***** really, if someone does this and you dont want something like that to happen, why acknowledge it. And you ended up being the jerk in that for the why you acknowledged that comment. Please don't view me as a jerk for, what might seem as me defending the other person, Im just trying to spread the of not being an A*S on the internet.

I'm so glad that James and Mike do videos on Atari. It's great to know that there's still people out there who appreciate the Atari. I went to an old retro game store for Atari games, and very sadly, the owner of the store had them in a box behind the counter (not visable at all). I didn't even know they had any after looking and not seeing any anywhere until I asked the clerk if they had any. They were 50 cents each, and the guy even threw in 3 free just to get rid of them. I guess no one wants Atari anymore (probably because the newer generations thinking "old school" only applies to Nintedo and SNES. I just thought it was sad. Thankfully, Mike and James are here to show everyone the beauty of Atari and it's games. You might not like this type of game, but River Raid, PitFall (my fave), Space Invaders, Kaboom, etc are all great ones. It's always nice to go back to the roots of video games.

Let's be honest, people who collect retro games are only in it to re-sell them later on. otherwise (financially speaking) you would just emulate the console, and download the complete collection of games or buy a knockoff console like the Atari Flahshback.

Great review of one of the very early video games. I think that many people forget that in 1980, getting a home console that played even the most basic games was a feat. This game probably wowed many people because it was a strategy game and you can play against the computer. This game was developed just after Video Chess for the 2600. This game was a huge leap forward.

I had this game growing up on my atari. I didn't understand the concept of it at the time, because i was 5. So naturally i did what any 5 year old would do at that time and give it to my baby sister as a chew toy.
She of course chew on it and it landed in the old toy box of no return, where it stayed until I was like 16, then my mom decided to clean up all the old toys and got rid of it, including my copy of Atari's E.T.

Despite this game being very easy to find, I've never seen a cartridge of it IRL! It's odd that some Atari games have a 1 or 2 rarity rating but are still hard to come by. Well, I guess you have to keep searching through garage sales, thrift shops, antique stores, and flea markets.

Dunno if that any weird stuff like that could happen in this, but there's a glitch in the 2600 chess game where the two highest difficulty CPUs can unintentionally get two moves. The CPU basically just moves pieces around to see what will happen before making a legit move, but when deciding, it sometimes forgets to put a piece back where it came from, so the CPU gets to have two pieces moving in a single turn. What a cheating bastard.

    • @icemansquared

      Nesbro
The same bug occurs on the highest difficulties of Video Chess on the 2600. The folks at Atari probably used the same minimax algorithm in both games. The MOS 6507 could take up to 10 hours to complete a single move on max difficulty.

Is it just me, or does the picture on the label of the Tic-Tac-Toe game look like it has Robo Jackson from Moonwalker on it?

"On higher settings, the computer takes longer to think about its moves, because it's thinking further steps ahead. So it seems kinda like there's a penalty for getting good at the game, which I consider a flaw." I doubt this was a design choice. They probably didn't have enough time to have the computer process its move in one frame due to hardware limitations, (8 bit 6507 running at 1.19 MHz) so they made it take multiple frames. The waiting time does seem rather long though, so maybe the game wasn't optimized very well, unless finding a spot to go in is more difficult than I though.
