    You might wanna put rubber soles on the bottom of the stilts so it doesn't mess up floors and so you have more traction on the laminate or tiled floors of convention centres

      @schoolsout15 6 лет назад +26

      Another tip if you plan on making these yourself? Do what I did and screw some plywood to the bottom of the stilt so that if you look at it from the front, the stilt looks like an upside down T. This helps distribute weight better, and balances you out.

    Thank you so much! I'm going to try to make a version that looks like landing gear for a warplane mimic costume. Some reasonably priced wheelbarrow tires would work nicely in place of actual plane tires because of scale. The fact that these already have a flat base is PERFECT for achieving that 4-wheel landing gear shape.

    I've made a pair of these, but they feel off. The shelving connector keeps feeling likes its pushing into my leg, and my Dad says it looks like you used a 1 by 6 in the video instead of a 1 by 4, which could be why it feels like it's doing so.
    I also had the screw that acts as the anchor for the bungie cord snap off. I would appreciate some further elaboration on how to securely keep the bungie on as well
    I really want to make one of these for a ren fair character

    Anybody know the load weight for these things? I'm 275 pounds and most drywall stilts or the like aren't rated for more than 230..that's usually per leg so it's not too bad if you stand still cause that's about 460 total for them..but when you move that's another story. I'd like to try some stilts but I pretty much ave to make them myself or spend high bucks to get some that'll hold my fat butt without failing on the first step.

    • @Ayilachan

      Where he shows adding the block 'so your toes don't take all the weight', that's supposed to line up approximately with the ball of your foot so your toes go over the top of the little block. It'll bend the sole of the shoes a little, but it'll give more of a high heel effect rather than a ballet shoe effect

      @2hotturkey 9 лет назад

      I'm assuming this was his first draft. Not to mention, I feel if you lowered the angle too much, you would lose much of the effect. I would try beveling the rear edges and thinning the entire structure out, width-wise, to make it walk easier and look better.

      Kyle here (the guy in the video). My legs were actually not too tired at all, especially with the bungee cord on there. And 2hotturkey is right. If you lower the angle too much, you lose the effect. Plus you put more stress on the wood that way.

    this will work great for my Dragon shark costume I'm planning, still a plan....

    • @Clonetos
      @Clonetos 9 лет назад

      ***** how so? Explain? I thought it be interesting to see a creature suit made like that, it won't be a true dragon but rather a type of shark adapted to land, think of it like the pokemon Garchomp but more based on the great white or tiger shark than a hammer head.
      The whole thing is laid out too, a creature that is like a sauropod, has long fins that double as "wings" of sort and a semi long neck and large back fin.

    • @Clonetos
      @Clonetos 9 лет назад +2

      ***** well in a sort of pseudo science since it doesn't exist allow me to give you a sort of biological stand point.
      You see if in theory if one were to exist it would have had to evolve to walk on land for two reasons, food and versitility.
      In the wild sharks are constantly moving and thus NEVER rest because if they do they drown, simple as that. This species of shark came onto land to escape that in order to be a more adept predator. Then you got the fact that the ocean while covering 75% of the surface of the earth is a bit barren at times, on land the dragon shark would have a much more easier time getting prey than it would in the ocean, not to say it doesn't got into the water from time to time but it mostly hunts on land.
      then you got the question of "Why is it called a dragon then" Well mostly appearance to be honest, like I said theropod like structure (accidentally typed sauropod)
      but not only that but it's fins look like wings, now it can pseudo glide, but not far it mostly flaps them in order to accelerate it's momentum when chasing down prey.
      But then you got the biggest thing about it...it doesn't exist, it's just a costume idea silly

    • @Clonetos
      @Clonetos 9 лет назад +3

      ***** hey you're the one getting you panties in a bunch over a costume idea that hasn't even been blue printed yet...

    Dude, you clearly said 1x4 planks, but what you are using are clearly 1x6, as is evidenced by the two 2" wide structures underneith having a 2" gap in between. Plz make a pop up to correct that. Lumber is not cheap.
