- Royal Enfield Meteor 350 vs Honda Highness CB350 Acceleration Test - You asked for it, and it is finally here. In this video, I try to find out which of these two motorcycles has better real world performance. Which will pull away from traffic when you just roll on the throttle at speed.
This is not a proper drag race - I don't really care about them. This is not about outright acceleration from 0-100 and top speed runs. Almost all owners of the Honda Highness CB350 and the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 will never do drag races or try to hit the top speed of their motorcycles.
Both the riders in this video weigh 80 kg, so that is one aspect that is taken care of. Both the bikes were filled to the brim so that also is a non-factor in this test.
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 in this video has been provided to me by my good friend Jaideep Singh Chahal AKA Boss Man, who runs a few Royal Enfield dealerships in Punjab. I plan to do a series of videos on the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 - I have been given the top of the range bike, the Supernova. The windscreen is missing from this bike as it is yet to reach dealership.
The videos will also include a comparison with the Honda Highness CB350 from a user's perspective. This series will not be about 0-100 timings, not about the top speed, but information that you as a rider will find helpful.

In Punjab either you buy a motorbike or a Bullet.What can replace Bullet is a better Bullet,which it seems will be launched with new Engine and chassis in due course of time. Guys going for motorbike may go for CB350.
Also I saw in Kerala,there is an emotional attachment with bullet,even if it is inferior to an other bike they'd prefer bullet.

Koi bhi chij tab tak better hoti hai jab tak uska alternative nahi hota hai but abhi highness hai that is far better that bullet I am damn sure next generation of highness will get more impact on bullet because hand has engine refinement and technology

Looks like the 5th in the H'ness is a tall overdrive meant for fuel economy. In town rides will mostly use 1st to 4th gears and 5th is for the highway where the rpm drops. The bike will have to drop a gear or two to overtake on the highway.
This is the usual characteristic of a high torque motor paired with a wide-ratio 5-speed gearbox.

Came to say this! People are discussing the 5th gear slow acceleration as a drawback where it's really not. Just use the slipper clutch assistance for a quick downshift and gun it!

This is major difference. I never put my hiness on 5th until I cross 80-90. Its just because of tall gearing. Honda is decently faster. Though it depends upon rider many times. We can't match acceleration of two bikes when the gear shift is so much different. There is no way hiness can be rode on 5th at 50kmph.
So RE made a bike where we can see something clearly on the rear view mirrors and it's a Honda this time.

Agree completely with you Abhinav.. However gears are what we have on our bikes.. To change.. No one will be behind anyone in the se gear.. Specially when downshifting and doing clutch play on throttle.. However it was a good pull in gear video.. Kudos to you👌for pulling off this video. However in gear acceleration Enfield will bite tye dust for sure.

Gear ratios on both these bikes are different as is evident. In the case of the Meteor, I was given to understand by the Sales guy that the 5th gear is an "Overdrive", meant for when cruising on the highways. As its been designed as a cruiser.

Technical yet simple! An excellent comparo Abhinav! I'd say you hit the bullseye and set the benchmark on comparos! Got to agree that the meteor might be a better tourer and more comfortable for those who don't like to shift gears frequently. But my preference still stays with the Honda at this point!

Absolutely brilliant comparison. The 650 Royal Enfield looks to be a brilliant bike, but the Meteor 350 looks more fun, and better and comfier seat and feet position. For older riders the new 350 looks superb. I`d go for the Meteor over the Highness as the Meteor has a lower seat, the feet and softer suspension, and the Meteors gearing looks better too for the CC for less changing. They got this bike so right. Thank You.
That's a new way of comparing a bike. Drag race between two bikes depends on the rider and how he uses clutch. This is better and makes sense as the real fight between two machines is how they run at medium and high gears. Good job.

What I feel is the 5th gears are for cruising and shouldn't be used for overtaking or accelerate or have we become too lazy to downshift. 😂😜.
I am eagerly waiting for comparision on which is better for 1. sitting/comofort/backpain or not 2. for city riding which is more suitable 3. tell your pick/opinion to guide me on whats a better option as a whole package. If possible please make this happen as both bikes is around 2L plus and I want my money well spent. Thank you
Brother CB in honda itself means City Bike, hope u got the answer. Its roadster ergos and commanding seating position makes commutes a breeze.

I must say dt ds comparison was unfair for the Honda. Kind of like a DOLPHIN challenging a CHEETAH to a swimming contest. A fair comparison would have been a 0-100kmph acceleration, top speed test or a highway cruising mileage test.

no, this test is very much practical... how many times will you ride 0-100 in day to day life, unless you are in some race. acceleration when you are cruising and want to overtake some vehicle is what we experience frequently, and this test perfectly depicts it.
@@athreshkumar9643 we have gears for that. All riders know dt instant acceleration in just a downshift away and if you say dt u r lazy to twitch a single muscle and downshift, u should most probably consider a scooty. Besides I'm sure dt highness at 4th gear can beat meteor at 5th.

See, it's not about twitching muscle or moving the leg, when you downshift at high speeds, you need to get very conscious to adjust the high revving of down gear to that speed.. and if you have to do this frequently, it's not a pleasant thing. I have such experience when driving diesel cars, where you need to downshift sometimes, to overtake vehicles. And when you are spending close to 1.9L on bike, you don't want such things. I don't understand why you taking it personally, or jumping guns to defend it. It's just an opinion, take it easy.
@@athreshkumar9643 obviously I prefer the cb350, dts why I'm voicing out the injustice meted out in ds comparison. Nyway regarding the gearing, highness engine is mated to accelerate faster in the lower gears and cruise at a lower rpm in the fifth in the highway, which the meteor fails to do judging by the video. And you must not compare a bike to a diesel car, I'm aware of how difficult it is to shift gears in a diesel car.

@@Torquebeast650 There is nothing intrinsically bad about the old Bullet engine that makes it vibrate more
All british bikes with OHV long stroke engine and no counter balancer shaft vibrate like hell - its the design limitation
For that matter, even the KTM Duke 690 that was a single cylinder bike was considered a horribly vibrating motorbike.
Now the RE is an SOHC engine with a counter balancer and 87mm stroke
It gives up vibration, but it also wont idle at 600 RPM like the old bullet or produce loads of torque at low RPMs

So if you like to cruise then go for meteor and if you are looking for a bike to use in city then go for hness. I tested both and they are equally good im more of a hness guy because it suited me.

In this vedio ...i used headphone to Hear sounds of both these machines...and final verdict is that ...I could feel the thump of the CB 350 rolling beside the Thunderbird (ops sorry Meteor 😜)...

True, but in cities or towns without the bigwing showroom, it feels like Meteor is unopposed. Honda should consider this and do something. Personally, I love both.
@@rahulrajendran2024 yes, but bigwing centres can generate revenue to keep running that way and they offer a very premium experience, and knowing that cb350 is being sold/serviced alongside the superbikes is another feeling altogether.
@@krish4292 true that. Upon inquiry, they told that the nearest big wing will provide premium doorstep service. That's a consolation, but again with longer delivery time/service. If the trade-off is worth the Highness, one should really go for it.
Still Honda is way ahead in all other departments except for this 5th gear acceleration exercise.
Nope..meteor is way ahead in seat comfort..both pillion and rider ..Also comfortable for shorter rider..Honda wins in low end torque..

But again the fifth gear the speed maxes out in meteor. But in honda it revs low and gives good milage. Confused
Gautham Sakthi you can also rev low in the meteor as well. He was just accelerating hard to show the difference in torque bands and gearing. You can comfortably cruise b/w 80 to 100 at low revs in the meteor too
In a proper drag race, cb350's gonna win, n that's definitely punch wid mileage. Choose after test ride of both n go wid ur own gutfeel.
@@vikaspatel7485 but what will u do with 130 kmph....i mean even 100 kmph is very high speed....probably people will go at near 100 for safety reasons...and even lower....moreover meteor literally has better comfort and style...though cb350 has better maneuvering and and little better pickup at low gears...at d end depends on the buyer... what's the priority is....for me...better pick up at low gears didn't matter much as difference is so little...and as for easy maneuvering...well...meteor is not that hard either....amd i do need that a little better style....cb350 looks like a splendour to some extent😂....well have to let go the easy maneuvering of cb350

Here is my thoughts..
If there is more strech of road a head, Honda still overtake re . 4th and 5th are in tall ratios which lacks power but for Honda 5th is cruising gear, no good for over takes.. that means re is more rideable in city in top gear than Honda but for highway honda engine is very relaxed since it has tall gear ratio..
The decisions regarding gear ratios are taken at the design stage. It reflects the core parameters each manufacturer has set out to achieve. Nothing else. In that respect, both have succeeded.

Pretty much. They are both great for city and highway. But slightly better than each other in individual respects. But both are above par for anything and everything.
Honda rider has been showed fraudulence in gear 1/2/3/4, he had upshift gear while racing 👈 innocent meteor rider 😔

Better option to show overtaking would be to be at 90 KMPH in 5th on both....then rev....but I know u won't do that....coz Meteor won't perform there😀

Dude you make no sense , honda had such a huge time to pickup the torque and overtake meteor but why didn't it ? No matter 90 kmph or 50 kmph in 5th gear honda may overtake for an instance after that meteor will overtake it in the 5th gear

By the time meteor catches the fifth gear, Honda will have finished the game. Power matters a lot because I can clearly see what happens when it comes to 1/2/3/4 gear.

You dont need to wait for the gears to get its maximum speed....In that sense also I think meteor can beat honda by a great margin
