Alright so he said the problem lies in society and how parents teach and prepare their children. But the question hasn't really been answered yet. How should people meet each other and do this in the right way in this day and age?

You can ask around if anyone knows someone that wants to get married and you arrange it. Ask in your mosque or your close friends. or you find a Muslimah you like then you simply say you like her and want to marry her and would like to speak to her father.
