Considering him as your friend after what he did to you made me emotional. You’re such a nice person, Harnoor. I hope you achieve everything in your life. 🙏🏻❤️
Thanks for sharing this Harnoor. These bad experiences actually help us grow more as strong individuals and better human beings. Usually in India we are used to being around family and people taking care of us at the age of 15/16. So when one comes to US for undergrad, it’s a lot different. You have to take care of everything yourself. And when you are a student, $200 or 500 matters a lot. I think these things usually happen when you go out to live on your own at a young age, whether it’s in US or elsewhere. But the weed thing was scary.
Thanks for sharing Harnoor, I hope this will help other students. I think some of these things can be avoided simply by making good decisions and using common sense. For example: roaming around a big city late at night by yourself. That can happen anywhere in the world. Of the 3 examples you mentioned, very similar things have happened to me and other foreigners in India as well, or maybe even worse. I love India, and the many places I’ve traveled around the world. But it’s good to clarify that internationals coming to America will find some of the best safety and comfort compared to most other places a foreigner would travel in the world. It’s good to consider this in the broader perspective too. Thanks again for sharing your tough experiences!

Great video Harnoor. I live in the US and weed is pretty common here. People here take this very casually and they are okay with it. For us, it's very culturally shocking and surprising since these kind of substances are related to bad stereotypes and bad things, etc.
Lesson - If you go to a foreign place, show that you trust your roommates but at the back of the mind don't trust anyone there. It'd sad but you have to be cruel sometimes to survive.
Most universities have an arbitration court like structure. If you have issues like money borrowed and not returned can be addressed. If the 3rd roommate that left suddenly without giving notice still owes you rent for at least that month. Actually if had signed an agreement to stay for 7 months then he owes you for the entire time. But just threatening someone with taking action will make him pay up. Also in US you can take a person to small claims court. No charge to you. Then a judge will settle the case. But in the university they have an ombudsman who may help settle such issues. Don't loose your money to a cheat.
Things to clarify: The roommate took away all his stuff secretly and never came back.
