Picked up V1 of the Deviate Nitro Elite for £75 at Start Fitness. Not sure I like it as much as the Vaporfly for racing but it makes a brilliant fast training shoe. Really impressed by it.
I agree. I got the Nitro Elite recently on sale and find it very light and fast. But it’s not as propulsive as the Vaporfly. I’ll use the Puma more for speed sessions in training and would pick the Vaporfly for races.
For the vaporfly the only issue i have is the forefoot it is very narrow, especially if you compare with the Adios pro 2. I just waiting the Liberate Nitro V2. Nice video as usual!
Here for EDD “baby faced” BUD I have v1 thanks to Drew from WearTesters and love them. Soft and bouncy but I can control the shoe vs controlling me. I do look fwd to trying either Deviate Nitro 2 and/or Nitro Elite 2. Probably wait for a sale on them.
The Deviate Elite 1 is the most narrow shoe I own-even more than any Nike shoe-so I would welcome more forefoot room from the 2. Thanks for the vid Edd!
Picked up the Sen 8 for £76, and it's a dynamite shoe! Raced a HM at the weekend and took minutes off my PB, first time dipping under 90, 1:28:58. Deviate Nitro Elite looks a decent option, but will wait for the discounts to hit.
No comparison between the vaporfly and the puma..every thing about the puma is better..from the upper to the outsole..the midsole is comparable..they both go flat quickly and neither is a good long run shoe..for me they both have great potential and a few tweaks would make them at the top of the pile..completely agree with you about the lacing on the vaporfly..not everyone wants to fight with tying up their shoes..the adidas shoes are pretty much as bad about the lacing/tongue as the vaporfly..hopefully your marathon training is going well Edd..
mixed reviews across the board , however the fact that I LOVE the sen 8 , and currently use the original deviate elite as my Marathon pace training shoe (but not long run) says to me that I might agree with you , I just hope we can get them next month and it does not turn out to be like the first gen where they don't hit the UK shores for 6 months
Ooh, thanks for the Takumi Sen comparison. I've been intrigued by it, but I'm worried that the snug, narrow fit would not work for me. Never mind I don't need to be buying more shoes right now...
I would suggest everyone read Born to Run and Born to Run 2. Running shoes don’t have to be over engineered to be effective. It’s a money thing with all these new shoes. If you truly want an advantage then strengthen your feet naturally with zero drop minimal shoes. I’m 61 years old and outrun younger folks who strap on the $300 shoes.
I completely agree with you, however, we must remember that not all people are not built the same. Races/runs like a full/ half marathons, or even just a simple 3k, 5k, 10k (for someone who just started running) can be a mental thing. Having a (popular/ expensive) shoe can give them the mentality that they can run faster and longer. At the end of the day as long as they could afford it and it makes them happy, i say go for it.
Good Point @Tigerjazz61 , I run in Merrell barefoot shoes (love to sprint in them the foot , can be a brilliant spring) however my heart rate and steady to slow paces in a super shoe can be up to 5bpm less then in the Merrells or my Altra escalante racers ... just a fact , yes the latter 'feel free and can make me smile like a kid again ) but over 20 miles .. that tech does its job.
Could you do a comparison between the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2 vs Hoka Mach 5 vs Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro vs Brooks Hyperion Max vs Brooks Hyperion Tempo vs Adidas Pro 3 vs Adizero Boston 11
Hey Edd, wanted the deviate nitro elite v1 but already had 18 pairs of running shoes. So even on sale I couldn't justify it. Deviate nitro elite v2 will have to wait. Comparing the sen 8 vs the Adios pro 2, I prefer the sen 8. As I lightly overpronate especially on one foot. I prefer the sen 8 for its lower stack high, especially on a long run.
Hi Edd, great comparisons. Good info as well. I have a question though... coming from using elite v1, I had to get a half size up due to the narrow forefoot upper fit. I typically wear a 10.5 (us) for all my nike (alphafly, pegasus, zoomfly 5), but a size 11 (us) for the nitro elite v1... what do you recommend I get for the elite v2 sizing? Thanks and great vid as always!
Not that I need another running shoe right now, but I'll have to consider this since I love the Deviate Nitro 2 so much. Running in max-cushioned super stack shoes is great and all but, after a while, you start missing that "old school" feel of being a little lower to the ground and not being aware of all that foam and tech underneath your feet. The DNE2 is on my radar now. I guess it's just a matter of when, not if.
I purchased the v1 on sale recently and after all the hype I had seen about it I was massively unimpressed. I really can't see what all the hype was about? The shoe is so narrow, the laces are ridiculously short and the ride isnt as comfortable as I thought it would be. Thinking about it the only thing I've been impressed with was the price Puma were selling it for compared to other race day shoes. I think the v2 will be a nay from me this time Edd, far better options on the market currently.
Just realized that the deviate elite 2 was in local store since Dec 2022 , it was launched in a Singapore Marathon. With a 20% discount, have to get it.
Hi Edd, if it was V1 the results would be the same? because the V1 is 77 earth credits. Also hope the space in the toebox of V1 also be roomier than TS8. Thanks. I almost forgot, It can also be comparable to the endorphin Pro 3?, for me, very stable, feels light, good space on the toebox and can be used in paces not so fast not feeling unstable. Thanks again.
For over all performance would you recommend the deviate nitro elite 2 over the deviate nitro 2nd or a 160 pound runner targeting a 4:15 marathon. Again the cost difference isn’t a concern for me in this comparison just looking for the better race shoe
I am only 72kg, slow runner, heel striker. The Nitro deviate 2s bottom out! Walking slowly it is like on cloud nine. Running it is like on wood blocks as they bottom out I.e. The foam and plate are too soft and compress too quickly. Got sore knees after running with them.. really dont understand the reviews. Are they only suitable for fast and tiny, skinny runners?
Will see if puma offer me something else, as I can't afford another pair of shoes, sadly. Great grip on them... and are snug, wide fit, but I was stupid to buy the orange ones, so can't wear them with jeans...
@@EDDBUD Top man Edd, I like it when people talk the talk and walk the walk. There are some youtubers who continuously slag off the Vaporflys against other shoes but only wear Vaporflys in their races!! I've stopped watching those 'influencers'

At a third of the price of the VF it does make for good value.

Midfoot perhaps is the issue for many. The arch is rather present.

The sen is a narrow beast. This one is more of a traditional fit
Could you do a comparison video between bearded Edd and babyface Edd? Aerodynamic gains, weight saving...
😂
V2 accidentally used grade 1 comb on shaver and became beardless. Slight weight loss. Bit chilly at night

I remember the IOC re Pistorius et al, taking weeks to decide whether or not having no legs was an unfair advantage in running.
If you ever discover a lost tribe where people bound 100 miles uphill laughing - it's not the shoes.

I love the puma deviate nitro elite, but it's a little harsher to me than the vaporfly after 6 miles. I find the vaporfly is still faster.
I agree. Feels like air, walking, then on blocks when the weight slams down on them. Knee pain
Puma deviate nitro elite 2 or adidas takumi sen 10,for 5-10k race session?
Sen 10 is the best for lower distance. Bit less heft
Takumi sen 9 fits like the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite V1. Both very narrow. Both went to friends. Hope V2 is wider.. 🙄

Hello Ed! Which one is having more cushion Deviate nitro v2 or Deviate nitro elite 2? I'm confused between the two which one to buy😅
The elite is more cushioned. Better all round shoe
Not that I need another running shoe right now, but I'll have to consider this since I love the Deviate Nitro 2 so much. The puma deviate nitro elite 2 in the sales
Or
Saucony speed 4? Saucony pro 3 etc
If you want a max stack the pro 3 is worth it. But, I love the elegance and minimal feel of the dne2. Not to say it isn’t soft!
So tricky as so many good shoes!!
