- Be My Eyes is a FREE mobile app designed to bring sight to blind and low vision people. With the press of a button, the app establishes a live video connection between blind and low vision users and sighted volunteers. Every day, volunteers are lending their eyes to help with anything from simple tasks, like checking expiry dates, to more complicated situations, like navigation or finding a lost item. With more than a million users across 150 countries, Be My Eyes has grown to become the largest online community for the blind and low vision people, and it is now possible to request assistance in more than 180 languages. The app harnesses the power of generosity, technology and human connection to help blind and low vision individuals lead more independent lives.

Hey Renad, yes it is good to help.
Why don't you donate one of your kidneys, to the local hospital.
You will feel very special for a long time, as there are many people waiting for kidneys on account of they being born with poor kidneys.
Much like giving blood, you are assessed by a doctor to ensure your kidneys are superfluous to you life-long needs.

Let people help to the extent that they feel they can, or else put your challenge to a whole group. Don't slap someone who's already done a kindness and punish them for not doing the kindness you want them to do. This was cyberbullying that you committed.
Downloaded it. Can’t wait to get my first call. I’m sure tears will flood my eyes once I help someone. This is such a brilliant app. We need more apps like these. I love it.

A nice man just needed help finding a charging cable he had dropped. He was so happy to have found it. I was so nervous, but talking it out together and some moving to the left/right we found the right cord! Success!!!

I joined after running across this by accident. My 90 year old father is trying to live independently as a blind person. His vision has gotten worse and worse. Only problem is he’s so proud and stubborn. His insulin pump failed the other night so he had to give himself insulin via syringe. He couldn’t see how much he was giving himself and did it by feel. Luckily he woke up the next day!!! I can FaceTime or Skype with him directly but thought I’d join because I see how difficult it can be when you just need an opinion or a bit of help and you can’t run to your neighbor for everything! Great app.
I think the idea of this app is brilliant, but I can't help but worry that someone will take advantage of it. I'd hate to imagine it, but sadly, there are horrid people out there, who take advantage of the blind.
(This did make me smile, though, the fact that there are people out there willing to take a minute to help another is just so wholesome and sweet.)
Yeah, i imagined a blind person asking where are their keys, and the responder was a psycho and made him grab a knife instead of his keys, and probably injure the blind person
@@Gigachad3607 I seriously doubt that kind of thing would happen. Keys and knives or other dangerous objects are not kept together. Blind people are used to using their hands for information they don’t get from their eyes, and are thus more sensitive to what they feel. People intent on hurting others are not the kind of people who volunteer to help others.

How can they find the app if they're blind?
Blind people can use technology, just search RUclips for videos explaining it. They use text-to-voice and other tools. Also, a sighted person can help them install it.
It’s called voice commands like Siri or Alexa

I really love this app. I’ve gotten quite a few calls and sometimes if I’m at work or just can’t answer it goes to another volunteer. But I answer when I can. Like today a man just needed some help figuring out what the settings were on a washer and dryer. It took me about 3 minutes out of my day but felt good to help someone with someone most people take for granted.

@Ghost_ I use a program called a “screen reader” that reads aloud what is on my phone screen. You might think that blind people are completely cut off from screen technology, but most of us use this same technology to use both phones and computers. There is even technology that converts what is visually on a screen into Braille. I also sometimes use this technology. This technology is called a “Braille display”.

I cannot believe how many 1-star reviews there are in the app stores from sighted people who are mad that there aren't enough blind people who need help to do every day tasks. 😤 They're giving the lowest possible rating to an app that helps people with a significant disability just because the app isn't calling them enough and giving the person without the disability enough opportunities to feel good about themselves.
Watching this on my way to work and I teared up a little. Damn made me emotional. This is such a thoughtful idea. It will be such a great help. I am installing one right now.

I bet you were already able to help a few by now. If you haven't yet, yesterday I received my first call and I helped him set the knobs of his washing machine. It was very brief but very fulfilling.

I would love to be your eyes. I’m typing this in tears because it gives me so much hope and joy that there are people out there that want to help.
I got my first call this afternoon. I was preparing food for my dog. I tried to finish quick as soon as possible but then when I picked up, another volunteer helped that person. Ughh.. I was sooo excited for my first call 😩 Next time, I hope I'll be ready when it comes ❤
My son is legally blind and I’m thankful for this app. Can’t wait to help others too.
Great thing especially during the cover 19 pandemic. I had to stop my meals on wheels route due to my age and immune system, but now I have something else to replace that ability to help others. Thanks!

This is a great idea. That was my first thought.
But the second thing I thought was how do you protect people from users who might abuse the service (just to troll or stupid children who think everything is a joke)?
zammmerjammer I thought the same thing.... And even the other way around.... Someone saying they're blind, but actually not and abusing the service
I went to the website and they have thought of this and there is a reporting system in place. I hope the good people who are sincere about this far outnumber any idiots who might join just to annoy people.
more worried people would hurt the blind. the sighted will just get pissed off by having their time wasted. the blind could get hurt. the milk example? what if he said it was not expired or worse what if it was medicine and some sick freak decided to say it was a different kind than actually was " which is my heart meds vs seizure meds" could range from embarrassment (tell them the color is blue instead of red so they wear a clashing outfit) to annoy or inconvenience the blind person or god forbid to actually kill them (say the object has no food allergens or medicines are different they they really are) .
granted they have the last person they used maybe? or a video archive for short terms should something happen? but even then if its a life lost...
don't think it won't happen? there really are sick people like that! that i fear.
after every call u can report if the other person was doing a bad use and they´ll cancel the account

As good and beneficial as this app is,there will be some awful disgusting humans that will use this to prank blind people by giving them wrong instructions in order to ruin their day.
Please install a feature that can be used to report people who do this.
