didn’t like closemaster at first, but since you recommended I decided to give it a try and go back to japanese with it and it seems nice after all. Thank you!
That's actually the reason I switched from Greek to Russian many years ago. I highly recommend the movie Politiki Kouzin (name is likely a little off, as I'm going from memory). In English it's titled A Touch of Spice.
this video is a GODSEND!!! to be honest, my initial motivation to learn greek was the song "i won't say i'm in love" from disney's hercules, sung in greek😅 but i'm so happy to now have access to so many resources! i had to fistfight several viruses off of my phone due to shady greek apps. once again, thank you! i wish you all the best in your language learning journey :)
Thank you, your a miracle! @@tbenavente. I was learning japanese, french, sanskrit, and Greek, and because of you, I kinda learnt it. I mostly know 3 of my native languages but want to rise my horizens
I'm considering greek as my first second language to learn, but it feels silly as it seems to difficult. To be honest my initial reason was after I read The secret History, they speak a lot of Latin and Greek history, and I love Greece. I don't feel drawn to french or Spanish, I don't feel myself wanting to go there.
Thank you so much for this informative video. I am learning Greek lile you and the text books you mentioned are really good. I would add to listen to music songs and to cooking shows is also a great opportunity to learn Greek. There is also a Facebook Greek student community where you can exchange a lot about how to learn it! I have started learning Japanese like you and I have to admit is more difficult than Greek. 😂
Hello, I found your channel a few days ago and have already learned a lot of useful and interesting information for myself. I am 12 years old, I live in Russia and I really dream of becoming a polyglot, now I still know English at the B1-B2 level and have started learning Spanish. And I have a few questions. 1)What is your profession? 2) How old are you? ❤🤩🤓
It sounds like you're doing great, especially given how young you still are. Keep up the great work! As for your questions, 1) I currently do RUclips full-time, but all my previous jobs have been in social media marketing 2) I'm an old girlie, turning 30 this October 👵🏻
This is a really great video. I have been learning Greek for about 18 months now and use many of the resources that you have pointed out here. Another good Podcast is the Omilo Podcast, they have some intermediate stories. I have listed to them all many times and am now starting to get the hang of most of them. I am at about A2, trying to get to B1 level and I agree that it's quite hard to find good beginner comprehensible input in Greek. How long have you been learning Greek?
Oh wow! I had no idea Yiuli and Daria had a new podcast. Ευχαριστώ πάρα πολύ!!! I'm surprised you didn't mention Language Transfer as a resource. Anyway, keep up the good work ❤
So it's very much a petty reason, but I've recently become aware of the Language Transfer founder's political views on certain issues, and I don't feel comfortable endorsing him anymore. His courses are free, and I have no issue with people using them, I just won't be the one to recommend them, if it makes sense 🤷♀️
@@tbenavente WHAT?! That sucks, I barely know his name, let alone what his views are. But I completely understand, I've done the same with other businesses.
Thanks sooo much! 💖Also Language Transfer has a Greek course 🙌 but it's for intermediate, not for 100% zero beginners. I really want to study Greek in the future, because my native is Spanish and I like the alphabet and I want a language with easy pronunciation (and...I don't like Italian or Portuguese) and the alphabet is so pretty
Dear Tanya, could you please give me the contact of your Italki-teacher, who uses the book series „Greek for you“? I love these books and would appreciate someone, who supports the pronunciations exercises.😊🎉❤
9 months late but wow this video had everything! I have been wanting to learn a new language to add to my "language-pool" for a while now and greek has always been there, but (apart from learning the abc's) I didn't know where to start or what resources to use!! Thank youuu!!!! ♡ where did you get the greek for you digital versions? I can't seem to be able to find them on their webpage :(
What's the name of the Greek mythology graded books and where can I get them? I'm a huge Greek mythology nerd, and would love to read the myths in Greek :)
Hello, I'm currently learning Greek as well. I recently purchased the electric version of Greek for you but the books will only allow me to study them on their website. How did you download them/ get around this?
Thank you for such a good overview of resources for learning Greek. "Greek for You" is a wonderful textbook. There was no mention of resources to avoid and there is one that beginners shouldn't try: Language Transfer Greek. People studying Greek who are at an intermediate level may find it useful, but it is too difficult for beginners.
Hello, I would like to suscribe to your patreon and get the notion templates and everything but the links does not lead to your page there. Could you maybe update the link please? This video was super useful ! You are amazing, thanks for your hard work 🖤
What app are you using to open the Greek for You Ebook? I'm on their online e-learning platform and I doesn't look at all like what you're using to write and highlight things in the books :(
This is such a helpful video! I am (slowly) learning a little Greek on the side. Do you know if the e-versions of the Deltos stories are compatible with LingQ?
No, they aren’t. At least not from a smart phone. If you purchase them on a desktop computer they may be, but I’m not sure. I’ve only ever purchased them on my I-phone.
I think the digital version comes in the form of an app instead of a file, so no, I don’t think it’d be possible to use them on LingQ. What I did is use the free audio to generate transcript on LingQ. The transcript comes out pretty good, but not perfect, and this is where having the actual reader (whether digital or printed) comes in handy, as you can use it to proofread LingQ’s transcript. It’s a clunky process but I couldn’t think of a better alternative
Hi Tanya, thank you so much for the information. I would like to ask where could I find the digital version for Greek for you? Your videos always inspired me a lot 😊
Hi! You can buy the digital versions here (just be sure to get the right version for you, as there are many translations of the same book): www.neohel.com/greek-for-you-digital-shop/. Things to keep in mind though: instead of getting a single file (like a PDF), what you get is access to their platform through which you access the book itself. This means that if you want to use it in an app like Goodnotes, you essentially have to find a way to convert it to a PDF (e.g. screenshotting the pages and compiling them into one file). Also, if you buy the digital version, you only get access to their platform for 15 months, which is not ideal, but can also be motivating to actually finish the book before you lose access to it
Greek For You is not the best option there. I have them for all levels and very often you can find mistakes, very misleading and confusing. To give you an example, the word τίποτε is never used by the Greeks. The correct form is τίποτα and no other variation (fyi, the book suggests both forms).
Thank you so much for the video. I wanted to ask about " Greek for You". I purchesed the digital version but I cant download it to my ipad, I saw that you did that can you tell how ? thank you
I have a question. You mentioned in the video, that you use greek for you as ebook, this would be so much cheaper. but when I checked the website, and I chose to put A0, A1 textbook and A1 training book into the cart, I realised that it would cost me about 75 Euros. I think, I will wait with learning greek 🙂
I did! Before deciding on the textbooks I use now, I actually bought the Teach Yourself Complete Greek book and disliked it so much that I immediately returned it. Here's a thread I wrote on Twitter about why I did not like the book, if you're curious: x.com/botanechka/status/1637681553840177152?s=20
With Greek I usually do 50 new words + however many reviews the app tells me to do (usually 50-100). It sounds like a lot but the whole thing never takes more than 15 minutes
@tbenavente Thanks so much for responding 😊 I’m still figuring out how many new words to do every day, and 15 minutes of Clozemaster sounds totally doable!
So the process is kinda clunky (and probably not entirely legal lol), but you can either screenshot the pages and compile them into a PDF or you can access the source code of the platform (usually right click anywhere on the web page once you have the book open => "inspect" and then follow the instructions here: snipboard.io/Wuymec.jpg), download each individual page (I know 😅) and compile it into a file. The screenshot I linked above is from safari, so it might look a bit different in another browser. If you run into a problem, let me know!

Greek should be the international language not English
Why?

Nah, definitely not. Even if not English it would be something with the roman alphabet. Greek is isolated.
