- Welcome back all,
Happy new year! To kick 2024 off, we have a video on my Mk4 Fiesta Van, that I purchased last year for just £700. There's been a fuel leak from the pump ever since I purchased the van but only recently it got progressively worse and I had to address this. In this video I strip down the cam belt to access the fuel pump & I show the whole process including cambelt instillation.
The job wasn't smooth sailing and I did come into issues when trying to get my old fuel pump refurbished but I managed to find a brand new one on eBay for £400! This may seem a lot but I couldn't source a brand new pump from anywhere else and refurbished ones were £800+.
I need to give a special mention to Will at The Refinishing Shop, who vapour blasted my cam cover and my alternator bracket, which came up looking new. @therefinishingshop on instagram!

Motorcyclists will thank you, i don't ride no more but still remember diesel on the road was a big hazard. Another great vid.
I agree mate, that was my main thought in my head when changing the pump! 👍🏻
@@Mk2Mitch ever the pro you are.. not naming and shaming the company too. Because i would of.... i can be a proper karen. 👌🏻
Should put this companies name out there to stop other people from suffering 👍👍
I’m unaware of the name as it was a company the parts place was sending it to 👍🏻
My god, I've never saw this pumps as a brand new one, and I'm digging around these engines for years :D
It was a lucky find 😁
Any money you spend on this van would be quadrupled at least if you had a newish one and it was being serviced by a main dealer 👍
Keeping stuff on the road like this does far more for "the environment" than buying new ULEZ compliant or EV rhubarb.
Well done Mitch
Couldn’t agree more mate! I love this van, very fuel efficient and was cheap as chips to purchase 😁
You’re a bloody good mechanic to take a job like that on, open to the elements and on the floor 👍
Thank you! I could've done this job at work in a heated workshop but I can't record in there, so I have to do it outside in the cold 🤣 All part of the fun!
Great video mate 😊 glad you sorted the pump out in the end 👌
Thank you mate! Glad you enjoyed the video 😁
Nice to see other classic back on the road. Take you for sharing doing this job. Learn something new. 👍💯
Thank you John, I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
Another brilliant vid m8 And happy new year to you and yours!!
Thank you mate! Happy new year 😁
Great video. That’s dedication, working in the dark and snow
Thank you! Wasn’t the best conditions but I wanted it done 🤣
Great video really informative hat off to you for tackling such a big job I'm glad them workshop pics helped made my year getting a mention thankyou also how sexy is that cam cover looks good as new
Thanks again mate the photos really helped when I was scratching my head with setting the tensioner! I agree so happy with the cam cover it looks brand new. I’m looking forward to giving the van some more tlc & fitting those wheel trims 😎
Awesome video Mitch with the content in it, as said with you explaining the process step by step and it was a good moment when you could hear the the van ticking over. i know all about getting the right people / firm to deal with the fuel injection pump, like you learning the hard way but it all comes good in the end 👍
Thank you pal, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The pump situation was annoying but as you say sometimes you've got to learn the hard way and I won't be going back there! 😆
Great video and great to see the process and you explaining everything. There’s loads of RUclips content out there and no one explaining things. Good to see another vehicle saved! 👍🏼
Thank you, I’m glad you liked the video! I always try to explain most of the job, in case others need it for reference 👍🏻
Fantastic video/job mitch looking forward to more videos 🇬🇧 👍
Cheers mate, thank you! 👍🏻
Mk2 Mitch rides again 👍👍👍
Nice one mate 😊
Awesome job mate ! It will run forever now
Cheers mate, I hope so! 😆
Good work pal
Thank you Richard!
Great video m8 👍
Thank you mate!
Hat off to you, peace.
Cool video dude. Fair play to you - you put some effort into it 👍😎
Thank you! Always try and put my 100% into everything I do 😎
Nice job Mitch I was shocked how much that pump was blimey ! But you got her back in tip top condition again well done. I’m a huge fan of old ford vans . Used to own a mk1 1972 v4 transit I’m missing it now ! . I’ve just bought my daughter a streetka for her first car I can tinker with it and she loves it 👍
I agree the pump was costly mate but I had limited other options! Sounds great, them streetka’s are quite sort after now 👍🏻
Cool 😎 video matey 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed the video mate! 😎
Hi I have mentioned this before my first car was a Mark 4 or 5 Cortina it was my Dad's car 1.6 Pinto Engine what a lovely car. Then my first car of my own was a A Reg 950cc popular plus Fiesta I really liked that car.
My mum got herself a Very low Mileage 1.8 Diesel Fiesta car only done around 22000 miles just like the Engine you are working on your Video today. Unfortunately as you no very well it was quite a slow Engine but super reliable and an excellent engine.
There is a very small key goes on the Pulley to the Engine where the Cambelt fits and my mum was so unlucky with such a low mileage the Small key sheared off the mechanic never seen anything like it and done serious damage to the Engine. It was all rebuilt but never was quite right after the rebuild.
Oh wow that's gutting to hear that the engine never ran properly again! They are great engines but as you say very slow, so you can't go anywhere in a rush 🤣
but it starts thats good , i like this channel .is your blue camper coming on well .
Thank you! Yes the camper is all good, got another video coming within the next few weeks 😎
I've done many cam/injection pump belts on there 1.8's, they are fairly simple, i had a bit more room on mine as they were either MK4 & MK7 Escort's or MK2 Orion's
I agree a fairly simple belt to change, I wish that I had more room in this bay! The fiesta van must've been the smallest engine bay these 1.8 diesel's were fitted in...😆
Great Video 👍 Nice to see the job being done properly. Are you a mechanic by trade.🧐
Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes I am a full time mechanic and MOT tester 👍🏻
Ly Mitch
Love your video's. Question do you come across many mk2 sri cavaliers? I'd love to buy one
Hi, I'm glad you like the videos! I can't say I come across many cavaliers but its always work looking on eBay to see if any pop up 😎
dam good job, you only made one mistake, you didn't take it to work + steam-clean the death out of it first, including taking the top cambelt cover off + blasting everything with the engine running, after all, you are renewing everything. it makes it a much better job, not getting covered in $hit...
the belt run-off is caused by a tiny mis-alignment of the pulleys, luckily you renewed all the usual culprits, but always a good idea to check whilst running at the end...
PS, running neat, old chip-fat blows the seals out of the pumps, yes i should of listened, it bit my arse in my escort, but id did smell good at the lights...
Thank you! Although I didn’t clean the area before I started, once stripped down I cleaned every section and was cleaning parts when putting them back onto the engine, so we are left with the same result. 🤷🏻 I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
Last time I did one of those timing belts would’ve been about 20 years ago
Quite easy to do, once you’ve done your first!
What an absolute globe ache😮 hat is off mate... lucky little car to be in your ownership
I know, wasn’t the easiest job to source a pump 🤣 Glad it’s back together now and I’m looking forward to refreshing some other parts very soon!
Hi mate do you knw what size o ring goes inside the inner crankshaft pulley 👍
No unfortunately I don’t mate 👍🏻
Good video, I have an escort van mk6 where do you go for spares?
Hi! Ebay is always a good place to find spares or the mk5/6 escort van group on Facebook! Alternatively you can always ring your local parts company as they will still stock parts 👍🏻
Jesus I ain’t seen of these for donkeys years
They’re quite rare now believe it or not!
Why didn’t you keep the footage in of trying to get it started?
I wasn’t recording at the time! Once all started and fuel was in the lines again I picked up the camera 😁
@@Mk2Mitch ohhhh ok that’s a shame!
Don't now if it's just the camera angle or the brake hose is twisted. If it's twisted should have not passed the mot test.
I can assure you it was the camera angle… 🤣
They gave you this back like this on purpose because you didn't purchase anything from them 😤
Exactly that mate, very sad..!
Thumb nail hands on head blah blah blah ?
Vans broken pal, do you want me to act happy in the thumbnail? 🤣
