  • In this video i replace the lower control arms on a Renault Laguna3, I made two mistakes that i will go into at the end of the video.
This video is for entertainment purposes only. Under no circumstances should you do what I do.
Please do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

I have the Lag 2. Can you just do the ball joint and not the whole arm? I suppose youd need to get it out if its pressed in? Can that be done while its still mounted to the frame? Easy or PITA? Cheers

You can just replace the ball joints, you might have to drill out the pressed on rivets and the new one will come with nuts and bolts, it’s a quick and easy job

Great video mate, thank you very much.
Would you consider removing the complete subframe way harder than what's shown here? I wanna replace the subframe bushings and the whole anti roll bar together with it's bushings. Subframe must be completely out the car. Is it doable to detach the steering rack from the subframe and keep it on the car? I'd like to not mess with the power steering lines or the steering rack at all

I did end up removing the subframe to replace the steering rack. It’s not hard to remove but takes a bit of time, if I was you I’d disconnect the steering shaft as it’s only a c clip that holds it together, when lining the spline back up it can be difficult to slide it on completely but if you have a long pry bar you can tap it down from the top of the engine bay and just fit the c clip on then. Just follow the lines from the power steering reservoir and you will find a few 10mm nuts and remove the heat shield as there is I think two 10mm nuts under that as well. Good luck with the job and I’d recommend you have a second pair of hands with you to make it easier. If you need any more assistance just ask and I’ll try my best to answer any questions you may have

@@quickfixmechanicsHaven't attempted the job yet as I had no time at all, but after discussing with other people who done that already I'm a bit skeptical about replacing the frame bushings. There's no original part available, the rubber replacement is apparently low quality and polyurethane replacements seem kinda sketchy and people said they can damage the subframe. I might end up replacing only the sway bar, lower control arms & tie rods. The sway bar I gotta pull out cause it's moving, the limiters were faulty in Ph1 lagunas and I got a fixed version of the sway bar ready to mount.
Somehow I'm a bit scared of this job even though it seems fairly simple 🫣
What I'm worried the most is that I'll find out the steering rack to be damaged as in your case since they seem to be pretty low quality in the Mk3 lagunas, and since I have 4control the rack is specific with additional sensor. So far I only heard bad opinions about repairing these racks, even at professional shops.

@@quickfixmechanics my main issues are a thumping sound if moving the steering wheel when stationary. I narrowed it down to be the sway bar itself. But also the car started to be very wobbly at uneven road, it tries to pull out the steering wheel from my hands, even though there seems to be no play on steering components and steering seems firm. Hence why I mainly blamed the control arms & subframe bushings.

Hi and thanks for the comment, I didn't replace the frame bushings either. I was fine with doing the lower control arms but it took a bit of time all the same, the steering rack was a bit intimidating but once you start at it and remove the subframe it's not to bad. I would recommend you have another pair of hands around to help with lifting and lining everything up, I had a thumping noise on uneven roads and replaced so much already I knew it could only be the lower control arms and that did fix the issue. The sway bar bushings i replaced when i had the subframe out as they were squeaking over bumps.

    Merci encore...

The bolt I put on in reverse so the next time I don’t have to lower the subframe, I didn’t remove the steering joint ???. I did remove the Axle as needed more room for fitting the new control arm.Thank you for the comment

You really did a great work. Thank you very muchg for sharing. I need to change the anti roll bar bushings, do you think that I have to lower the subframe to have enough access? Many thanks.

    • @quickfixmechanics

Hey thanks very much for the kind comment, for the anti roll bar bushings you will need to lower the subframe as access is very hard. Good luck with the job. I did mine but I had the subframe out as I noticed the steering rack was leaking bad so I put a new one in

Inner tie rod boot is in the way, it's better if you take it out but it's still doable if you have small fingers.

At last, a detailed, well-filmed video on how to change those bloody control arms! I'm going to try it next week and change my inner and outer tie rods too. How long did it take? Did you also change the sway bar bushings while the frame was lowered?

Hey thanks for the comment I really appreciate it, it took me around two hours to complete the job. I didn’t change sway bar bushings at that moment as I needed to change the steering rack, I noticed it was leaking badly when doing this job so waited until I had the whole subframe out and done them then.

    • @quickfixmechanics
      @quickfixmechanics  5 месяцев назад +1

Once you have the jack under the subframe all will be fine, just don’t lower it too much as the steering rack is attached to it
