Even the ImJinGak river bridge is new. It was a one way bridge when I served there, made with wooden planks. Did you get the chance to visit some of the tunnels? Did you get a chance to see the QRF area? The Swiss/Swed Compound is no longer there? Man those guys were a blast to hang out with. The UN Compound in Seoul was a blast as well.
Very well made and interesting video. It's a high possibility with the recent events taking place in Korea that the Joint Security Area won't be in existence for much longer, you're very lucky to have visited and made this video before that happens.
I notice how the soldier always puts things in a *_"request-ish"_* format (albeit a strong one implicit of an order)...... _"Please do not point wave gesture towards them in any manner"_ _"The only thing I ask... that you please do not take pictures of is the cameras..."_ _"I ask that you please do not disturb them"_ _"...All I ask is that you please cross back and forth between North and South Korea at that end of the table..."_ This format completely dissapears when he gets to..... _"*Do not attempt* to cross behind the soldier at the rear. He's guarding the door to North Korea"_ I'm guessing that one is pretty damn iron-clad for a reason lol.
Thanks for the Video. I was stationed at PanMunJom/JSA in 1988/99. It was an honor to serve as an American Soldier there. The week and hours were long, but all worth it. I'm truly amazed at how much the UNCMAC area has changed. The tours however are still the same. However, They were holding eachother to lock the north UNCMAC door back then as well for the same reason. Thanks for the tour down memory lane, US Army Retired!
Such a tense zone. A war would start at any moment if one side makes a move. Isn't it kind of creepy being there? What would happen if some North Korean decided to start shooting? WW3?
You cut off right in the middle of a place I wanted to hear. He said the blue buildings belong to the United Nations and the grey buildings belong to .... ?
Jansen's Videos Hey doesn't it bother you that the North Koreans are allowed to come in their building and wave and point at us but then we're told not to point or wave at them?
+ChinaLake100 I'm certainly not trying to answer for, or to speak for _Jansen_, as I do not know them. I'd *suspect* though, that it doesn't bother them whatsoever to be expected to be a _better person_ than a childish, communist soldier who likely hates their life anyway. It certainly doesn't bother me to treat my fellow humans equally even through others are openly racist. Or, that some people can drive drunk and not get caught, while I'm told not to. Besides, I've *no* doubt at all that - given the number of visitors - there _are_ American (and other) tourists who wave to, make faces at, display middle fingers toward, and direct all manner of other childish behaviors regularly at the North Koreans despite these requests and warnings. But then, I'd have to ask............. *_Why?_* Why _wave_ arrogantly at the North Koreans - a significant percentage of whom did nothing wrong except be unlucky enough to be born in a massive shithole of a country, and join the military because it's one of the _only_ ways in that nation for their family to not go hungry and to not be in constant danger? Why? To what end would you be _waving_ at them? Many of the people whom you would be _waving_ at would at any time gladly sign a contract agreeing to have one of their limbs amputated via steak knife, with no anesthetic, just for the opportunity - _considered a mere "vacation" by us_ - for their families to be allowed to stand where you are standing while _waving_ at them; to be able to take their child's hand, turn around and walk southbound away from those buildings, board a bus, and go anywhere in the world that they wish, just like you and I can. This is one of the most heavily militarized and tense places on this planet. It represents the end of the _physical portion_ of a conflict in which thousands of young, vibrant, potential-filled people died horribly and painfully, leaving behind terribly devastated mothers, fathers, siblings, and even children. Or, whose one and only life on this earth was abruptly and violently cut woefully short before they ever got to experience the absolute awe of gazing into the eyes of a child which they created. It is also a place where - *at any given moment - a conflict just as serious (or likely much worse) could very literally erupt over JUST ONE single, simple, even **_unintentional_**, gesture or action*; a _completely accidental_ weapon discharge; a simple disagreement between two humans with emotions; *one*, solitary, lone, rouge soldier's misstep or temper; or any other of a thousand - normally unimportant - potential actions. Hell, even an innocent medical emergency or a fire could be the spark that starts a war involving the young adults of many nations, kills a hundred thousand innocent people, or even initiates the first use of nuclear weaponry in over 70 years. *_"We"_** (civilians and tourists- much less American ones) really do not even belong there in the first place.* I suspect however, that authorities are willing to allow our presence at this immensely important location on the world's stage only because they are able to rely heavily on the assumption that those who wish to visit such an important, solemn, tense and dangerous place to begin with, are likely *_far better individuals_* than the type who would journey to *_another people's_* nation, ride *_their_* buses and use *_their_* roadways, just to stand at *_their_* border next to *_their_* soldiers and *purposefully antagonize **_their_** sworn enemies* from *_their_* soil. Were I ever to personally visit a place on earth were a single person's actions could spark a violent and awful war among nations, I can guarantee you that *nobody would ever even have to **_ask_** me not to **_wave_*.
Both sides have soldiers standing like robots, I think it will be the soldier by the door. I watched a video of a north korean politician who stepped into the south korea territory and south koreans immediately arrested him savagely
I haven't finished the video yet (I'm at 5 minutes when you're standing in N Korea), but I must say that this is an absolutely amazing video!! It's surreal just to watch it from my comfortable, quiet, peaceful Midwest American home; I can feel the tension just watching it, and cannot imagine what it must feel like to stand a few feet from a door where N Korean soldiers have attempted to _drag_ free people into their country. Thank you for sharing this with us, and for visiting such an important place on your vacation when most folks would simply find the nearest beach!
Sounds like an interesting trip, I notice the American military person tends to speak loud and fast. Thank you for sharing as well. Looks like I am looking forward to visit the border between the two Koreas.
The security of the operation is paramount. The Korean War is technically still ongoing as no treaty between the North Koreans and the UN have been made. That is an active military base
I still wanna visit the DMZ. I've seen other vids of this place. There are tours (visits) you can plan to North Korea. Don't want that, just wanna visit the DMZ
at present the south has cameras everywhere instead of the guards, the north Korean guards must be miserable now having to stare at poles with moving cameras!!
Thanks for the video. It's always interesting to see the tour from the south. As odd as it may seem, videos of the DMZ from the north seem to be considerably more common.
I think it's best to not fuck with these dudes. Cause I really don't want to watch another fucking NK propaganda video about some dipshit who jumped the border.
Both the ROK and US soldiers would make every attempt to stop you from getting across the border. If you were to make it across, you would likely be grabbed by a KPA soldier. If you did manage to make it back across to South Korea, you would be safe from the North Koreans but would likely face some serious retributions...
Anakin Skywalker Various reasons, they'd likely do so in order to use you as a propaganda piece for their country, assuming you are American or from a western country. They'd also use you and other foreign prisoners as "bargaining chips" to extort better results from western countries when it comes to things like sanctions and whatnot.
The Soviets played an equal role in partitioning Korea. All we wanted to do was stop the spread of communism. Which has not and will not work. USSR toppled by 1991, N Korea millions of citizens starving, and China in 20 years a large portion of their population will be dead and men will greatly out number women due to that one child policy.
The United Nations! I’m glad the Philippines is part of the United Nations. 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 But why is the Flag’s Red And blue so bright? Maybe because that is what the Flag used to look like. ;)
I served on the DMZ from Jan 68 to Feb 69. Interesting to see the South Koreans have turned it into tourist trap. The DMZ was actually created by a cease fire agreement between China, N. Korea, S Korea, and NATO in 1953. Def the last place I would book a vacation lol
Two sides of a long ago stories each side want you to side with them be mature an aftet spending you money to see three blue unusr buildings for PEACE talks go home they live there you dont🙄🤔😑
haha. I just got back from the other side. The NK guards are much more cheerful. They're relaxed and laugh and smile and snap photos together and so on. The SK guards stand frozen and frowning in a martial arts death pose. The south side is scary! The only thing scary on the north side was that it was close to the south.
Well then, you fell into their trap, tricking a westerner into thinking they are good people whilst their leader murders his own uncle in a power play.
Jansen's Videos The North does a really good job of giving a good impression. Btw, I forgot to mention, your video is really well taken and edited! I like the way you show the entire trip starting from departure from Seoul. It's exactly what I wanted to see. To get a feeling of what it would be like to go there. Getting up in the morning in Seoul, what things the tax or bus would pass by and so on. Thanks!
man wtf I wanted to see "the bridge of no return" and u didn't film it :( . How u gonna have a name like the bridge of no return in north korea and not film it or talk aout it man. LAME

wow, nice video.. buti hindi sinita na nagvi video ka sa kanila sir.. hehehe...new friend and supporter here
My husband and I were there in 1983! There were no shops and no lunch!
That's one fast-talking soldier...
+W Sears Yeah, you can tell he's done this a time or two... or three... or a hundred thousand, LOL.
Hey which 4ravel company did you use? My friends and I are trying to visit but dont know a good company that could take us
Love the opening music. Could you list the title of the soundtrack. Thanks.
whats the name of the music in the beginning of the video? sounds awesome
I see. Thanx. Never heard of it though I'm Polish. ;) When was this ca?
Very well made and interesting video. It's a high possibility with the recent events taking place in Korea that the Joint Security Area won't be in existence for much longer, you're very lucky to have visited and made this video before that happens.
8:46 a bird has defected from NK
He didn't make it far. He stepped on a _sky-mine_ about 1000 feet in. I read about his untimely demise in the paper.
Or a spy drone masquerading as a bird from the NK side I don't know.
Why are there millitary in the Demilitarized zone?
he speaks so fast
That's military
I notice how the soldier always puts things in a *_"request-ish"_* format (albeit a strong one implicit of an order)......

6:02 Jeez, don't try to look like you're having *too* much fun..

Wonder if a tourist has ever ran across the border
Testing Computer some have attempted.
Testing Computer
An American tourist did. Shots fired!!
it's a pretty dumb thing to do.... i doubt..
@@joeyclemenza7339 yep. A lot of people I've spoken to have said it's a stupid idea to even go take a tour of war zone.
What a great and well made video. Thanks for going through the trouble for this!
How much is tour?
3:24 did he say Polish? What was it all about? What did he mean? He's talking sooo quickly.
What if you were at the demilitarized zone an were at that stone thing and had 1 foot in South Korea and the other foot in North Korea
EitherSourh Korean soldiers will stop you or North Koreans will abduct you (Though SK soldier would definitely try to immobolize you). Your choice
holy shit, I had no idea you could do this. I need to go here
I've always wanted to visit the DMZ. Great video.
Same here! Thank you for your service! (will reply directly as well)
Great vid! Fav part is suddenly the pic of you next to the guard! Good stuff.
I like that us soldier, he's got a good head on his shoulders
I am the 1000th subscriber!!
Good video, thanks for the upload.

They will arrest you

RMA 98 yeah i watched that too lol
So if you are an artist and have photographic memory 0_o
Poland was a neutral country used during negotiations there.

Why our India and Nepal open border?
Excellent video! Shame about the photography restrictions. Thanks for posting.
Thanks! Really interesting film!
You're very welcome, thank you.
Dzięki!
Thank you very much!
If I go there I'd wave to the people on the other side
So much edited for no reason :(
Country still at Civil War

Song at 6.00 sound soo familiar!!
La by Rain ?
Dariany Ceja no the guitar rift
Hahaha. Yeah, that came to my mind too XD
You can tell that guard has explained that shit thousands of times
No way! Had I known then what I know now, I never would have gone in the Military. However, outside of serving, I was able to see alot of the world.
THANK YOU for your service :)
Thanks!
I still wanna visit the DMZ. I've seen other vids of this place. There are tours (visits) you can plan to North Korea. Don't want that, just wanna visit the DMZ
Thank you for serving your country and your kind words.
1:40 "Get to the choppa!"
Indo-myanmar open border ,china- Myanmar open border ,why not North and South Korea?
John Lyndem
Because North Korea is on a whole different level of crazy.
The only War Zone in the world and that's the only place that does tours or at least my knowledge.
at present the south has cameras everywhere instead of the guards, the north Korean guards must be miserable now having to stare at poles with moving cameras!!
they always make you exit through the gift shop
high tensions there today I bet
Thanks that was great ! informative and interesting.
Thanks for the video. It's always interesting to see the tour from the south. As odd as it may seem, videos of the DMZ from the north seem to be considerably more common.
Summer 2010. Wow, I though tensions there would have risen by then, due to the sinking of the Cheonan.
That random north Korean guard looking in the window lol
Just the way you are
What is so funny? Your own image in the mirror?
Guard in Window: Sigh... Democracy... so close... yet so far. 😫
I think that Nk soldier wants to join them
thats some spooky stuff. thanks for sharing
Ahh the DMZ. Where a sneeze or a fart could trigger the next world war.
Funny thing is I was looking for DmZ dubstep
what if i cross the border and jump back very quickly ? will i be ok ? ok the north korean will cross the border and grab me back to north korea ?
I think it's best to not fuck with these dudes. Cause I really don't want to watch another fucking NK propaganda video about some dipshit who jumped the border.

6:18 - That NK soldier standing outside the window is just creepy.

very cool!!
I would spy on the German-Austrian Border for Hours
No filming. You might as well have not toured.
Nadir Rabah
Only in some places, not all. Most of the tour we were allowed to film. :)

How did you get on the NK side?
The tour guide is speaking too fast I can't take it all in
Ben Wyatt -Tell me about it! He was about to return to America so I’m thinking he didn’t really give a crap. LoL
Just play at 0.75x speed and it's fine :)
