Pity we dont see more of your skills in the workshop Tommy but never mind they are well worth waiting for when you do upload, thanks again and look forward to the next one.
Great piece Tommy. I appreciate you including a little bit of all the steps in your process (dye, sealing, finish, etc.) as well as the turning. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah count me in for a TON of wet-sanding as well Guys! I actually still finish my vessels that way! I'm starting a Woodworking/Woodturning/Maker Channel soon! My main focus will be finishing! I'm pretty excited! Hope y'all watch! I'll let y'all know when I launch! Tommy, You & Chris have been a BIG influence! Thanks to you both! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
Great project Tommy. I just purchased a wood lathe myself. I'm looking into buying some turning tools. Saw that you use Hurricane tools. How are they compared to other tool companies such as Robert Sorby or Crown??? Any input on this I'd appreciate it. Thanks
They are about the same, I have some of each. I just got some Carter & Son tools and they are very good. They come sharp and ready to use. My plan is to go to all Carter & Son. Those are the ones that have the aluminum handles I use.
Hi, Mr. Akridge. I'm Leandro Tello from Spain. Congratulations for your work. I would like to ask you if the lacquer you use is nitrocellulose lacquer? Thank you very much for your attention and best regards
wow says it all 1 of the best projects I've seen tommy I'm brand new to wood turning when you turned the piece around to face the bottom how did ya attach to lathe was it with Chuck in small hole
I have some pin jaws, I wrapped the jaws in some shelve lining so not to damage the threads and only tightened the jaws to center the apple. The tail stock did all the holding by pushing on the jaws. I hoped this helped, let me know if you have anymore questions and thanks for watching
Tommy, that has to be the closest to perfection piece of turning I have seen in a long while. Beautiful. Question; what did you wipe on after the dye ( that matched your shirt pretty good !) ?. Lost for words, stunning doesn't do it justice. Best regards from the UK 🇬🇧. Geof.
Stunningly beautiful work! Made me a subscriber. where did you find the threaded inserts? I've been wanting to make my own cremation urn and have wondered how I was going to thread it.
it was a Hot water PVC union from Lowes. hot water fitting are not white but a yellow color and smaller then the white one that is why I used it. any PVC union would work
I do not have it here in front of me right now sorry, but I get it from Lowes in the black can and it is called brush lacquer. no I do not thin it, it flows very well and if you hand turn it on the lathe slowly it will not run. 3 coats that way is a lot.
where dose all this anger come from? you cant have a loving and full life and be filled with anger. Sorry you do not like my videos, it would seem it was not made for you. I will pray you will find peace in your life and that God may bless you in all that you do.

It appears that you used the PVC fitting to mount that to your head stock bolt? If so, never thought of this. Nice idea.
The PVC fitting is what I used as a insert to screw the top on. Thanks for watching
I realized that but did you also use it to mount it to your head stock to do some work on it?
sorry , no. it was the wrong size for that. I used my pin jaws to hold it.
Tommy, that has to be the closest to perfection piece of turning I have seen in a long while. Beautiful.

Brush on lacquer, 3 coats. Thanks for the great comments
Two questions from a newbie. 1. How did you mount the urn while turning the bottom? 1. What kind of dye is that? An aniline or ?? Beautiful work.
I had a mortis on the bottom for the chuck. I filled it with a disk. also it was alcohol dye
lovely - checking out more videos
Thank you Shogun-Jimi
Will they teach me that in Art or Community Schools? and how did you learn?
RUclips
Stunningly beautiful work! Made me a subscriber. where did you find the threaded inserts? I've been wanting to make my own cremation urn and have wondered how I was going to thread it.
It is a 1/2" PVC hot water union. Was easy to do. Thanks for watching
Where do you find the threaded insert? Awsome job.
it was a Hot water PVC union from Lowes. hot water fitting are not white but a yellow color and smaller then the white one that is why I used it. any PVC union would work
Nice yaar
Thank you
What was the name of the fitting you used? I heard "hot water - steam steam? fitting?
1/2" PVC hot water union
Thanks Tommy
Awesome work Tommy! Im curious, what brand lacquer are you using and are you thinning it at all?
I do not have it here in front of me right now sorry, but I get it from Lowes in the black can and it is called brush lacquer. no I do not thin it, it flows very well and if you hand turn it on the lathe slowly it will not run. 3 coats that way is a lot.
muito bom vou faser de motor de tanquinho
Tommy it is an awesome and stunning piece, it is just a pity that you had to paint it. Now all the awesome wood grain is gone.
He PAINTED it?? I didn't finish watching. I'm done. 😖
Beautiful piece (though imo. drop the tacky leaf :)
Sorry, my wife said no on the leaf
Tomato?
Apple
N Z WOOD TURNING
Why would you turn an apple?
Turn something from your imagination.
It is an urn and a college professor is buried in it. Apple for a teacher, that’s way
@@Tommyakridgedesigns Anyway, nice Work Sir!
Excuse me. He PAINTED it!! What woodturner does that? Not even counting the sped up crappy music. Noooo
