Absolutely. As much as I love the Earthbound soundtrack for how weird and memorable it is, I find the Mother 3 soundtrack more enjoyable as a whole to listen to outside the game

Its perfect, no doubt in part due to the age I heard it at, but its just one of those pieces of music that have a profound effect you, I don't actively seek out listening to it, don't have it on heavy rotation in playlists (admittedly due to its obscurity and not having any versions on spotify) but when I do come across it, it brings me a smile and everything feels right in the world, if indeed a bit sad, I think a lot of Earthbound's best pieces have this quality, Your sanctuary/A flash of memory and Dr Andonauts Lab in particular, they are easing, comfortable, but melancholy, as if saying "you can rest now, but the world is still in peril and you will have to go out again and do what needs to be done..." the whole game is beautiful.
The Mother 3 OST (Earthbound is Mother 2 in Japan) is probably even better, even if it’s held back by some really obvious and loud noise caused by compression so it could fit on the gameboy

Patiently awaiting the day we get a Wind Waker OST reaction, I love those songs so much, especially the main theme that plays during the credits, 10 minutes of bliss imo.
The SNES's sound hardware was (as far as I know) pure PCM, and could be used either for sample playback or wavetable synthesis. People can and did use recordings of real acoustic instruments in SNES music (see: music in this very game). However, given the limited storage, low fidelity and budget of most games they did use synthesized waveforms most of the time.
Some of the chat's suggestions for soundtracks to listen to were ones I would be absolutely ecstatic to see his reaction to, like the soundtracks for OFF, Sonic CD (specifically the Japanese/European version), The Binding of Isaac, and more...
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the _Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective_ soundtrack. It's composed by Masakazu Sugimori, who did the soundtrack of the original _Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney_ (which you already covered!) as well as several other classics.
Some tracks are great, but for the most part are very... how do i say this, 8-bit like? And for no reason too I mean, can't ask all DS music to sound like Advance Wars Days of Ruin, but you can't say that's high quality when you have things like the Mario&Luigi OSTs
@@rompevuevitos222 Yeah, it's pretty low res. It's such a crime, those songs would be something else with just a bit more fidelity. It's still worth a listen and analysis though.
If you enjoyed the Earthbound OST then I highly recommend checking the Lisa the Painful soundtrack, is an Earthbound-inspired game with a very unique music style.
I would love to see your reaction to the EVERHOOD soundtrack. I'm kinda shocked that it hasn't been requested more. It's a game like Undertale and Earthbould, but entirely revolves around the music. The combat literally involves you dodging the music notes of the battle theme.
Putting my bid in for Mother 3 as well. Lisa would be cool too eventually but Mother 3 is the more natural follow up here, and it's a great soundtrack too.
Yeah, I see lots of comments for Lisa the painful, and I agree with that one too. Honestly, a whole library of streams could be dedicated to the indies inspired by Earthbound. There are a lot, and there are definitely some gems.
One thing I gotta point out, this dude radiates positivity through body language and expressions when new tracks start. Put me in a better mood this morning!
I absolutely loved your reaction to Franky! You are correct! That song was definitely inspired from Johnny B Goode! Loved this game's ost for that very fact!
I love Earthbound and its music! Watching you enjoy is a cool, but moreover, your comments on the music and sounds make me realize there was even more awesomeness in the OST! Great music became even better! THANKS!
Always like to see people hear this soundtrack for the first time. This is one of the most unique and eclectic music made for an SNES game and is one of my all time favorites.
Nice to see you react to this. Earthbound is my favorite game of all time and it's ost is one of my favourites. It's really impressive what they manged to do with such limited hardware.
Love seeing a lot of these that you've put out, especially games I hold very dear. Are you familiar with Chrono Trigger's OST already? The composer for that also helped put out an official Acid Jazz cover album (Named "The Brink of Time") for it and wonder if that would be something you'd look at or if that would be too risky in terms of copyright. And if you're not familiar with Chrono Trigger's OST as it is, that one is also just absolutely fantastic, haha Edit: Having finished off the VOD on this now, you picked basically the PERFECT time to choose to break and finish off later thematically. The next to final song you listened to plays over what is effectively the "Halfway through the game" recap and interlude.
In a way I feel very attached to the music of Earthbound, it's catchy, and good, but I would love to see your reaction to the music of Mother 3, I feel like it's shocking and I love it more
it's crazy how good this soundtrack sounds for something as technically limited as the SNES. absolutely love this game and its soundtrack I agree that you should hear the poor sequel to this game that was never localized called mother 3.
@48:02 Clearly everyone forgot the scene in Back to the Future 2 where Marty McFly plays Johnny B Good, and Chuck Berry's cousin hears it and has him listen to it on the phone.
Undertale was mainly inspired by this and Touhou and it really shines through well. Earthbound has such a good soundtrack, can’t wait for the Touhou 6 reaction
fun fact: a lot of the music in this game (mother 2) are remixes from mother 1 music. The sunrise theme is the opening measure from Polyanna (the main overworld theme from mother 1) the "buy somethin will ya" is a direct remix from the shop theme from mother 1 Snow Wood is a remaster of Snowman from mother 1 the sanctuary guardian battle theme is a heavily remixed version of the battle theme 02 from mother 1, even including the opening durge.
Gonna make some comments on this video as I get through it with timestamps 5:20 Keiichi Suzuki said in an interview once that Weather Report was a big influence on the soundtrack! 22:02 this whistling sound shows up in the soundtrack quite a bit. I have reason to believe Hip Tanaka might have used the same midi data and repeated it on multiple tracks, sometimes with different instruments
Just so you know, I have a video file showing a visual spectrograph of the entire earthbound OST, with x axis being real time, y axis being pitch, red being right and blue being left, while white is mono. My point is, some parts here look absolutely beautiful.
whatever song starts at 44:15, i can hear a similarity in the looping sound in the back to the main theme of the arcade game Xevious. Can't tell if it's a coincidence or not since earthbound loves sampling from odd places.
I watched this live as I wrote the paper for my Technical Writing class. I learned a new song from watching this (Let's Go Crazy by Prince) which is great. It's one of those songs I heard when I was very little but never knew the name of until now
I feel embarrassed that chat was all saying "Master Belch easiest fight in the game!". When I first beat this game when I was 11-ish, I didn't make the connection between Belch and the Fly Honey and kept challenging him and losing. I power-leveled with the Fobbies (Foppies? I forget which one they were) with Paula spamming PSI Fire Beta, thinking I wasn't strong enough, until I got PSI Flash B (I forget if Ness or Paula gets it). Oddly enough, the auto-kill effect on Flash works on Belch, even without the Fly Honey. Needless to say, for a WHILE afterward, I powered through the game because I was so grossly over-leveled. Also spent the rest of the game not knowing what I was supposed to do with that Jar of Fly Honey and I think it just sat useless in my inventory for a LONG time.
had a very similar experience too with master belch Although I wasn't very lucky with getting the flash kill, that "aha!" moment came to me muuuuuuch much later when I was messing with escargo express when I remembered i had the jar to begin with the cluelessness I've had with playing this game is something i honestly hold dearly.
I have to recommend you check out the OST for Golden Sun/Golden Sun 2 on the GBA, if you’re not familiar with it already. The composer for that OST was also the composer for the Dark Souls series if that helps my suggestion at all
Bed and Breakfast's opening bar is lifted straight from "Good Morning" by The Beatles, I was surprised hearing it when listening through Sgt. Pepper's for the first time
54:35 It makes sense that this OST would remind you of Undertale, considering that UT's creator, Toby Fox, lists Earthbound as a significant inspiration for his work :P In fact, the famous song Megalovania first appeared in an Earthbound Romhack Toby created titled "The Halloween Hack", as the theme for the final boss fight. 56:07 So, the overarching MacGuffin Quest of the game has you trekking around in search of places with a particular "resonance" to them, where the protagonist will pick up on that "resonance" and add it to a Key Item in the party's inventory, which will convert it into part of a melody. Those 8 jingles you hear are actually a single song, divided into 8 parts!
Megalo strike back was also made by toby, right? Bc i hear the same leitmotif megalo strike back has at the beginning, i hear it in gygas attack (part 2) I also see some themes called "battle against a" Yeah... sure that name inspired too But i dunno a lot anyway, so, dont take too seriously what i say XD And as i have good rythm, my music knowledge is limited nowadays, im no expert at all, only a young man enjoying life and videos like this one
A note about the SNES sound chip. One thing that set the SNES apart from contemporary consoles is it's musical capabilities. Many other consoles had chips like the SID, with a limited number of channels with dedicated waveforms per channel. The SNES on the other hand is capable of real-time FM synthesis. The spc700 chip is its own small microprocessor which runs independent from the main CPU and allows the music programmers to write their own music format and run an interpreter for that format on the spc700 itself. It's quite an interesting system, and gave the SNES some very powerful music synthesis capabilities. Hell, it could even play back digitized speech at reasonably high quality.
Can’t wait to see your reaction to the rest of the ost. Also check out the Mother 3 OST. It’s the sequel to earthbound and it’s got a much more musical soundtrack as opposed to some of the atmospheric stuff in earthbound. Loved the video and can’t wait to see more.
I would highly recommend the OST for Hyper Light Drifter. It’s really atmospheric with a great mix of traditional instrumentation and chiptune/synth. It’s absolutely amazing.
It’s not mentioned too much, but the OST to Secret of Evermore (Squaresoft ‘95) is my favourite soundtrack of all time. It was written by an young Jeremy Soule.
I owned a copy of Earthbound as a kid back in the 90’s but it was only a few months ago when I learned from another video of the sample from Monty Python’s Flying Circus in the ‘Your name please’ track. Swear on my life I never heard it there until that point. Almost embarrassed because I love Monty Python lol.
Thanks for reacting to this. Earthbound is my favorite video game OST’s besides Sonic CD (Japanese), Goldeneye 007, Mario Kart Wii, Silver Surfer, and Portal 2.
I’ve been binging your reactions, love them! Two game OSTs I really recommend listening to are “Splatoon 2” and “Unrailed!”, Splatoon has an extremely unique soundtrack and Unrailed is just a joy to listen to.
If you're looking for more OSTs to react to, I have a few ideas! Oneshot, Donkey Kong Country 2, or ARK: Survival Evolved (especially the Aberration DLC, that one's amazing!)

And for no reason too
I mean, can't ask all DS music to sound like Advance Wars Days of Ruin, but you can't say that's high quality when you have things like the Mario&Luigi OSTs
@@rompevuevitos222 Yeah, it's pretty low res. It's such a crime, those songs would be something else with just a bit more fidelity. It's still worth a listen and analysis though.
This was a joy to hear someone's reaction to one of my favourite game soundtracks of all time. Can't wait for part 2!
You just made my whole week, finding out that guys like you do these!
If you enjoyed the Earthbound OST then I highly recommend checking the Lisa the Painful soundtrack, is an Earthbound-inspired game with a very unique music style.
Unique indeed, it’s got some genuine bangers, songs so weird you can’t help but laugh, and terrifying things too.
@@zackozga2411 Exactly, like Highway King.
I would love to see your reaction to the EVERHOOD soundtrack. I'm kinda shocked that it hasn't been requested more. It's a game like Undertale and Earthbould, but entirely revolves around the music. The combat literally involves you dodging the music notes of the battle theme.
Most people voting just want an excuse to talk about their game, they usually don't necessarily care about the OST
Everhood is stellar, I hope that gets noticed along with No Straight Roads, both feature similar " Enemies attack to the music" gameplay
Woohoo im playing this game rn and the OST is amazing, im glad you reacted to it‼️
I had a visceral reaction when you started singing “I Gotta Feeling” at the beginning of Boy Meets Girl.
Interesting fact for you. Earthbound used 1/3 of the 24 megabytes of storage on the soundtrack.
It's really impressive what they manged to do with such limited hardware.
this video is just a guy vibin' to earthbound music and i love it so much.
44:59 he totally rocked Frank's theme
I think the Mother (Japanese name for the series) vocal album is pretty good too and worth a listen for anyone that likes Earthbound's music.
23:30 Otherworldy Foe is one of my favorite themes of all time, I love this reaction lol
That is the scariest thumbnail I have ever seen in my entire life
Love seeing a lot of these that you've put out, especially games I hold very dear.
Are you familiar with Chrono Trigger's OST already? The composer for that also helped put out an official Acid Jazz cover album (Named "The Brink of Time") for it and wonder if that would be something you'd look at or if that would be too risky in terms of copyright.
And if you're not familiar with Chrono Trigger's OST as it is, that one is also just absolutely fantastic, haha
Edit: Having finished off the VOD on this now, you picked basically the PERFECT time to choose to break and finish off later thematically. The next to final song you listened to plays over what is effectively the "Halfway through the game" recap and interlude.
I'm amazed that you can pick out all the notes and play it back after just a couple loops! Sick ear my man, love your reacts!
In a way I feel very attached to the music of Earthbound, it's catchy, and good, but I would love to see your reaction to the music of Mother 3, I feel like it's shocking and I love it more
it's crazy how good this soundtrack sounds for something as technically limited as the SNES.
absolutely love this game and its soundtrack
I agree that you should hear the poor sequel to this game that was never localized called mother 3.
I've been learning recently that limitations are actually extremely inspiring. When you have too many options it's so easy to get lost.
@48:02
Clearly everyone forgot the scene in Back to the Future 2 where Marty McFly plays Johnny B Good, and Chuck Berry's cousin hears it and has him listen to it on the phone.
I have told RUclips to not show me this video 5 times, and it keeps coming back, like a sleep paralysis demon haunting me.
One step closer to Mother 3... It's so good!
omg i hope he does mother 3 next
i love earthbound music but mother 3 sounds more like . music
Earthbound is so artistic i cant help but adore it
Mother 3 may be objectively better but idk maybe im biased with earthbound
Undertale was mainly inspired by this and Touhou and it really shines through well. Earthbound has such a good soundtrack, can’t wait for the Touhou 6 reaction
So glad I discovered this channel. The past couple days have been filled with gamin nostalgia thanks to you. About to fire up the old emulator
you’d never guess that the music titled Franky was a battle theme for a gang boss that swings knives at a little kid.
fun fact: a lot of the music in this game (mother 2) are remixes from mother 1 music.
The sunrise theme is the opening measure from Polyanna (the main overworld theme from mother 1)
the "buy somethin will ya" is a direct remix from the shop theme from mother 1
Snow Wood is a remaster of Snowman from mother 1
the sanctuary guardian battle theme is a heavily remixed version of the battle theme 02 from mother 1, even including the opening durge.
Gonna make some comments on this video as I get through it with timestamps
5:20 Keiichi Suzuki said in an interview once that Weather Report was a big influence on the soundtrack!
22:02 this whistling sound shows up in the soundtrack quite a bit. I have reason to believe Hip Tanaka might have used the same midi data and repeated it on multiple tracks, sometimes with different instruments
One of the best soundtracks in gaming history.
For some reason there's not a lot of comments like this , but great analysis! Very enjoyable to watch and also very infromative!
MOTHER THREE love this soundtrack so much
Just so you know, I have a video file showing a visual spectrograph of the entire earthbound OST, with x axis being real time, y axis being pitch, red being right and blue being left, while white is mono. My point is, some parts here look absolutely beautiful.
He's gonna love the binding of isaac.
whatever song starts at 44:15, i can hear a similarity in the looping sound in the back to the main theme of the arcade game Xevious. Can't tell if it's a coincidence or not since earthbound loves sampling from odd places.
Definitely on purpose, it plays in an arcade
Arcade theme
I watched this live as I wrote the paper for my Technical Writing class. I learned a new song from watching this (Let's Go Crazy by Prince) which is great. It's one of those songs I heard when I was very little but never knew the name of until now
Bro that smile is infectious thx for the video :)
1:33:49 I believe the song you’re thinking of is “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who… from the same album!
Also spent the rest of the game not knowing what I was supposed to do with that Jar of Fly Honey and I think it just sat useless in my inventory for a LONG time.
had a very similar experience too with master belch
Although I wasn't very lucky with getting the flash kill, that "aha!" moment came to me muuuuuuch much later when I was messing with escargo express when I remembered i had the jar to begin with
the cluelessness I've had with playing this game is something i honestly hold dearly.
Love it! Hope we also get Mother 3 :D
If you saw the runaway five in the game you'd notice they're literally just the blues brothers. and their music is all just that.
I have to recommend you check out the OST for Golden Sun/Golden Sun 2 on the GBA, if you’re not familiar with it already. The composer for that OST was also the composer for the Dark Souls series if that helps my suggestion at all
I love this game soundtrack, it sounds so unique and quirky they’re not many like it.
Some of the best bass face I've ever seen. Great video man 😄
this man have a nicest smile ever
Bc i hear the same leitmotif megalo strike back has at the beginning, i hear it in gygas attack (part 2)
I also see some themes called "battle against a"
Yeah... sure that name inspired too
But i dunno a lot anyway, so, dont take too seriously what i say XD
And as i have good rythm, my music knowledge is limited nowadays, im no expert at all, only a young man enjoying life and videos like this one
58:59
I hate but also love how his first reaction to this song was black eyed peas
21:45 - Onett Night song reminds me alot of Brian Eno 's "Ambient 4 - On Land"
fun that the arcade theme has sound effects from xevious in it
urgent and imperative that you give the Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 OST a listen. Live orchestra/band! good stuff as always man
I love your expressions so much, dude
I would highly recommend the OST for Hyper Light Drifter. It’s really atmospheric with a great mix of traditional instrumentation and chiptune/synth. It’s absolutely amazing.
Yeah I'd definitely recommend the mother 3 soundtack. It's so good
This is definitely one of the videos on RUclips.
Toby Fox must have been also inspired by the Mother 3 soundtrack, considering how influential Mother 3 was to Undertale theme-wise.
It arrived!!! An exclusive!!
The earthbound/mother 2 soundtrack touches me in ways I can't explain
Outer wilds, zelda and earthbound is all i need
"Buy Something, Will Ya" is basically an arrangement of Dallas Rag.
It’s not mentioned too much, but the OST to Secret of Evermore (Squaresoft ‘95) is my favourite soundtrack of all time. It was written by an young Jeremy Soule.
I loveee how experimental and funky this OST is just makes me so happy. SNES for life ❤️❤️❤️
PLOK SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING
Vouch
@@LolaTheGardevoir (:
I'd second this with the addition of Splatoon 1
there's a few tracks in there that were exclusive to that game
If you're looking for more OSTs to react to, I have a few ideas! Oneshot, Donkey Kong Country 2, or ARK: Survival Evolved (especially the Aberration DLC, that one's amazing!)
Donkey kong country 2 has one of the best osts I have ever heard. It actually blew me away
I like how his reaction to many of these is the same reaction we had when we heard some of these for the first time.
Listening to Mother 3's OST will make you a smarter, nicer, and more attracting person.
