I was in the Australian Army for 7 years, then I was a policeman with the Queensland Police for 37 years. This song reminds me of some of the hard men I served with. They would have your back and you theirs.
They coined that old term , from these guys and Dana in this all time favorite movie of my late grandpa and mine , “hard times make harder men”! My grandpas favorite quote was , “oh , little woman ?, you know karate ? Well I know Winchester!” Lol
Just returned from visiting my oldest living brother....he is a Korean War Veteran and the best man I have ever known. Aways has been there for me and my younger brother. A good husband, father and friend to all who know him. He is dying of COPD from his construction career, he helped build the World Trade Center . Such a good man....I wish I could be a tenth of the man he is. His wife died 6 months ago and he is tethered to an oxygen tube......nothing in life left. We talked and laughed...may God take him. Thank You Raymond...you are everything the word "brother" means. I love you man....even if I can't tell you
Love this song...reminds me of the real men I I know/knew in my life. No bullshit, no brag, guys. They had been through so much in their lives...family, love, war, pain, loss. It was an honor and a privledge to have known them ...and learned from them. Tough as shit, but with good hearts. They laughed at your dumbass kid-shit, but treated you as a man and were there for you when you were down . Their smiles and laughter helped you to see things in perspective. Stand-Up guys...not bullshitting little pussies strutting and running their mouths, but real men who stood true and firm in the face of life's tough times. The war movies you see....they were there and endured some of war's most terrible experiences. Among these men were my brothers and brothers-in-law....good men who looked out for me as a young kid and man. Thank You to all of them....you made me a man. Sadly, there's not too many of them left.
@@sailaway161 Thank you....i'm grateful to have known them, i was a FDNY Fireman and their lessons brought me through the worst time in my life. I will always be grateful for their guidance and love
Well said! Same here. It was an honor and privilege to know that generation of people. My father and uncles and all their friends. Also my grandparents and some of their brothers and sisters ( all born between 1899 and 1910 ) sure don't make them like that anymore without a doubt.
My old cassette is lost, I give it all to my nephew, but again I heard this song, I 'm longing for my youth years in 1985 - 2000, so long my youth age.
Well you're gone my brother....you left this life yesterday and I am happy for you. No more suffering, no more loneliness without your beloved wife. In my heart I believe that you are together again. Thank you for all you've done and for being there for me through the years. So many years ago in 1969 you were waiting at the airport for me when I came home from basic training, just a kid. Your guidance, wisdom and kindness through the years will always be with me. Only a loving God could give me such a loving and caring brother Hopefully someday we'll meet again in this incredible universe Until that time Raymond....Until that time Rest In Peace my brother
A thousand thanks for posting this. I have been looking for this song on youtube for a very, very long time. Hoping to find a copy of this on BR somewhere.
My wife is my wife, uncles are uncles, brothers are brother etc...my partner is my best mate. There's nothing homosexual in it, its just we have been "partners" since boys. If you find yourself in a bad place your partner will always be there to back you up even if you never tell them you need them. Thanks for posting this.
Bro is this the movie where they steal a train and bust thru the mexico/us border and they were these old gangsters getting caught up in some stuff?! I think I saw it when I was like 12, i found it recorded on VHS (along with crocodile dundee)

the best things in life never change........
Nice way of thinking.
perhaps the most underrated Kenny Rogers song . simply beautiful and so profound. the way our world has changed, this song has become more meaningful.
This song rings true. Especially in 2012, soon to be 2013. "No one to look up to..."
My old cassette is lost, I give it all to my nephew, but again I heard this song, I 'm longing for my youth years in 1985 - 2000, so long my youth age.

what a beautiful song. so soothing, pure relaxation and reflexion.

As a die hard Patriots fan I think this describes Brady and Edelman. Best of friends, brothers, and truly tough guys. 😀
The people of these days don't like this kind of movie.
You can see here (imdb.com/title/tt0092105/)
those guys. I have to say, these days the world seems more gay than ever. Without prejudice.
