  • This BBC documentary, made in 1977, shows the daily life in the main monastery of Ajaan Chah, Wat Pah Pong in Ubon Rachathani, Thailand.
Chah Subhaddo (Thai: ชา สุภัทโท, known in English as Ajahn Chah, occasionally with honorific titles Luang Por and Phra) also known by his honorific name "Phra Bodhiñāṇathera" (Thai: พระโพธิญาณเถร,[1] Chao Khun Bodhinyana Thera;[2] 17 June 1918 - 16 January 1992[3]) was a Thai Buddhist monk. He was an influential teacher of the Buddhadhamma and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition.
Respected and loved in his own country as a man of great wisdom, he was also instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West. Beginning in 1979 with the founding of Cittaviveka (commonly known as Chithurst Buddhist Monastery)[4] in the United Kingdom, the Forest Tradition of Ajahn Chah has spread throughout Europe, the United States and the British Commonwealth. The dhamma talks of Ajahn Chah have been recorded, transcribed and translated into several languages.

I'm was born in a Sunni Muslim ☪️ family but I was always curious about the deep and complex questions of the life like existence, meaning, suffering cause..etc. & I couldn't find the answers but kinda fascinated and attracted to the Buddha ever since I was a kid and after reading about thr Nikāyas and Therāvada Buddhism, it changed my life and it means a lot that I found the Noble Buddha's Dhamma!

May you attain the supreme bliss of nibbhana.... Realizing the true nature of the exsistence... The danger of gratification and the fact that u are a slave of the mind filled with ignorance and how it drives u through this long and scary sansaric journey , let in go and be free from the delusion ....where you will find the reall freedom and true happiness.. Free from delusion, lust and desire. Mind is like a cup with a hole. But we believe that we can fill it because of our ignorance . The result is becoming a prisoner in the sansara… may the triple gems bless u !

As you practice , living in the moment, you realise we repeat same old, thought patterns, emotions, etc which manifests on our consciousness. Then you experience them as constituent parts, elements, which are experiential, in ten ways Buddha described. Then arise, exist and cease. This core principles of impermanence run through everything. One understand by not holding onto passing phenomena, one creates suffering, not letting things exist in their natural way of arising, passing, not me or mine. Then the big one the pamada, sense delay, the delusion of senses, including consciousness. Nothing is real time, living even though it feels that way. Everything is already passed due to sense delay of passage to brain from where it arises, a mere shadow on the consciousness we make so much a fuss about, to own, as me and mine. Life is so easy, if one lives according to this truth of reality, lightly holding. Understand as things are born, formed, they die, when we per eive it's already dead, nothing to make a fuss about. The river has already run passed you when it is seen. Understand this, then life is easy, no wars, inside, outside, as there is noone or nothing to possess, really.

Why is there a frame within the frame?

The original video is not in a wide format, but a more squarish 4:3. So watching it on modern screens will leave black, empty space around the video. So whoever did this decided it would look better than to just leave the borders black. It doesn't. It works well on short modern clips filmed vertically, but not on a documentary.

@@bojcio I'm not of the camp that's bothered by presenting 4:3 as is within our 16:9 universe lol

if our body really belonged to us then it would obey our commands, but if we say don't get old or refuse you to get sick, does it obey us? no, it takes no notice,
we only rent this house (body) we don't own it, if we think the body belongs to us, when we have to leave it to die then we suffer, in reality there is no such thing as a self

    • @sanyutha

True, not even the mind has a self. It is a result of 5 aggregates. Our ignorance thinks that there is a self…
