Meet Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Nimesh Desai

Nimesh D. Desai, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Penn Aorta Center. As a cardio-aortic surgeon, Dr. Desai has expertise in treating patients who have aortic aneurysms anywhere in the chest, bicuspid aortic valve disease, patients with a family history of aortic aneurysm, and patients who have had previous surgery on their aorta.
“The aortic program here at Penn is unique in the world in that we have taken an approach to looking after not just one particular problem, like an aortic aneurysm, but actually looking after the patient for their entire lifetime,” says Dr. Desai. “So we use a very multidisciplinary approach, a lot of surveillance and a lot of thought about the future, not just about the current problem, but what we expect to be looking after over that patient's lifetime.”
