  • This tune is definitely the cultural anthem of the Metis people of Canada. It may very well be the national fiddle tune of Canada as well. It also happens to be--in my opinion--crooked as a dog's hind leg :D
    I've got my mando tuned to ADAE, the traditional tuning for this perhaps 200+ year old tune. I tried to use a metronome but because of added beats and phrasings, that threw me off something fierce.
    I settled for starting slow-moderate and tried increasing my speed as I went. If you want to hear it done properly, look for Calvin Vollrath's (or Patti Kusturok's or Gordon Stobbe's or any number of other Canadian fiddler's) version. I'll get it eventually but for today, I'm content to have memorized it. Enjoy!
