🙄 So, if you were selling your things you wouldn't upcharge stuff you spent more on? And yeah, yeah, most is donated, but you think they put out everything they get? No, people have to go through those, pick the best of the best. Have you ever seen how foul some things can be? Once went through a box that literally had moldy nasty oatmeal corroded in a canister. Smelled hella nasty. By all means, go volunteer for 90 days and I guarantee you'll change your tune.

Some goodwill stores have been on ebay for over 20 years. Shop goodwill started in 1999 with over $515 million dollars in sales and climbing daily.
Goodwill is nothing more than a reseller of mostly donated free items. They are now buying amazon pallets to fill their stores with brand new products with instructions to use compared to pricing.
Resellers have nothing to do with the price increase, it has to do with goodwill being a for profit company with a not for profit status...they really should be paying taxes on some of their profits.
Blame goodwill for raising prices to gain the most profit - they could care less about keeping prices affordable for lower income people...it's about their profits period.

In canada, Ontario at least, we have stores called value village and they used to be amazing. I remember going with my mom all the time when I was little because she had 5 relatively young kids and it was hard to make ends meet sometimes, and when I found name brand I’d get super happy because I would be like the other kids at school talking about all their ‘expensive’ clothing. Now I walk into one of those stores and the name brand is all behind the front counter selling for nearly original prices. There was like a 2000’s ugly lulu lemon sweater, gross looking, being sold there for 50$. It was a miracle that I found a plain back shirt for 2.99. They get these items for free and they hike it all the way up, that’s messed up.

Few months back I went to donate about 8 bags of my family’s stuff, went back to shop a few weeks ago since my daughter is into all these y2k trends and found a few of my donated items, the prices I saw on them were insane!!! They definitely are making a profit out of FREE/DONATED ITEMs. My daughter saw that and now she won’t let me donate anymore, she’s made 2 yard sales ever since. Lol

Each Goodwill location is different. A lot has to do with the kind of donations they get and how knowledgeable the manager is who runs the place. There are two near me. One had a Schwinn bicycle for sale identical to one I bought at Walmart for $199 the month before and that Goodwill had a price of $250 for it and the tires were nearly bald and the paint had scratches all over it, basically in used condition. That one always has ridiculous prices on things. But the other one at the other end of the county sells bicycles in good working condition for $50. A lot of these places know people are buying their stuff to resell on eBay.

Just fyi some good wills are buying semis full of returns and there overstock from name brand stores. That's probably the reason for to so many duplicates. My local store got a semi of online returns from target. Not all the stuff was great. Some had shipping damage. Just make sure to check it good before buying. Happy treasure hunting!

Thrift stores really don't save you much these days.i saw a brand new pair of jeans tags still on them.they were a dollar cheaper than at the walmart.ive bought many pairs of jeans that don't last a week because they were dry rotted.thrift stores have became a rat race, you have to get there a certain day and time and hope they have something decent.the employees usually have lists from people that they know who want certain things that are put aside for them.they get paid to do it to.

It's kind of interesting. Because we have a second hand store in Sweden too. And it's a whole chain of stores. Anyway they also get their stuff for free. People donate. And the people who work there are volunteers they don't get payed. And some stuff they sell are ridiculously expensive 😬 and some things are super cheap depending on which store you go too..

  • @terricafree2776

I worked for them and after Christmas when people would donate their decorations of ornaments, outside deer made of wicker with lights very expensive donations that families with children would love to have and store for the next season because it's to expensive during the season, THEY(GOODWILL MANAGERS) would instruct us to put in the trash compactor because Christmas season was over. Sad truth. Lots of donators have no idea. It would be better to have a yard sale or just sit on the side of the road. Goodwills original concept for the company was wholesome, now it's greed.

Those kids shoes are from Target. Target buys tons of Target clearance merchandise & sells it for more than the marked down Target price (usually). Anybody who thinks that Goodwill is a non-profit “charity” this sadly mistaken.

If they have that many of the same thing in stock it's a new good that they bought themselves from pallets of discontinued items. You can ask employees about it, so no those aren't free. But in general yeah the prices are getting raised because they gave employees raises, or they were supposed to.
