Don't worry about going home so early into the semester. I went home about every 2 weeks. I'm really close to my family and missed them so much. You should go home as often as want especially in first year when you're not used to being away!
Bethany Jayne I go home every weekend bar a couple to look after my horse- my parents do this in the week but I go home to ride. I’ve found it fine!

I come back home from uni EVERY weekend and I think it's great!!! there is a special atmosphere in your family home that you can't find anywhere else 😊

Depends on the home and the family.
I see what you did with the name. You won’t find a special atmosphere elsewhere unless you try though? Don’t isolate yourself from your peers.

Don't worry for me ah ah I don't isolate myself 😂 the idea of my comment is that there is no place like home, I just love being in the country side at home rather that in the big city, I see my friends on the week, but it's also important to keep some time for yourself all alone 😊
I went home every weekend too. It meant I never got to experience homesickness :)

Emily Mutchler It’s all about motivation and ambition. Motivation comes from having clear goals. Just asses what you want from life and if studying is your path to achieve whatever you want to achieve.

When I was at exeter I went home every 6 weeks and it made me hate my time there and I ended up dropping out. Now i’m at cardiff (commuting this year), but the first two years I went home every 2/3 weeks. Other people said i missed out on the uni experience but all people did on the weekends was go out, which wasn’t my scene. Go home as much as you want! If you have a lovely family I don’t see the need to stay at uni until Christmas :)
Ellamarie what are you studying in uni? I’m commuting to usw - from Bridgend! Much prefer commuting as I don’t feel that I’m missing out on the uni experience as I don’t go out on weekends haha!
lyd271 English Lit! Me either; because I went to Exter first for three months (doing psychology) I’m a year older than most people in third year, so my best friends have graduated and are at home with me :) I hate how false uni friendships are too, they seem so forced and I never really clicked with anyone so I’m so glad I commute this year 😂
Ellamarie ah that’s nice you’ve got your home friends to be around then! I completely agree, some people are way too focused on the fake friendships in uni and I’m like I just wanna get my degree😂

I had such an unusual surge of energy today. I did an assignment, the lecturer estimated that it'd take 4 hours to do, he wasn't wrong. I felt like passing hard on everything else, but I still had to have a title page and reference list done for another class. That to me seemed a bit stupid, because the deadline is in two weeks, but we need to have references done already? yeah no.
However, I obviously had to start writing a bit of the essay in order to see what references I'd actually be using and ended up writing short bullet point after point of things I could mention, that I now have almost two pages of stuff to go off of.
That feels so good, even though I want my eternal suffering to end a little bit. Can't wait for Wednesday when my mom will be coming down to see me! Hope everyone will have a nice semi-calm (and productive of course) week.

Sounds great! But yeah, it's weird that you have to have the reference list before the actual essay is due, seems more limiting than actually encouraging you to get the work done early.. good luck! :)
I really like your vlogs. They're never boast-y, it's just real life. You are awesome. I find it really fascinating that you're studying RS. I am a Christian myself. And I wonder if you have any beliefs? Hope you had a wonderful time at home ! When I was at uni, I found myself appreciating my family so much more. I wish university was like it is in the UK, with the campuses and dorms and such, but there just not that much history. And the school systems are completely different. Anyway, lovely vlog as always. My dad indeed has inspired me to work hard at what I do so that I can get to where I would like to be. He grew up in a very poor household in a deprived area but he worked hard and now he owns his own company. I am so glad that I have grown up having known this story because it really prevents my family and me from taking things for granted x

Hey Ruby! I'm in second year, and I know a lot of my friends who did go home throughout the year dealt with a lot more homesickness than the ones who stayed at school all the time. Just something to consider!

How do you work for so long? ( 11-15 hours) I can only work for 2 and barely have concentration/ focus. Please make a video if you can. It’s ok if you can’t because of how busy you are! Hope your enjoying uni 😚😚💗
You really don't need to be doing 11-15 hours of work per day; 4-6 hours will be perfectly sufficient!
tbh i do 3-6 hours of work. its more about efficiency. work to get things done rather than worrying about hours

I come home from Uni every week. The only exception I make is during exams when I concentrate better at the library than at home where my parents distract me every 5 minutes or so ;-;

Do you ever have moments when you’re trying to read and study, but you go through the same page like 3 times and you just don’t know what you were reading about? I was wondering if you have some advice for that kind of situation... my studying is probably different than yours, because I’m a med student and it’s not so much reading and understanding, but rather memorizing lots of information, so basically you need to read one book quite a lot of times. And that takes so much time and energy, that there’s nothing left for other subjects! You really motivate me to be hardworking though. Sorry for my English, it’s not my first language :)
Ruby, what kind of notebooks do you use for lecture notes, revising, etc.? I'm not sure where to find a notebook with lots of room to rewrite my lecture notes.

The trains there have a quiet section? Oh, I would love that! I was trying to read on the train today and had to put up with a bunch of people talking loudly about some silly marathon we had yesterday. That wasn't so bad, because they were nice. But there were several people & it got loud.
But the one that drove me nuts was the guy listening to headphones and rapping/"singing" out loud. Very badly, may I add. Not a tune could be detected. He was so obnoxious! I got off at the next stop and moved cars. I couldn't stand it.
we have that on the fast Trains in Germany, it is so nice. I had a place in one to Amsterdam the calmest 3 hours their I got to sleep and listen to audiobooks

Oh, I love long train rides. My dream is to do one cross country. Or in another country! Right now I have to be content with my local ones back & forth downtown. Not quite the same thing. Sigh.
