- I head out into open water to tackle some pelagic muskies with my good friend, and professional guide, Captain Andy Schiera of Veteran Guide Service. We get on an amazing open water bite with some heavily weighted bucktails and some 12" Posseidon swim baits from Chaos Tackle. I was amazed at the fish we caught and how many of these cisco eating musky we saw!

Fisheries scientist here. The faster you stop touching a fish after you catch it the better it will be (there may be some exceptions to that, but on the whole this is true). If the fish thrashes as you’re moving to put it back, better to just work with that momentum and toss it in, letting it swim off. If it has that much vim and vigour to launch itself out of your hands, it’s going to be fine.
I am an advocate for simply placing the fish back in the water and letting go. No need to hold it, swish it around, etc. Do that only if the fish seems to be struggling to gain equilibrium (a bad sign…), but if it’s upright just stop touching it.
12:03 made me jump lol everytime they leave the water gets the blood going
@evenharn1672 It's always so exciting!
Just an insane day, congrats on a killer day guys!
@MattVavrochFishing Thank you sir!
Super crazy footage Brian! Awesome to watch!
@dirkvannieuwenhove3893 Thank you so much, as always, for watching my friend!
Musky frenzy!!!
@paulziebell2479 It was so cool!!
Soooo cool!!
@KorgathVanskapt Thanks!
Anyone who freaks out about throwing fish in the water has simply never handled one.
@bannedagain1483 Exactly 💯.
“Fish for bait.” Exactly.
@christophereric1407 😂😂
Man you're crushing it this season. Nice work on the vid too!
@sgangling Thanks Sam! You seem to be having a pretty good season yourself!
Top video Brian, what a year for you so far 👍
@kof-fie Thank you so much! It's been really fun so far!
Good video as always. Fished With Andy before need to get out with him again soon! Get Em son!
@babecampbell1257 Thank you sir! I really do appreciate it!
Crazy video man!
@skott1800 Thank you!
you are my new favorite fishing youtube channel. Awesome video again, keep it going!
@leiska4100 Thank you so much for saying so! I really appreciate it!
@@AnglingAnarchykeep it going💪
AWSOME
Been waiting for this video
@jtw4744 Hopefully, it was worth the wait!
It was. And throwing that second fish back is always the thing to do, not wrestling it on the bump board.
Sweet!!!
@DrewMatusek It was so awesome!
Very nice Brian.
@mitchellgenz1373 Thank you sir!
Very cool
@eyre1720 Thank you sir!
This is not a normal musky day!! Wow!
@nathanielsnyder1511 It was a special day for sure!
That's the best release. Don't hang on trying to control the fish. Let it fall in the water and use your trolling motor to go back to her if you need to revive it. I know it's different if it's windy and waves.
@pugman3174 Absolutely! Better to fall in the water than the boat! Thanks so much for watching!
Andrew is a good guy
@robbiehenderson8955 He's a fantastic human being, and one hell of a musky fisherman!
@@AnglingAnarchy yes he is
Insane bite window wowza
@heinrichbier4759 It was so cool to be a part of it!
Suspended open water seems to be the final frontier in muskie fishing. I'm a bit surprised by all the pleasure boats activity and the fish still willing to strike.
Nice fish Brian. 😊
@thelonesomefisherman7425 It's one of those techniques that I think everyone knows they should try, but very few actually do! Thank you so much for watching!
@@AnglingAnarchy yeah, I never tried it before, either.
Awesome channel & video,
Been a subscriber for 2 years or more.
I started to fish in deep water and have not had any success yet.. my biggest problem (I think) in my reservoirs it seems that there are PiLES of bait scattered throughout the water column so the skis have tons to choose from..
Can you tell how much bait was around?
Where you off away from the main bait pockets?
@baddffish4969 Thank you, u appreciate it! I really couldn't tell how much bait was around, but I'd say definitely work those outer edges away from the main pockets.
Looks like lake Geneva I fish that for bass in tournaments
sick
Any more info on those bucktails with the trailer blade?
@mpbarga They were custom ones that Andy built from spare parts. Built a bit heavier, about 6 oz with the small spinner tail off the back hook. 10/9 stagger blades.
How deep are you fishing?
@DkamFishing 40-45 feet.
@@AnglingAnarchy you guys let the bucktails sink to about 20-25ft before you start your retrieve?
@DkamFishing Yeah, about that I'd say.
Just curious, what was the water depth roughly?
@southern_rivers We were in about 40 ft of water.
How do you weight your bucktails.
@alanbuvelot831 I just use a digital kitchen scale.
If people were as crazy about fish care as they let on they'd be using barbless singles. Or not fishing at all.🤣
You get so few bites per hour over the course of a season and it’s hard enough keeping them hooked with barbs. If you invested as much time as these guys you’d understand.
@@heinrichbier4759 I was making fun of the people he said would be roasting him in the comments. The same types who've been critical for bumping fish.
Water temp?
@whodunnet1850 low 70's
Thanks, great video! 👍
Looks like lake Geneva WI. My back yard. Good fish
Was thinking the same thing. Big, Deep body, great job finding those!
They were working that 20ft ledge dropping to 40 or 50 ft. In trinkies bay.
