They're only sweeping the camps in Laurelhurst because it's people with more money crying about them being there. And then they just come to my neighborhood in Lents since it's a working class neighborhood that is already overrun with camps. Every neighborhood should have to share the burden not just the ones who don't have alot of money.
Good to see...although I feel for the homeless, many have taken advantage. I'm personally tired of the seeing the trash. One thing if they cleaned up after themselves...m adds the the city needs to supply trash receptacles for the disposable of the excess? I know it's a private entity that has the city contracts, but really? At onetime I remember Portland was considered o e of the cleanest cities in America.
Why are they clearing out the homeless camps at Laurelhurst Park? Because it's in a "nice neighborhood"? There's a large area of homeless camps along S.E. 92nd Ave near S.E. Flavel, hmm 🤔
That's not far from my house. They only sweep camps in our neighborhood when they're doing news stories about how bike friendly Portland is and need the Springwater looking clean for their photo shoots smh
Where did they move all the people to? In California when they “clear” a homeless camp they usually move them from a high class neighborhood to middle class working neighborhoods who then see the crime and violence go up.
I live right down the street. The crime taking place in my apartment complex is through the roof right now. The people in this camp need help. When I say help I mean prison and drug treatment. They don’t need your cash, they don’t need your old coats and blankets. They don’t need food. They need a kick in the ass and/or an armed escort out of our state. NOW!!!!
That’s a very nice area and there are a lot of expensive homes there, but the homeless problem around the park is crazy. I would not be too happy if I had paid a million plus for a home and literally had a tent city outside my front window. This should have been cleaned up along time ago, it isn’t downtown, it’s very residential, many families live in the area and their kids play (or used to play) at the park. It might be getting cleaned up now, but they’ll be back because there is no enforcement of the area. It’s just sad to see so many homeless people who need help, but that area is not where they should be camping/living
It’s America. Even our poorest of the poor can be packrats and have more belongings then middle class in other countries. That’s how successful America is.
@@koolpaldolp9756 For sure. And we allow them to steel it. I live right down the street and we’re having such a hard time defending our property it’s insane. These people know the cops aren’t coming if called. They know there won’t be any investigation or any follow up. We won’t attempt to stop them. It’s not worth the trouble we’ll get in.
It will be back in a few days. These Politicians keep saying they want to help the homeless but I never hear about Free drug rehabs opening or The massive mental health programs we need to respond to this. Where Is the Money going cause that's where it needs to start.
They come back, like persistent.......homeless junkies. All that happens is the mess gets cleaned up, and they just bring in more trash. Soon, they will start to freeze

A pretty sad place the Portland government has let this once great city turn into.
Its still great. Just goin thru a rough patch
Thank you to all the people cleaning up the mess left behind in our cities. 🥰

For sure
This is only a band aid to the homeless problem. What did this solve?
You mean tax dollars are actually going to something?... huh... go figure.

City council should be the ones to clean it.

Why do they collect so much stuff? If I were homeless, I would think it better to travel lightly.

It’s the Zombie apocalypse.
Finally. It's a small start but it's a start. They should do this in every city. Maybe decent citizens property value will go back up.
Now they’re camping on the city streets. They’ve just relocated them. Not a solution.
they should have gone in with a flame thrower and cleaned house. do not worry Comrade Wheeler will send them back in in two weeks or less.
