Dear Nia, the lactating process is driven by hormones.
You don't need to be a woman nor to have a baby to start of the lactating process.
If this "impossible burger" truly contains the right hormones, it could definitely make men lactate.
This is why we usually have food control and laws to protect people against this, sadly it seems the regulators are asleep on this case.

First of all, it’s physically possible for men to lactate with high levels of estrogen.
That said, let’s not jump too fast on the “soy causes man tits/high estrogen” bandwagon because the estrogens in soy are different from estrogen in soy. Estrogen in soy is a type of a plant estrogen (aka phytoestrogen) called isoflavones, whereas estrogen in humans is estradiol. These types of phytoestrogens have weaker effect on a human body and recent studies have shown that they outright do not raise estrogen or lower testosterone in men. So it’s stupid to be sounding alarms like the guy who sent the email making men afraid to get tits (just has that weird childish “ew you’ll become a girl” type of vibe you know what I mean) when you don’t have the full picture, especially stupid to circulate one of these disproven gym bro facts (ps: not saying all gym bro facts are bs before anyone says anything).

    1) Some women lactate without getting pregnant. Or way after the child is grown up. It's called *"Galactorrhea"* .
    2) Men can lactate too, if they intake enough of the hormones that cause it.
    3) That condition Galactorrhea, it effects about 5% of men too. Yes, you read that right. About 5% of men lactate without even taking any hormones. One of the reasons for this condition is low testosterone.
    4) Some newborn infants spontaneously lactate, irrespective of their gender. It's called 'Neonatal Milk' or 'Witch's Milk'.

From my unprofessional knowledge. Men who are overweight and sedentary in general have less testosterone and more estrogen compared to those who are at a healthy weight. The appearance of breasts can simply be a accumulation of fat in the chest area. However, shockingly 50% to 65% percent of males world wide have developed gynecomastia or "bitch tits" in their life. Making the appearance more severe. It is the estrogen that causes the gland underneath the nipple to grow and protrude making it look like breasts. I doubt that it is the consumption of soy products like the impossible meat that solely corrilates in males developing "bitch tits". The realistic cause is that the male is overweight which again tends to have a higher level of estrogen. Higher body fat percentage with high levels of estrogen means higher chance of developing gynecomastia. High levels of prolactin not estrogen is the cause of males to lactate from their nipples in small amounts. Personally I try to minimize the consumption of soy products just as a precaution for making my gynecomastia worse. If I do I only eat Organic Non-GMO soy products.

    • @CODMarioWarfare

I can’t find a single meta analysis incorporating multiple studies that points to phytoestrogens having any impact on t levels in men. And this is more anecdotal, but at least for my part, I’ve been eating meat substitutes, and consume a ton of soy products for 6 years. I have had nothing but positive health effects as a result. I’ve never lactated, my testosterone levels are well within the normal range, and I have yet to grow tits, despite actually being far less active than I was 6 years ago.
The only time you see these kind of claims is from a single outlier study. And in past experience, these are always studies funded by beef or dairy industries. Once multiple other researchers start publishing independent results that confirm this kind of stuff, maybe it will be worth taking seriously.
