The temperature was adjusted by simply moving the heatgun closer or further away. We did not clean the motherboard for residual flux as we forgot to do so - and btw there was also no flux residues to be seen. Hi! I'm having a similar boot loop problem with my Nexus 5. My first idea was that only the power button is failing (a new one is on the way), but i tried to wash it through with contact spray, even with wd-40, since i had nothing to lose. But it had no effect. Do you have any idea, how could i test if the power button is the problem, or something like the one in your video? I'm afraid i have to start looking for a new phone... :/
Hi ! unfortunately this saved my phone during one day and now issue came back. Could you please tell us what is the liquid you put on the chip before warming it ? Thanks.
I don't know, but I will definitely look into it. at the very least I can see that the copper and thermal paste are applying pressure to the back of the chip, which can help close the contacts that are broken. I will research this and if it is a viable solution I will post a new video. Thank you.
Hi, did you have the chance to check it? I have this problem, tried with a Hair dryer the phone boot for 1 hour, and then frozen again. I tried again, but this time the phone won't turn on. Is completely dead. Thanks!
I have a Nexus 6P that started boot looping. Tried reflashing all partitions (except userdata) and no luck. Cannot even get into recovery only fastboot. I tried flashing modified boot and recovery images to disable big cores also. Is there anything else like this to try?
ICDT Technologies yeah, I tried to freeze me phone, then switch it on a hundred of times; when it switched on I tried to clean the memory; then I heat it and cleaned it like in this video and now it works (even if maybe not for long) ... and I've got no idea what was the problem. Maybe you know?
We recommend that you NEVER freeze your phone, when trying to repair it. This will promote condensation, which can lead to corrosion. We are still offering the data recovery service and LG and Google are still covering warranties on this fault.
Watching on a Nexus 5X. Strange that on two occasions mine bootlooped and the first one stopped after Factory Reset. The second incident got fixed by uninstalling Shareit. Other vids recommended using a copper plate heatsink. Any thoughts how much longer mine will last with a heatsink mod?
I am facing the same problem .Saw your video got little hope for my Nexus 5x to get alive. But confused, Is it a permanent fixing method or temporary? And concern that the phone you fixed after heating is working fine till date..
This is what I would call a semi-permanent fix. The customer for this device is still actively using his phone (6 days as of this reply). I would use this technique to retrieve data and maybe able to use till you are able to replace the phone.
What you should do if you have this problem is, if you want to get the data off the phone, do this and get the data off it first, but if you don't care about the data on it you can skip that and follow this guide:forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/tool-bootloop-death-blod-workaround-t3819497 If you want automatic updates, follow the directions in the second thread on that post. If you are going to do this I recommend also flashing an OmniROM-based ROM for the most seamless installation of updates. If you want increased security, you can generate your own signing keys and replace the ones in the zip with them, then transfer the updated zip to your phone.
i tried as in the video but nothing it started and after few minutes went down so i used another temperature cos 380 °F was not enough so i used for 1 minute 450 F with a peak of 500°F with a square tip for solder hot air. Now is working it s almost passed a day, it seems everything s ok. Anyway i putted a large piece of tape biadhesive in the rear of the chip, so it's more pressed.
Marco Esposito what I did is flash a costum kernel and boot image via fastboot, this way the phone only uses the little cluster cores and bypasses the big cluster (the effected chips). Google Nexus 5x BLOD fix
If I have that option I wouldve done that. My problem is that I dont have any warranty or LG support here in my country. Watched your video before I came here and time wasted. You shouldve changed your title of that vid
Julian Teoh I am sorry you don't have the warranty and support that we have here. There is no way for me to know how this works in other countries. I titled my video the way I did on purpose, as I believe it is truly the only viable option for: fixing the bootloop in a way that does not void the warranty, fixing the problem for free, and fixing the problem in a way which provides a 90 day warranty on the work; all through the manufacturer of the device. I want those who do have the warranty option (but do not know that) to see this option first; before they destroy their phones or have a false sense of security that their phone is fixed, when the problem will just return again. If you want your phone to work, just know that the problem is a bad motherboard. That is what LG replaced in my phone. I hope you can find a reliable repair shop that can replace that part for a reasonable price. I don't know of any other real solution for you.
Hello, I have the bootloop issue in my Nexus 5X and LG representative in my country (Dominican Republic) diagnosed my phone with a bad motherboard and told me that I have to replace it. Do you have the part number or any identifier of the motherboard LG placed in your phone?...I need to buy the motherboard but I'm not sure how to find the one without the bootloop issue. Thanks in advance.
I had this happen to my phone today. I don't have the tools to really do this repair myself, although it looks like this is only a temporary fix. Do we know what the actual fix is? Where can I find a place that can do this fix? Any idea of the cost for the fix? Thanks!
Hi there my phone has exact the same problem. Here is my question . What type of Thermal Compound are you using ? Is it MX-4 by Arctic ? Wish me good luck i will need it . Thank you for your video. It gave me hope to retrieve my pictures.
Reeeeealy great video, man. Thank you. I will try your method this week. Can you please tell me what was that on the syringe? Can I use a "regular" Heatgun?
Thank you so much for the compliment. The syringe is Chip Quick No-clean Flux. It helps transfer heat to the chip and prevents the solder joints around the chip from oxidizing. I also do not recommend a heat gun, because it blasts a heat at a wide area. Also, the air speed on a heat gun is too fast, even on low setting. It may be too fast and you risk blowing components out of place or off the board. Please let me know how it turns out.
I'm in Brazil...the "Chip Quick No-clean Flux" I never heard from and I think it will be hard to find. The machine you used I have never seen it too. =/ Just got cold feet after this informations. hehehehe....Should I isolate the others components from the heat gun blast with Tin Foil?
The flux can be found on Amazon. smile.amazon.com/ChipQuik-SMD-291-Clean-Syringe-Nozzle/dp/B00CM2A97S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1500874596&sr=8-5&keywords=no+clean+flux The machine is called a hot air rework station. You can use a budget hot air station, but if you only have a heat gun, use a laser thermometer. And if you want to isolate the chip, I would use kapton tape. It has a very high resistance to heat.
吴灏葱 I think you may be talking about the small tin on the base of my microscope. That is actually tinning paste to clean and care for my soldering iron tips.
southpaw the chips are due in tgis week. If its successful, I will post a new video immediately upon completion. I already have the phone to be repaired.
The back cover is difficult. You can just use your hand very gently or us a plastic safe open tool to work the clasps loose on the sides. I start opening from the charging port. I hope this helps.
Use the corner of an expired plastic (credit) card if you don't have a plastic tool for this. Definitely start from the charging port or the SIM card slot with the tray removed.
Thank you for posting. I am sorry that you are having trouble. I would recommend trying again. Maybe increase temp to 390°F - 400°F but no higher than 400°F. While you are heating the chip in a circular pattern, closely observe the small components around the chip for the solder reflowing (the solder will become shiney). At that point remove the heat and allow it to cool.
ICDT Technologies thank you for your time...i tried but after a while it goes into bootloop again..i tried heating 380-400 but it works for a day or so
Do it once to get it booting temporarily and enable "OEM unlocking" in developer settings (and backup any data), then apply the better software solution from Xda to work around the bad chip: forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/untested-nexus-5x-bootloop-death-fix-t3641199
J Peterman this actually fixed my device. Thanks a lot! But the only problem is that it cannot multi task like before and the phone is a bit slow when opening the camera
hey, thanks first of all. I followed your steps as same as you have showed. though it's still on bootloop. but the bootloader only works. what should I do?
Thank you for your question. I am sorry that you are having trouble with your phone. I am unable to diagnose further without looking at the phone. it could be a completely faulty logic board, critical memory space, corrupted ROM, or bad battery. I would recommend inspecting the physical components, or trying the heat again. I wish you the best of luck.
You are right. However the RAM is an eMMC, which means that it has a contoller and flash memory in the same chip. I have found that the problem is inside the chip and not the solder. I will be rediting and reposting a new video on this, to include information on warranty replacement and refunding through LG and that this is a temp repair for data recovery.
if it isnt the solder, do you still need flux when you use this heating method? or would just hitting the chip with heat do the same thing no matter what? I was thinking about picking up a cheap rework station (to have better control of temp and air flow rate) and some flux, but if its overkill for no reason, i have a standard heat gun that i can use. what do you think?
Tony Tran I did it with a heat gun which has an air reductor so that the air comes out in a small area, the speed was too high though so I had to do it carefully. I didn't use flux. After doing it I could use the phone for at least one week, then it died again, I tried heating it again but it didn't worked.
thanks for the reply Nicolas. 2 more questions, does your heat gun have speed settings? mine has a high and low, wondering if it'll still be too strong. next, how long did you apply heat for?
Yes, I did it with low speed, it's maybe too much but I did it in an intermittent way, I can also regulate the temp on my heatgun, I don't remember how much time but remember that is a temporary fix, heat it not too much nor too little so you can recover your photos, if you live in USA you should call LG for the replacement/refunding.
i am Chinese, also a fan of google phone,i updated it to android o,but it has been in bootloop recently,so i try my best to fix this problem according to your video, but i don't know what is on the emc Chip, can u tell me OP???thanx
I am not sure I understand. If you are asking what I am putting on the chip before heating, that is ChipQuick No-clean Flux. If you are asking what the chip is, it is a dual layer chip with the eMMC RAM chip that is mounted on top of the SoC chip.
@@ahmadchaudhry sorry to hear. We are still offering the data recovery service, and please note the ICDT Tech "no fix-no pay" policy. Please call or email for more information.

Any luck with this new fix and video? Thanks for your persistence on this issue. You will be helping many people like myself caught up in this nonsense by LG.
It was working fine for two weeks. Then the boot loop started again. I repeated the procedure and it was working for another four days. Then I had enought and brought it to the repair shop. They changed the mainboard. This fix ist ok to copy all your data off but in my case not for long therme.
The only way to actually is the flash a custom rom onto the phone but it will void the warranty and you will lose all your stuff so if you still have warranty and this happens then i recommend just getting a new phone
A) why is it factory resetted when it suddenly went into bootloop - one would expect it to be set up already.... B) why fixing the emmc when everyone reported it to be a issue with the perf cluster of the 808? Smells fishy, sorry but this insults my mind...
This procedure takes advantage of thermal expansion and allows the phone to work temporarily to recover data. You are correct that the eMMC is the problem and not the RAM chip. Thank you very much for you input. I am always looking to learn and expand my knowledge and abilities
@@ICDTTechnologies not trying to troll you here but I didn't say anything about the RAM nor the EMMC, it's commonly known that the performance cluster of snapdragon 808 (or the soldering of the chip) is the problem, that's why the software-sided solution of a modded boot image works, it disables the 2 performance cores and leaves only the 4 other cores of the CPU enabled - that's why I don't understand your approach to the problem and I'm still wondering why the device is resetted if it unexpectedly felt into bootloop, the bootlooping doesn't factory reset the system, this does not make sense at all....
@@samhausmann1479 This devise did not factory reset. @@ICDTTechnologies thanks for understanding that I'm honestly interested! But if you check the end of the video you posted it clearly shows a reseted device, this welcome screen only appears on very first start up, also this SIM screen and the encryption password is also missing - this is by no means a "used" device, in fact it shows all signs of being factory resetted, hence my doubts, as this is "the proof" that the device was successfully repaired, it however shows the absolute opposite, I'm also wondering how you diagnose the issue, how you determine if EMMC, RAM, or CPU (perf cluster)? Not meant to be disrespectful but this whole video raises more questions than it actually answers, I have serious doubts on it being legit, like it being a kind of PR stunt!

ICDT Technologies i would say that it is already too late so back up my data due to the lcd did not display anything. all i can hear is the sound of battery charging. so should i proceed to this method or not? i only have the heater in my workshop right now along with electronic cleaner and some alchol swabs. is it enough for this operation?
I believe that you do need to do this. The heat is coming from the processor looping and working too hard. Please let me know how it works out. We are still offering the data recovery service if you need help.
ICDT Technologies understood, i will try to do it later & will be sure to update here if anything happens. thanks for the responses good sir!
Am having the sane issue with my nexus 6p..
How can i buy new memory chip?
The 2 most common causes for boot loop on the 6P is bad processor or critical memory (Memory storage is full). Are you able to access the bootloader?
@@ICDTTechnologies yes i can access bootloader but when i select recovery mode its goes back to google logo and keeps that repeating again
meu celular tava 6 anos parado em casa fiz e deu certo . muito obrigado parabéns
I just did this. It works! Thank you!
What was that air spray you used?? where to buy it from?
Hey I'm about to perform this on a friend's n5x would it be ok if i used some flux paste? I have some SRA rosin paste flux that I plan on using.
pnbr0014 i recommend using "no-clean" flux.
Hi ! unfortunately this saved my phone during one day and now issue came back. Could you please tell us what is the liquid you put on the chip before warming it ? Thanks.
it worked for me, very well. I hope it last. Thank you so much !
Have you seen the method in this video: "Nexus 5x bootloop fix 4pda 2017 New method: heatsink + copper" What can you say about it?
I don't know, but I will definitely look into it. at the very least I can see that the copper and thermal paste are applying pressure to the back of the chip, which can help close the contacts that are broken. I will research this and if it is a viable solution I will post a new video. Thank you.
Thank you!
Hi, did you have the chance to check it?
I have this problem, tried with a Hair dryer the phone boot for 1 hour, and then frozen again.
I tried again, but this time the phone won't turn on. Is completely dead.
Thanks!
I didn't try this new method. =/
What is the liquid that you put on the chip
I have a Nexus 6P that started boot looping. Tried reflashing all partitions (except userdata) and no luck. Cannot even get into recovery only fastboot. I tried flashing modified boot and recovery images to disable big cores also. Is there anything else like this to try?
didn't work for me..I don't have any blower or tools like described so I used hair dryer for heating and didn't worked.
why does the heat fixes it ? it seems like everyone does it and it works =/
Elijah Mayorov It is strange. We are taking advantage of thermal expansion.
By the way, please subscribe. I am moving my work space to a new location for filming and will be putting more videos out soon.
merely fixes it, only for about a month then itll screw up again
hi, would you want to fix mine
I would be happy to help. Please email us at icdttech@gmail.com and we can help get started
Where's the new perm fix video?
Watching on a Nexus 5X.
Strange that on two occasions mine bootlooped and the first one stopped after Factory Reset. The second incident got fixed by uninstalling Shareit.
Other vids recommended using a copper plate heatsink.
Any thoughts how much longer mine will last with a heatsink mod?
Aren't you supposed to remove the chip and reball ?
he said the ram is faulty. reballing does nothing
Any update on this? Is there a way to fix it permanently?
I am facing the same problem .Saw your video got little hope for my Nexus 5x to get alive. But confused, Is it a permanent fixing method or temporary? And concern that the phone you fixed after heating is working fine till date..
This is what I would call a semi-permanent fix. The customer for this device is still actively using his phone (6 days as of this reply). I would use this technique to retrieve data and maybe able to use till you are able to replace the phone.
Hmm.. Ultimately I have to change my Board..
Does anybody know know if the LG warranty is still good?
What you should do if you have this problem is, if you want to get the data off the phone, do this and get the data off it first, but if you don't care about the data on it you can skip that and follow this guide:forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/tool-bootloop-death-blod-workaround-t3819497
If you want automatic updates, follow the directions in the second thread on that post. If you are going to do this I recommend also flashing an OmniROM-based ROM for the most seamless installation of updates.
If you want increased security, you can generate your own signing keys and replace the ones in the zip with them, then transfer the updated zip to your phone.
can you do one for lenovo k8 note ?
its on bootloop .
oye amigo que es lo que le untas (colocas ensima) al chip????

hi i tried thiss and it works, but when it cool down it fails again, any suggestion?
Guillermo Cuesta Blanco I am still researching a more permanent solution. In the mean time I believe LG is still doing warranties and refunds.
ICDT Technologies do you how I can get to the warranty if it's off the time?
marcdan25 Check my newest video. There is a link to the google site to start the warranty.
i tried as in the video but nothing it started and after few minutes went down so i used another temperature cos 380 °F was not enough so i used for 1 minute 450 F with a peak of 500°F with a square tip for solder hot air. Now is working it s almost passed a day, it seems everything s ok. Anyway i putted a large piece of tape biadhesive in the rear of the chip, so it's more pressed.
Marco Esposito so does it still work?
Vladislav Matveev It works for 2/3 days then no.
U ve to remake the process in my case everytime.
Marco Esposito what I did is flash a costum kernel and boot image via fastboot, this way the phone only uses the little cluster cores and bypasses the big cluster (the effected chips). Google Nexus 5x BLOD fix
Marco Esposito I think it would work if one would completely resolder the chip and then add a copper plate as heat sink and for pressure
Temporary fix ....
I don't know of any other real solution for you.
exactly ,its only a temporary solution, works only for few minutes
Hello, I have the bootloop issue in my Nexus 5X and LG representative in my country (Dominican Republic) diagnosed my phone with a bad motherboard and told me that I have to replace it. Do you have the part number or any identifier of the motherboard LG placed in your phone?...I need to buy the motherboard but I'm not sure how to find the one without the bootloop issue. Thanks in advance.
Yup. I just got another phone for about $200. Much happier with it anyway!
I tried this. Phone came to normal working state and after 5 days again im having bootloop issues. Should i need to repeat this procedure again?
I had this happen to my phone today. I don't have the tools to really do this repair myself, although it looks like this is only a temporary fix. Do we know what the actual fix is? Where can I find a place that can do this fix? Any idea of the cost for the fix? Thanks!
Don`t you mean 380 degrees Celsius, as solder flows at 650 degrees Fahrenheit. 350 degrees fahrenheit will not flow solder...
The flux can be found on Amazon.
smile.amazon.com/ChipQuik-SMD-291-Clean-Syringe-Nozzle/dp/B00CM2A97S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1500874596&sr=8-5&keywords=no+clean+flux
The machine is called a hot air rework station. You can use a budget hot air station, but if you only have a heat gun, use a laser thermometer. And if you want to isolate the chip, I would use kapton tape. It has a very high resistance to heat.
I can't thank you enough!
I tried with a heat gun and the phone was up for 7h. =/
Any ideas?
is that Scaling powder?
吴灏葱 I think you may be talking about the small tin on the base of my microscope. That is actually tinning paste to clean and care for my soldering iron tips.

Thanks for the very informative video. Have you managed to try replacing the eMMC chip yet?
southpaw the chips are due in tgis week. If its successful, I will post a new video immediately upon completion. I already have the phone to be repaired.
looking forward for it
Fantastic. I really look forward to hearing the results. Would it be possible to film the entire replacement process?
Sadly it's just a temporary fix like this. I had to reball the chip and get all the old bad solder out to completely alleviate the issue.
reballing work ?
Can I send in to fix my 5x, and how much is $, thx
We are happy to help. Please contact me at icdttech@gmail.com
How the heck did you get it open?
The back cover is difficult. You can just use your hand very gently or us a plastic safe open tool to work the clasps loose on the sides. I start opening from the charging port. I hope this helps.
Use the corner of an expired plastic (credit) card if you don't have a plastic tool for this. Definitely start from the charging port or the SIM card slot with the tray removed.
we can use this method for nexus 6p
I'm from india...
Thankx you soo much. It works perfectly 100000%.
But not sure is it a permanent fix or temporary fix.
But overall thankx again.
Man , is this work for Nexus 6p bootloop
I did this for one of mu friend..it worked initially but after around 1 day the issue started again..can you let me know what needs to be done here
Thank you for posting.
ICDT Technologies thank you for your time...i tried but after a while it goes into bootloop again..i tried heating 380-400 but it works for a day or so
Buy an iPhone
Do it once to get it booting temporarily and enable "OEM unlocking" in developer settings (and backup any data), then apply the better software solution from Xda to work around the bad chip: forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/untested-nexus-5x-bootloop-death-fix-t3641199
J Peterman this actually fixed my device. Thanks a lot! But the only problem is that it cannot multi task like before and the phone is a bit slow when opening the camera
how to communicate with LG and GOOGLE?
hey, thanks first of all.
What you're heating is the "Samsung K3QF3F30BM-QGCF 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM", not the eMMC
Please subscribe, more videos are coming this week. 谢谢
the first answer is what i wanna ,thanx dude, but i heat it up,it still has the bootloop problem, how can i solve it
What was that in the test that you put on this processor and what kind of blower do you use from how much cotton ???
I have one that is bootlooped so I'm going to try this
If you want to try the replacement technique of the chip I’d volunteer my phone.

After heating for 1min my phone complete dead no screen light totally dead
This belonged to a French doctor who reported that all of his data was recovered successfully by this procedure and that the device functioned for 3 weeks after the recovery. We also offer the 4 core kernel installation. I know you are not trolling and I grately appreciate your comments.
Not meant to be disrespectful but this whole video raises more questions than it actually answers, I have serious doubts on it being legit, like it being a kind of PR stunt!
works for 2 days then no go
