@Dr. Anthony "Beagle-Bully" Fauci god bless. I'm always paranoid I'll accidentally delete a single file that just so happens to be the one I want to lose the least. Hahaha
as "boring" as it is this info is gold, this is just as important as having a clean physical space to work in. I mean you can get by with shitty organization but, it will catch up to you. Its also just satisfying to jump into the past so easily
if you're lazy and will not do this by default, make yourself a batch script that prompts for a project name when opened and automatically creates the basic folder structure. it will take you 10 minutes to do this, lasts forever, and it will make the best path the easiest path. if you have no clue how to do this, take 15 seconds to write a prompt for chat gpt and it will do it for you. it is very simple

Basically, just use Chat GPT instead of your brain and you are all good to go.
Simpler to just create the structure and call the root folder 'zzz_project_folder_template' or something like this, then just copy/paste and rename it each time.
I was using Adobe for a while but I had to opt out cuz if the subscription. If I was allowed to just purchase the program I'd pay a unreasonable amount for it but cuz of the subscription I use alternatives.
The "Adobe crash" to "Opening up the wrong recent revision of a project" trap window is absolutely real and has brought too much suffering into this world.
hierarchical work folders, zettelkasten study folders, organize all your knowledge, this is the basis of all important businesses (and intelligence agencies); Dewey's decimal system is connected to the the card catalogue system, and the birth of computing and alchemical universal languages.
The most impressive thing to me is how far back you are able to pull the working files from certain projects. I’ve worked at production companies that are not this organised.
This is awesome. Bookmarking for future projects. I'm not Terribly sloppy with file management but just one or two misplaced files and a project is ruined when you try to return to it.
Best practice file naming from my experience is... ProjectCode_ProjectName_Platform_AspectRatio_Duration_Codec_Audio_Branded/Clean Example: PROJ037_WorldPeace_Episode01_RUclips_16x9_18m20s_H264_Audio_Branded In some cases you may want to add the frame rate or exact pixel dimensions if it's an atypical specification. Try to avoid using the container and use the codec instead so no weirdly wrapped files go unnoticed. Getting into the habit of this makes handling large batches of files much easier since you have all the key information shown in the file names.
No need to save different versions manually win #1 #2 etc if you are saving to google drive. It keeps old versions of files automatically. Other cloud platforms probably do the same, but I don't know.
Why dont you also use version control? Means you dont corrupt your project and dont have to make r1 r2 postfixes on your output files, if you even saved them to the version control at all
just learn basics of git at this point. sam would benefit from hiring a zoomer poindexter that would manage their database. you dont really need more from git than basics of branching, checking out, and merging for project like these. i know sam and his minions are very likely to deal with binary files or massive files (LFS helps here afair) while creating their art, but i think its still better than this makeshift system that sam introduced to look organized.

This is pretty standard file management for design/creative work. He probably picked this up at RISD
I think he's mentioned that he picked this up at some soul crushing graphic design work he was doing for some sports company.
yea the iterative saving thing is great for music production too. i like his "r1, r2" labeling format, i might start using that.
