@@leme5639 "Something wrong with Western EU politicians". This give me weird vibes. Politicians are diverse and have various opinions. Did you ever realise that this kind of divisive talk is exactly what Russia wants? Is this the next thing big thing people will fall for? East vs West in the EU??? Just keep dialogue, talk and promote and protect democracy. There's no need to patronise as in "we need to take care of them". Good politics is boring, lacks strong words and leads to the best policy.
Just look at Russia. Strong words, but weak outcomes. That's why I love the EU countries that support Ukraine without being loudmouth about it, but just because it's logical and it has to be done to protect democracy.

In order to destroy the destabilizing US factor, Europe must become a sovereign force, and without Russia's technology, army, resources and population it's impossible, Russia will always deviate from Europe's interests and act in its own interests to fix it, Russia must become a member of the EU and NATO, and the US role in NATO should be deliberately reduced. If this had been done even in the noughties or after the collapse of the USSR, Europe would have been much more powerful, independent and secure. Koreans themselves, and I, who leaves this comment, am one of them, do not often realise it, but the partnership with Poland would be one of the remaining great chances for the country not only to boost its economy but also to develop any sort of idea for its grand strategy. Koreans today, just as a Korean expert on international relations screamed in a conference at the CSIS, are "just power-mongering people" without any idea of what's going on. Some arrogant Koreans who are addicted to Germanphilia or Russophilia (sadly, it includes some of my closest friends) tend to neglect Poland's struggle to develop a grand strategy for their country, but it is the very thing Seoul should learn from Warsaw.

This has happened in the past and it did show that his government is desperate to keep their claws on power. Also another issue is that, once the Ukraine war is over, the Russians would have an experienced army under their control - say what you will but since they fought for probably months on the frontlines or trenches they know how everything works. This is to say that Russia would probably launch an Ukrainian-like invasion into Belarus to change government or annex.

Between 1990 and 2021, we increased the country's GDP from $1,731 to $18,000. Almost a 10-fold increase. It only took 30 years - barely one generation of peace and self-determination for the nation. Unfortunately, it won't work when we are a Russian colony from which the oligarchs will drain every penny. It's not the fact that I will have to deny myself a new smartphone that worries me, it's whether my children will not be serf peasants in the Second Soviet Union.
Prosperity and money really like stability and security. And foreign investors like it when their investments are defended by a 300,000-strong army armed with the latest equipment. Samsung will not build a semiconductor factory if there is a high risk that this factory will turn to ashes from Mordor's artillery. Or it will be expropriated by Prigozhin like mines in Africa. If the plan with the Koreans succeeds, we could become an important arms producer. Which may prompt our allies to react more strongly in wartime. It's good to have some practical arguments in addition to the moral ones like "they threaten the supply of your army". The US would throw itself into the fire for Taiwan because of their dominance in semiconductors.
We are talking about increasing military spending from 3 to 4-5% of GDP. I treat this as an investment.

Poland (and Czechia) were global leaders in industrial/mechanical manufacturing before being gutted by the Germans then the Soviets.
But in the last 5-10yrs, here in the USA, both countries have become synonymous with top tier European manufacturing. Maybe still behind Germany and Switzerland, but easily matching or surpassing countries such as Spain, France, Italy.
Based solely on my fields of interest, I have seen a massive increase in high end specialty goods coming from there. For example:
      • Carbon fiber aircrafts for general aviation (private pilots)
      • Professional and consumer hand tools
      • Industrial tooling for metal working machines
      • Firearms and military defense manufacturing (this is America after all 🔫🇺🇸 lol)

As an American: I welcome the developments with South Korea and Poland. Our defense industry have been too lax and are losing bids because other countries' companies are willing to offer a fair price. This has been a wake up call to American military industries that competitiveness will triumph, not lobbying.
Further, South Korea and Poland are among our absolute best friends overseas and I couldn't be more glad to see them cooperating. I hope this trend of cooperation deepens and spreads because we Americans don't actually want to fight alone should the worst happen. I also agree that this is a solid first step at fostering a "Western Bloc" in Europe; military industrialization has a way of working miracles when it comes to building out massive supply chains that will be useful for decades to come in more than just military hardware.
Also, it's really delicious seeing the Germans complain about Polish nuclear reactors. It's like Poland is just making American dreams come true; apart from our corporations who don't see the larger picture.

Why do you think Germans refused to impose harsh sanctions, they send only 5k helmets while imposing red lines for any heavy equipment, blocked military aid, told Ukrainian delegation that there is no point in helping them and were waiting idle for several months while Putin rolled into Ukraine and demanded withdrawal of Nato out from every country between Germany and Russia? The same reason Nord stream avoided any country in between these two players, the same reason dozen of German wealthy buinsessman and politicians were in many seats high in Russian resource industry and vice versa. The same reason Poland after 2008 visit in invaded Georgia, opposing this slowly approaching threat loudly was ridiciuled for years, meanwhile both Russian and German msm, envouiremental activists and politicians were attacking such investments like LNG gas terminals, eu friendy pipeline with the nords and many, many more, remember msm crusade about xenophobic, russophobic, racist, facist Poland thrown without any thought for years? Yeah...
Don't be naive, Germans changed their policy towards Ukraine once they realized they became the fifth column, and went with the flow to avoid total political suicide and finger pointing that was going on for months.
All that becouse Putin misscalculated both Ukrainian strenght and influence that many countries accumulated and actively used to force western partners to act.

With France more concerned with orchestrating a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine to maintain their own relationship with Russia, and with Germany acting like a child, only willing to follow where others lead, Europe is desperately in need of a strong new power to unite and organize the smaller nations, especially in the east.
Poland, if they can afford it, is the perfect country to do this. They will never grovel to, or fear Russia like France and Germany, and they are more interested in strengthening and building alliances instead of trying to outmaneuvering their own allies.
It seems like the mantel of defenders of democracy will be carried by nations like Japan and South Korea in the east against China, and England and Poland in the west against Russia...
and of course the United States wherever they can sail a carrier strike force or fly a Stealth bomber, so pretty much anywhere.

Lol, England as the defender of democracy? I would love it to see, when the Scotts the Welsh and the North Irelanders would finally come to us for good, and make a stronger Europe, while England can defend democracy. Fun fact, their first thing after WWII was to deport back every single polish fighter pilot who fought for them in the battle of England back to commie Poland. They didnt even let them to participate on the victory parade.

Of course, I would have preferred if the poles bought European stuff to build up a strong common defence industry but I definitely understand their choice as we cannot provide the needed mass in short terms and they want to be more than client states...

The ironic thing about this statement is that Poland is actually deepening its alliance with the US, binding itself to America for decades to come with these new purchases and maintenance deals, and by cutting deals with what is basically an American protectorate (South Korea), and allowing an entire American command to be stationed in their nation. They are becoming stronger by growing closer to America.
The 2nd cold war is based further east this time, and the western Europeans (excluding the UK) seem less willing and less important in the new struggle. Nations like Japan and Korea hold the eastern front against China, just as Poland and Ukraine hold the west against the Neosoviets. That is where America will focus it's attention (and money) as time goes on.
All that being said, even Americans are glad when European countries decrease their reliance on the US military umbrella, most anti European sentiment in the US comes from the perception that the Europeans either can't or won't protect themselves, so military buildup in friendly nations is usually very well received here.

As an American this seems like a great plan. Poland and for that matter Ukraine knows how to deal with the Russian nonsense And has the motivation to stay vigilant. South Korea would be an excellent partner as they are in much of the same situation with China. They are also highly industrious and have excellent technical capabilities.
This would give some very welcome buffer space between the Russian hord and the US

As a Romanian, I think this war has showed that Western EU countries are passive, shy and unable to make decisive decisions. Their policies and actions are almost lethargic I would say. It is like the entire current generation of Western politicians is weak, compared to their grandfathers from the decades after WW2. It has become clear that Eastern Europe has to create a block within EU (or why not separate), with US, UK and South Korea as strategic partners. Not only we will secure the region for the decades to come, but also this is what will drive economic growth - the highest in the EU and one of the highest in the Western world in general. The future looks promising! We have to take it one step at a time. Next step? Help Ukraine get a decisive victory over Russia and effectively demilitarize that secular regime of destruction.

@@Honking_Goose Your comment is foolish, empty-headed and lacks any foresight. Are you familiar with the concept of capital formation? CEE economies formed lots of capital driven by Western EU investments of the last 2-3 decades, just as Western EU countries formed their capital aided by the US huge investment plans (e.g. Marshall after WW2). It is a natural basic process of free economies. This is how the world works. Being nostalgic for "the good old times" helps no one. Taking action and making thoughtful plans does.
