- We are forever indebted to the life and legendary artistry of our dear friend and hero, Lyle Mays. We were honored to spend an unforgettable day with Lyle and Alex Acuña filming for our Artist Video Series in 2010. The session featured Lyle’s incredible artistry playing Trilian and Omnisphere, completely improvised in a single take with no prior preparation. We were absolutely blown away and moved by the pure inspiration that unfolded. This is part two of that very special day.
Rest in peace, Lyle Mays.

We've lost Lyle. All the synths on earth just can cry.
And the Steinways too.
The starting bit of this number has the vibes of a Weather Report piece, and one can almost feel Wayne Shorter’s saxophone getting ready to jump in. Gosh, we have lost so many musical greats and it hurts bad.
This music makes me feel as if the sky is weeping for his loss. RIP Lyle!
The greatest atmospheric player in my lifetime. Thank you Lyle. Rest well friend.
To much. RIP Lyle in your heavenly sound. Maestro 🎹 ♾✨
This song is so beautiful, free, fragile, and strong.
Ethereal sound. Two great contemporary jazz giants. Lyle Mays’ unmistakable sound. Just heavenly.
It is a sad day for every music lover. There are no words to describe his artistic contribution and the legacy he leaves to the world. He was the undergird for Pat Metheny Group and a keyboard and piano virtuoso musician who blended all genres of music seemlessly. A Master of analog and digital, he created an environment which drew you in without letting go and at the end leaving you wanting for more. He somehow managed to touch us with his creative genius.
He was the Bach of our times!
RIP Lyle.
Just beautiful. What a gift and what a talent. Sad that he's no longer with us.
I like the smile of both at the end. They comunicate harmonically. Great team.
I am saddened beyond words. To say that I loved this man's music is an understatement. For more than 40 years. Thanks to youtube we can still see and hear this genius.
siempre ha sido para mí uno de los más inspiradores músicos. su forma de interpretar sentir y plasmar en el sonido lo más bello.
Goodbye Lyle. There will never be enough of you. ❤️
First Kobe, now Lyle...I'm sad...again. But I'm so grateful that I can watch this anytime to experience Lyle create wonderful harmonies in such a personal and quiet way. RIP Lyle. I'm so glad we had you for a while.
Remembering back when my husband and I had seen Lyle May's and Pat Matheny together. Sitting in the orchestra pit in Columbus, Ohio at The Ohio Theater and when the two of them played together and I closed my eyes just enjoying the beautiful music they both played for the audience. He had such a talent like no other. 💔🎹🙏
Me hizo recordar a Jaco. Adiós amigo Lyle, y gracias por tantos momentos de felicidad y alegría.
I have always loved this piece since I first heard it on here years ago (as well as AA's superb accompaniment) - in retrospect it has an eerie funereal ring to it … It makes me so sad tonight. RIP Lyle
Yeah, I'm... at a loss for words. There is this, my heart aches.
Bellisimo!!!!!!

Beautiful..simply beautiful.
Beautiful...
What a beautiful melody to remember him by.
There are many beautiful works to listen and remember him by..., both solo and with others... ❤️.. RIP Lyle Mays...
Tear of joy, tear of pain, from France ...
OMG.....is there anything more beautiful than music like this? I really don’t think so!!!!!! This is improv!!! From the very deepest part of your soul!!!!
Out of this world Genius !!!

HOY 08 DE JUNIO DEL 2020 ME HE ENTERADO DE QUE HA PARTIDO LILE MAIS , ESCUCHE SU MUSICA ATRAVES DE LA ESTACION DE RADIO 95.3 FM. AQUI EN EN LA CD. DE MEXICO. ESTO FUE EN EL AÑO DE 1989. TODOS LOS DISCOS QUE GRABO CON PATH METENY, SIN LA INTERVENCION DE LILE MAYS, SE ESCUCHAVA FALTA DE ALMA PORQUE SU MUSICA SI TE LLEGA EN LO MAS PROFUNDO DE TU SER, AL MENOS A MI ESO SUCEDE CADA VEZ QUE ESCUCHO SUS INTERVENCIONES Y HAY UN DISCO DE EL QUE SE LLAMA STREET DREAMS QUE FUE LA PRIMERA MUSICA QUE ESCUCHE EN ESA ESTACION. ADIOS LILE MAYS.
What a killer piece of music. Incredible
Awesome!
Una pena su partida Maestro!!!
Quite interesting phenomenon: video that is 10 years old doesn't have any comments (for 10 years) until the man dies.
Not many people were aware of this, apparently. Death causes strange things to happen, like discover something you'd have liked years ago if you'd only known.

Greg W We enabled comments after the news of Lyle’s passing in order for people to be able to leave their tributes.
I've listened to this series many times and simply marveled...as so many many other's had I'm certain.
Happy 70th Heavenly Birthday, Lyle Mays.
Bless you Lyle & Thx
Lyle Mays for ever
How great was that!!
Some fabulously lyrical melodic invention
We have lost several legendary jazz keyboardists for the past few years. First, George Duke, then Joe Sample, and now Lyle Mays. Lyle was a member of the Pat Metheny Group. We love him and we miss him!
And the incomparable Joe Zawinal of course...
May You Rest In Peace Maestro! 🙏🏼
genijalno i divno
Sounds like Weather Report.. beautiful !
Perhaps a little like Zawinul's Speechless, featuring Pastorius.
Can’t love this enough
Please, someone, figure out how to release this music session for legal purchase. This could be the last time Lyle was in the studio for all I know? I would pay good money to hear Lyle interpret "Chopsticks" at this point. Please make this happen?
This is creativity...
A really good musician a genius
Fantástica sensibilidade

Such a lost for Humanity...!
Some smart questioning. Love the chopsticks comment Truth be told, so would I😉
Hej då Lyle från Sweden.
In fact this is like if Pedro Aznar was playing the bass, for those of you who don't know Aznar is also a monstrous bass player...I always though May's and Aznar should had done an Album together,,only in my dreams. Love you always Lyle..will miss you
Sounds a little like Danny Gottlieb at moments too.
@@stuartdryer1352 alright. I will give out a no so well known secret. CHECK it out if you find it. Aznar, Gotlieb, Mays, Metheny on Contemplacion, a Pedro Aznar Album....you thank me later....
Please check out Lyle’s work (and Danny Gottlieb) on Nando Lauria’s albums. Nando was with PMG on The Way Up tour, and I believe any Mays affectionate will find his work with Nando....well, extraordinary....as is everything Lyle did. The tune Saudade (Longing) is a start, and they’
Re all on RUclips.
I feel most fortunate to have discovered Lyle’s work with Nando after his passing. It’s given me something to listen to and smile at Lyle’s joy and mastery.

안녕, 라일. 하늘, 신의 곁에서 그가 주신 선물을 마음껏 펼쳐 보이길.
CONQUIEN FUESE HARIA LA MUSICA QUE LE LLEGARA A ALGUIEN EN SU VIDA.
Does anyone know what caused Lyle to pass?
what a giant he was...............goodbye!
Honestamente, sin batería sonaría más lindo.
Lyle´s death is a big catastrophy for the music world.
