    Diamond cup is the only one I felt I could do martial arts with. I was practicing take downs with partner on my first few jujitsu classes and he complained to me during a inner thigh throw that I hit him in the groin. I felt it was just irresponsible for him to not be wearing a cup and he shouldn’t be being so pissed about someone who is new barely grazing him. I was absolutely shocked that anyone wouldn’t wear a cup as a white belt.
    At the time it felt like people are just embarrassed or lazy about wearing one. Doing like knee slide passes, uchimatas and all sorts of floating passes it seems like getting kneed or kicked would be something you should accept is you refuse to protect yourself. I wasn’t in anyway trying to hit him and was surprised when he made it so emotionally heated. Honestly I quit that day because I just couldn’t understand that gym at all. Everyone felt kinda down and depressed especially the teacher and realizing I was the only one wearing a cup I felt and trying to learn every mess up would be read as irresponsible but I have years of Muay Thai training and had never gotten a single complaint. Don’t know what my point is except I guess I just don’t understand why it isn’t something normal given JuJitsu has more shin to crotch and elbow to crotch contact than a Bruce Lee film. Why do so many people not protect themselves when there white belts? I feel like it was just a bad environment but what you’re saying makes no sense to me besides the competition rules. But the UFC allows metal cups and If your most likely injury in JuJitsu is getting hit in the junk why is it taboo?

    • @johnnycaralta
      @johnnycaralta 2 года назад +4

      Because it's practically cheating. If you armbar somebody with a cup, you have an unfair advantage because of the solid fulcrum. Wearing a cup in pure jiu jitsu is disrespectful to your training partners. If you can't handle being hit in the nuts, learn to avoid it.
      To be fair, I had to have surgery because of ruptured nut. I still won't wear a cup though, for the aforementioned reasons.

      Clearly you don't have saggy balls.
      You wouldn't understand.
      And it's not cheating if everyone protects their balls. Because THEY SHOULD.
      Why would I want soft Dick and Ball contact while rolling? Disgusting.

    Separate benefit is that the cup raises your groin area and will help your armbar get more leverage.

    I wore a cup for a couple years until it shifted on me while doing an arm bar while practicing. So some of the package was out and some was inside. It wasn't pleasant. IBJJF doesn't allow them so I never use them now. And on mouth pieces, if you get one made from the dentist you really don't feel like you are wearing one.

    I can understand both sides of this but I think the risk of catching a hard knee elbow or a bigger guy just falling on you in the wrong way and nailing you in the nuts being a bigger risk. Some of these guys on here saying you just gotta man up and deal with it and saying it just hurts a little bit sounds crazy to me. That shit will put you down for several minutes

  • @onenesskidsclub7375

    Last week during a friendly roll I lapel dragged a lighter opponent with a bit too much force and they fell forward on top of me driving their knee hard into my groin. I waited for the intense pain to subside but it just wasn’t going away. I ended up getting taken to hospital in an ambulance where they took me to surgery. My right testicle was ruptured and had to be removed.
    Don’t underestimate the danger of groin shots. To ban foul cups in BJJ competition is completely irresponsible. I wrote to the IBJJF but got no reply. Something needs to be done to change this situation.

      Try to focus on your technique. If you go like it's the mundials then they're likely to shut your shit down quickly. Whereas if you play at jiu jitsu and try to learn from it you'll both get a lot more out of it. Might be different at a top competitive gym but this is a general rule of thumb.

    Hey, I had a question. Not sure if this comment section is the right place to post it. I go to a gym tat doesn't have a particularly high level of competition in jiu jisu. The highest we have here are blue belts but they're pretty good too. But the point is that alongside myself, there are tons of beginners who train there. Now, even though I'm a white belt, I have some experience with the techniques, especially with mount escapes and certain guard passes.
    Here's where I have a major doubt. When training with partners who are completely new to this, I often am in situations where they're either drilling the technique incorrectly, or stopping every couple of seconds because they're confused about what to do (and this is after the instructor demonstrates the technique a number of times, so they feel awkward to ask again). In such situations, should I just shut up and let them do their incorrect thing? Because I don't want to be "THAT guy" who sucks and still feels the need to instruct less experienced people about what to do.
    What makes it even more frustrating is that when the new person is doing the technique incorrectly, and insists that I am the one who doing it wrong and wants to instruct me instead of asking the coach. What should I do in such situations? Nowadays I don't worry about asking the coaches to repeat a technique as many times as I need to see it to understand it, but newbies still have that reservations. How can I get around this without choosing to exclusively train with more experienced people?

    • @TheMothaDuckingHamMan
      @TheMothaDuckingHamMan Год назад

      I always help people until it's perfect and if they're in the gym for the right reasons they appreciate it. when there's a disagreement I try both ways to understand their perspective - sometimes I need the help of a coach to explain exactly why we are doing things a certain way, even though I'm a higher belt nowadays I still miss little details at the start of the drills but by the end, me and partner are in a good spot with the technique. I want them to give feedback to me and therefore it is in my best interest to have them understand the technique so we can compare and improve

      There's a knack to putting in the appropriate amount of resistance when drilling techniques that you pick up soon enough. It depends on the relative size/strength/skill of your partner. It's good to make them work a bit to land the technique correctly but not so much that you fight everything to the death. With takedowns, breakfalls are an intentional action and you do 'choose' to go down safely a lot of the time rather than being thrown against your will, especially in drilling.
