This illustrates the plan builders use - ABSOLUTE MINIMUM ALLOWED. Likewise, it illustrates why home buyers quickly HATE BUILDERS, AND SAY NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THEM. While it is true that lamp cords - if the lamp is placed on the floor, can reach an outlet, it also pretty much guarantees the need for those nasty extension cords at some pint in that room.
But what is that to the builder, right? He has your money, and he saved two dollars and ten cents by not throwing in an extra outlet (As of today, outlet box 85 cents, 75 cents for one of the cheap residential grade receptacles the homeowner will have to replace in a year or two when the cord keep falling out, and 50 cents for the additional romex. All prices check two minutes ago on 4/28/2024 at Lowe's.)
