Playing against the computer was really why this video game was made. Gotta admit, having to go against the CPU was revolutionary even on something mundane as tic-tac-toe.
Fun fact. In game theory, tic tac toe is considered a futile game since perfect play results in a draw, but Qubic is a solved game since perfect play results in player one always winning.
This game was actually way ahead of its time and the AI was damn impressive considering the hardware. A lot of sp games owe their existence to this whether they know it or not.

For those of you who are whining about how bad this game is? It was THE EARLY DAYS OF VIDEOG GAMES! It was a time of fascination with the pc age coming onto the scene and video games opened the flood gates of wanting more from tech. No one cared how these 2600 games looked. All they cared about was what it could do and we all took the challenge. No one cared about quality back then because there was nothing else to compare it to. Pixels were the top of the line. Before things got smaller and more detailed, because of the microchip, the pixel ruled the day! Without Atari, without the video arcade, without this first magnificent console called the 2600 "Heavy" and all of it's very simple game situations, not to mention the very cool art work that advertised these games the same way the old "B" movies use to do with film? There would be no Nintendo, no PlayStation, no video game industry today. To us the early video arcades and first consoles represented the computer age, just as the pc was starting to hit the market. And the internet was still just a concept until another decade came and went and now we're all connected.
I kind of understand this game without being confused, and I think it's kind of innovative for the classic Atari system. As long as it drive ya up tha wall, that is (ba-dum-tss!)
This game was not too good for the Atari 2600, I recommend playing “Pink Tac-Toe” which is a much better game than this one, because it features Pinkie Pie from “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” where she can play against the player. It’s you against Pinkie Pie.
I just played this as part of the disappointing Atari Flashback Collection on the Switch, and everything Aqualung said was 100%. It's totally unplayable on the Joycons and Pro Controller. Hell, a lot of the 150 games in that collection does not translate well with the modern controls. The only ones I can play with some decency is the Centipede and Millipede games. I saw it at Target a few days ago and took an interest. After trying to play many of these arcade, 2600, and 5200 games, it's safe to say they'd be best played with their original controls. My breaking point was having trouble playing Missile Command. Another disappointing thing about the collection, was no space invaders, activision games, or any of the pac-man stuff.
Returning to 3D Tic Tac Toe was infuriating, at first; I had to learn how deal with losses; I'm enjoying the game more & more everyday mainly b/c if its history.
