100% same thought. The SSRI has been long considered the equivalent of the lobotomy for its on-label use efficacy. No one really even subscribes to the "chemical imbalance" theory of depression anymore. Even if there was good evidence that they work, which there isn't, the side-effect profile is as bad or worse as the symptoms they purport to alleviate.
Nobody talking about the 30 year SSRI study that proved it doesn’t have anything to do with depression and it’s basically a fucking random guess at what it’s doing!
You don’t understand scientific literature if you think a single study has any weight at all. You need thousands of replicable studies and meta analyses. But what do I know. I’m only a scientist.
SSRIs dramatically improved my anxiety, the reason they are controversial isnt because they dont work its because of the side effects like killing sex drive
Ssri’s basically are no different to placebo in positive effects on anxiety or depression. The effects only last as long as you take the medication which should not be forever as they increase your risk of dying by just about everything. They also increase the risk of relapse of depression compared to those who took a placebo.
ssri gave me brain injury i still suffer from 12yrs later. There's a forum full of thousands of others suffered the same injury. They change the architecture of the brain in ways that for many doesn't heal so you wind up with something called "protracted withdrawal syndrome". You live with anti depressant withdrawal symptoms for years. Suicide for many is prefered.
I've heard about long-term withdrawals lasting for months, but years... Definitely something to keep in mind, I was considering fluvoxamine at a certain point, but I guess I will reconsider.
Hopping directly on SSRI because of the small anxiety incidents he mentioned is INSANE. I have dealt with anxiety so bad that it would keep me up for 2-3 days straight because the sound of my heart pounding would keep me awake. I did low doses of benzo for a while then reduced and stopped as soon as I can, as I understand these medecines are just a crutch to help you live while figuring out a real way to deal with the problem . I eventually managed to get entirely rid of my anxiety through just working out very hard almost every day and generally living a more healthy life.
This is horrible... People are scared of SSRI's and they should be, there's other solutions for anxiety, hell we've already been through the study that proves that physical activity is more effective than anti-depressives. Maybe SSRIs can help with that, I don't know. But my impression is that it's more for people who feel fear at a random place or time, and for no real reason.
I took an SSRI to help with depression, anxiety, and addiction. It helped a lot actually to stabilize my life. Really just blunts everything and makes you kinda numb.
