I applaud you for having your own garden and providing for your family. In this day and age, It's so easy to depend on fast food, junk food, freezer meals etc. Not many people know where their food comes from. Based on those adorable giggles, I have faith that there is still hope, for our children to value food, where it comes from, and how to be self sufficient.

Lovely video! I am growing corn for the first time this year. I live in Alberta Canada in the hail capital of Canada. We have deer, rotten weather, nice weather, snow, hail, bears and that's just summer!!!! I have learned from your video too, thank you. I also appreciate the care you take with your plants. God Bless!!!

Hi George, thank you for this video. This would be my 1st year planting my small vegetable garden in a very small space. I started rooting the seeds in March and planted then in cups. Now they are ready for planting. i have a variety of things going, pumpkins, tomatoes, sweet peppers, corn, beans, egg plan, basil, sage and romaine. Thanks to your video and your great ideas in gardening. Thanks again and God bless :)

Great video, George !! You have a wonderful garden, people don't know how much work and pleasure goes into and comes out of a garden. You seem very knowledgeable on gardening and I 'm sure that you already know this, but I will throw it out there anyway. As you corn grows, you can put 4 metal rods, one in each corner and tie a string from one corner rod to the other to help support the plants from getting knocked down by the wind. Keep up the great work, wishing you a great harvest !!

It's hard to believe such a magnificent garden just started a few months before you did this video! Looks like the garden of Eden probably did. If I ever had an envious cell in my being..... ah well! Just got my first garden planted a couple of weeks ago and in central Texas, it's almost (if not) too late. Even though we did have a couple of days reprieve from the heat, we had already had some over 90 degree days and no rain now for quite awhile. I keep filtering water at the kitchen sink to try to keep up with the plants needs for water since our city water is FULL of sodium and my rain barrels are empty. I'm inspired by you now and even though it's late, I'm going to try to plant corn since it won't take too long to get another 4X4 ready and HEY, since I've got the packet, might as well try it, huh? So enjoying all your videos and hope this year's garden is just as productive for you!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I have tried corn several years but never really successful. I pulled a few short ears one year. May I ask how do you dress your corn bed and what nutrients do you add every five days? I have a compost pile that I add chicken poop too and dead leaves. I also purchased a bag of nitrogen which I used last year but still didn't have much success. this year I want to plant them in a sunnier spot in my yard and see what happens. I also like how you have many of them together. I think that helps protect them from the effect of the wind.

    Thanx for sharing your experience.
Experimenting now with similar (only half as many plants but still 2-3 times the normal yield per sq. ft.) planting but on the ground (not raised bed).
Not that I don't believe you but I would liked to have seen the ears in the fully mature state on the stalk as a final tribute to your efforts.
How big were the ears? Did they develop to the full potential size?
Some of the comments below refer to the "Suckers". There are several (easy to find) university studies that provide evidence that the suckers DO NOT (not shouting, just emphasising) produce any negative effects on the end product. Their results not mine.
Thanx again for sharing. I plan to share my own result as well later when the final products proves out (if in fact it does, but all signs are good right now). We are in Western Montana at 3885' elevation and things are never certain til the proverbial 'Fat Lady' sings ...

Hi George. Well I did what you did and planted my corn also quite close together (4 per square foot). Mine also seemed to come up later (knee high), but shot up in August to above my head. I got about one ear per plant, some beautiful and large and some very sporatic rows of kernels, but even the smallest ones were fabulous tasting. I'm a first time gardener, so pleased I got anything at all. Tomatoes, except cherries, were ruined by the rain of course. Next year better (under cover). I have followed your garden and even made a video diary of my own (Square Foot Gardening - Makkelijke Moestuin by Linda Casey). I hope to tidy things up and get things well tended to for next Spring. Thanks for your videos that helped me get started. How did your corn turn out?

I had corn last year in my 4x6 raised bed and I think I spaced them out almost 10 to 12 inches each. I'm thinking of spacing them about 6 inches this year because last year, I think they were spaced out too far and not all of them were completely pollinated. I think if I space them closer then maybe when the wind blows they will be a little thicker and increase the chances of the pollen making its way onto the silks. Do you think 6 inches is okay?
