Great video. After some research and testing I found a few things that were hurting me. You will block (they will gain limit but less) if you are too fast or too slow. This can be solved with 2 things: 1 wait for the full windup (orange glow fully fades and whoosh sound dies), as it will make these match very well. 2. The game seems to only seem to check for the dodge action when the attack lands more or less. So if you are pausing consistently, it was surprising to me to find the pause screen doesn't eat inputs. You can pause as above, match with the video screenshots, hold the proper stick *while then* unpausing and it should work. I was spamming stick thinking I was losing inputs to pause making it too fast or slow. The full windup also helps these pictures match very well. Also the "if you expect to get slapped" comment helped WAY more than I thought it would upon hearing.
I just want to thank for you this video as well as the one on the Shinra Manager. I struggled through the rest of them by luck and I think Ifrit took me a hour an a half to get lucky. Without these videos I would never have gotten through. All of the attacks look the same and I don't have the reaction time anymore by the time I did notice which one was coming.

The best way I've found to enter in the correct code is this: wait until sephiroth has completely wound his attack back and then pause the game. Tilt the appropriate joystick and then unpause. You should dodge perfect everytime. If you pause too early you'll land a block. This way you don't have to worry about timing the unpause with flicking the joystick. This guide has has been my saving grace. Thank you!

This will sound very silly but what helped me out a good deal wasn't seeing Sephiroth's poses, but rather seeing where the 'Paused' was in relation to his face. If you're having trouble identifying his poses and the evade to go with it, try this instead. Good video all the same! One step closer to the plat.
Moved onto this round after using your guide from the previous round. Not so much as a scratch on him. I cam see the attacks easy enough. Even with the guide in the comments ill be damned if i can see it through the end. What a brilliant idea it was to tie one of the most valuable accessories in with the WORST minigame. Maybe one day ill go back to it but not today! Thanks anyway!
This isn't really a one try fix, especially since Sephiroth changes the speed of his attacks during combos. Once you get the pause timing down it should be fairly simple. A lot of people hold the correct input before unpausing and say it helps.

Yeah after spending several hours on this mini-game my brain was like: You have reached the bullshit threshold for minigames, and its starting to molest your sanity. How to cheese? Ah ha!
I would try to pause a little earlier if you can then, since blocks can easily do you in with this many inputs. Also try to see if your TV is on game mode, or try directly wiring your controller to the console. Any little thing can help, I run my PS5 through a capture card, and into my monitor, and there is a tiny delay, so if you have to wire in directly, or give it a day and come back with a bit more muscle memory. Just don't lose your mind. Deep breaths.
@secretbunnyninja finally got it! Had one block to spare. Cleaned out my controller, and I was laying sideways on my couch and it seems turning the controller can rotate cloud so idk if that paired with the dodge makes them blocks, but sitting upright worked for me 🤣🤣 thanks for your help!!
For any right analog inputs, I move my left hand over the pause button, and the right hand ready at the analog stick for as soon as you unclick pause - just need to adjust for the slight input delay when doing right controls.

In the original it was optional, and it came before achievements. The reward wasn't even that good, so ultimately it could be left undone with no thought. Which was precisely what they should have done with it in this series of remakes. I literally cannot believe how most of these achievements are tied to complete and utter boring nonsense. Its honestly very telling to me that I cannot trust these companies with my nostalgia, because they will weaponize it against me.

This sucks. I can pretty much dodge all of his attacks until he goes into rage mode and does his four combos. He either hits me or I block. I dunno what’s going on because it was a left stick left move and I was holding left stick to the left but when I unpaused he still hit me?? And at times I’ll be pushing the analog stick in the right direction before unpausing and I’ll block instead of dodging. I hate this game.
I was one of the people that took probably an hour to beat him after I made the screenshots, so the best thing to do is let the muscle memory develop and try again on a day when it is less annoying.

before you unpause, hold the analog stick in the correct position, it will register and usually prevents blocking. Essentially a block means you did it correct, but too slow, so you still take some damage.
the game allows the input you make during the pause screen to effect itself without having to re-input said analogue tilt, so use that to your advantage by holding the direction when you exit the pause screen, it helps prevent blocks
Just the shinra manager and sephiroth, I didn't think of doing this before then. Which is sad and that time is forever lost. I highly recommend just doing the same thing with the other fights on your own, just snap / pause / scroll on your phone until you got it down. The reason I found this so damn annoying was because, we have to dodge so many damn attacks before we can even get 1 hit in. It was really annoying.

Its literally rng because even if you do the right input cloud just blocks and sephiroths limit gauge still moves up. Such an annoying mini game
the point is to dodge, if you block you were too slow, I would recommend pausing earlier
