I use 3% added to my oils in every single batch. Mainly because for years I used the heat transfer method so lye water too hot to add it to. I won’t soap without it! ❤
From your videos I learned about using it in cp, feels like the camera don’t quite demonstrate the enormous difference it makes and feels like 😊 thank you so very much for taking the time to go more in depth on the subject of a single ingredient, it’s much appreciated, 🙏 from Montreal, Canada xx
When i first made soap i didnt know about SL so i had to wait several days for an incredibly soft loaf. Now, even if I forget, I add it to which ever phase I've got going it still works great! I can't do without it and it cures harder and faster too!
I make HP soaps and I do use Sodium Lactate but in my lye water. I mix distilled water with silk, 1T pure cane sugar and 1T Sodium Lactate - mix then I add my lye and continue to mix. This is for a 3# loaf of soap.
I use it by weight. So if it’s a small batch I only use it at 1-1.5 % of my oils. For my bigger batches I use it to 3%. When I am using my master batched lye I add it right after I pour my lye mixture in my water pitcher. When using fresh lye I add it once my lye has cooled. Sometimes I forget and add it straight into my soap and mix really well😊
What about citric acid? Does it make the soap harder? Of course we need to adjust sodium hydroxide amount for it.. but what's the benefits of using it?
I used 1 tsp per pound, but my soap is soft like the one you showed without sodium lactate. Could you tell me what I did wrong? How do I make my soap hard so that it does not get mis-sharpened when I unmold it? Thanks!
@@bramble-berry thank you so much. I'll try 3 days. 2 days was still soft. Thank you for all you do in teaching us. Do you have a course on how to start a soap & skincare business? I would love to do it.

6-7 days to unmold in the old days?? That’s a new one. Never knew soap to take longer than 36 hours max. Regardless, sodium lactate is good stuff and I presently use brambleberry’s regularly in most of my soaps.

I don't make soap but I use sodium lactate in most of my skincare products; moisturizers, serums, and foot creams.

I love your video's.
I’m a fan of sodium lactate🎉
Thank you for this info!
I always add it to my oils and not my lye water. Is there any concerns with doing that? 1 tsp per pounds of oils. No issues.
That should be totally fine too :)
I used glycerine to make a botanical extract at home (pomegranate glycerite) .. is it possible to use sodium lactate for the same purpose ?
We would suggest Fractionated Coconut Oil instead of sodium lactate to use as a base for your extract.
What about citric acid? Does it make the soap harder? Of course we need to adjust sodium hydroxide amount for it.. but what's the benefits of using it?
Citric acid can help improve the soap's lather. Sodium lactate is perfect for making harder soap bars that unmold easier.
@@bramble-berrydoes citric acid also help preserve the fresh ingredients added?
I unmould in 3-4 hours without sodium lactate. Just water discount and 0.5% salt dissolved in the water before adding lye.
Can you make a video on the most simple home dame soap clear soap base?@brambleberry
😢😢😢 Anne Marie has a cold
I hope you feel better ❤❤❤

It many need to harden in the mold for a bit longer, we like to wait 2-3 days before unmolding.

I put my sodium lactate in my lye water when it cools
hello what's the difference if you add it in your oils instead of adding it to your lye water solution?
Nothing, you can add it to which ever phase, it will still work fine.
Give receipe of 1 kg soap bar with sodium lactate
All of our recipes with sodium lactate are available here: www.brambleberry.com/search?q=sodium%20lactate&search_type=Projects
Any reason or ingredients added to my soap that would make me not want to use sodium lactate?
Sodium lactate behaves well in nearly all cold process recipes :)

I just pour it into cooled lye, I don’t measure it anymore

They use a lot of water in their recipes.
