lol I have no idea what the "right" way is, but that's how I was taught to do it when I was working as a housekeeper!! Next time I'll show you the pocket fold for hand towels 🤯 hahahahaha
Oh my gosh!! A new Lala video!! I’ve honestly been kinda worried. I must admit, I’ve gone back to your channel a few times to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Happy to have a new book video to watch!!
Your comment about how Icarus is written in less of a way how teenagers sound and more of a way of how teenagers feel and experience everything in such a grandiose and dramatic way is exactly why I loved John Green’s books growing up. I haven’t read anything by K. Ancrum, but your description of their writing reminds me how I typically describe John Green’s writing and it was great to hear somebody echo those thoughts about certain YA authors.
Your beachball selfie 😂 love that you can have a sense of humor in such an uncomfortable time, glad you're feeling bette. Your Sunday video was def missed
I'm so sorry I didn't cross my fingers the first time 😭. I was distracted 😔. Glad your pressure to make sure I crossed the second time worked out well. ✊️
That bike trail was amazing! Your allergy attack decidedly less so. Hopefully you can get real help for that soon. ❤ So glad you got to experience the hot dog fingers!
So good to have you back, and I'm glad you're feeling better! It's so interesting to see people read about Kaikeyi and Ganga as fantasy characters in novels instead of mythological characters in Hindu epics. I'm not sure if I can explain what I mean by that? It's like...well, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana are the two big epics of Hindu mythology, just like the Iliad and Odyssey in Greek mythology. So, because Indian kids have grown up knowing these stories, it's hard to be triggered by the characters' actions (just like we don't get shocked by Medea's actions or Zeus' scandals). I think Vaishnavi Patel is attempting to do something similar to Madeline Miller - trying to portray these female characters as living, breathing beings with hopes and desires, and not just pawns in a larger epic story. I'm definitely interested in reading both her books.
Recently picked up There's Always This Year in no small part thanks to your love of A Little Devil in America, and it's a thing of beauty; can't wait for you to get to it. Thank you for another great video; it's always a joy.
I love how we're all so used to you uploading consistently that everybody was incredibly worried when you missed a week for once Haven't watched the video yet, but hope you're feeling better and that the allergies are sorted out!
Love this idea! Also what a beautiful place to ride. I noticed we hadn't had a vid from you as I usually have you keep me company on my drive to work on the days I go into the office. Im glad you are feeling better and so sorry you have been going through the allergies (good luck with your allergy appt!!!)
Another day, another Hanif slay 💅🏼💅🏼💅🏼 so exciting to see you pick up another hanif book, Kayla! Also so crazy and fun to see you show the pages of the book and I see “two dollar radio” on the camera. That’s an independent publisher just down the road from my house in Columbus Ohio and they were hanifs first publisher before he was picked up by penguin random house 🖤🖤
First, I’ve taken on this way of folding towels since I happened to be also folding laundry while watching this-so loving this way better than what I was doing! So thank you for that-any great and easy tips for folding t-shirts? Who knew I’d get a laundry tip while watching a reading video! 😊 That’s so scary having allergy flare ups and not knowing yet what you’re allergic to!! I hope they find out for you soon so you can be back in control. I definitely also thought ‘when did Liam get so tall?!’ when you posted that pic 😂 very cool about the robotics. And I can’t wait for whatever video we get next from you!!
I recently moved away from the PNW and your nature shots are exactly what I need right now for my homesickness. That bike trail was wild! I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope that continues!
I haven’t read any K. Ancrum, but I always laugh when people critique YA for not being what teens or kids sound like… as if all teens and kids are the same! UnCarly just did a video on John Green where she addresses that critique, and it essentially boiled down to “sorry you weren’t a pretentious teenager, but SOME OF US WERE” haha. Some of us were reading Shakespeare for fun, privately researching theological deconstruction, and writing extra credit long-form creative fiction our teachers didn’t ask for 😂
Hope you're on the mend and that these allergies get figured out soon!! I loved They Can't Kill Us Till They Kill Us so much - 5 stars for real. I think the Fall Out Boy chapter hit me real hard and had me locked in. His writing is incredible.
Hope you’re feeling better! I’m currently under the weather and your video brightened my day. I’ve been waiting for you to finally read They Can’t Kill Us… and am so glad you mentioned the Serena Williams essay because it was one of my favorites!
you poor lady 💔 i’ve been through some allergy stuff too, the exhaustion that comes along with it is so much. I’m happy to see that you’re feeling up to talking to the camera again, hopefully you will be able to get answers soon!
So happy to see your smiling face again ❤ Glad you have been feeling a bit better and I hope it continues that way. I'm looking forward to reading Icarus myself soon!
Hope you are feeling better! Loving your videos, it has thrown me back into the reading world. Finished ‘Comfort me with Apples’ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and ‘Silent Patient’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ whilst on holiday. Downloaded ‘Bunny’ and ‘The Measure’ ready for an 11 hr flight next week!! Love your recommendations xx
I'm glad you're feeling better! ❤ I just read Icarus a few weeks ago and it healed part of my inner child. It was my first book by K. Ancrum and it definitely won't be my last!
Did you start having the allergic reactions after your recent Covid infection? I developed an allergy to some tree nuts post-Covid which was fun to discover 🙃
Yeah, I don't think there's been a study yet, but I've seen many people who suddenly have allergies after contracting Covid (myself included) so there is probably a link. We really don't know enough about the long-term effects of Covid.
So glad to see you again! Hope you continue to feel better!! ❤ If you haven’t read Strange Weather by Joe Hill, I highly recommend it. It contains 4 strange horror short stories and they are phenomenal!
BRB gonna binge Kayla videos while I wait to see if my sprained foot heals! I had a hellacious weekend. Friday night, I was throwing up, awake for 26 hours, got fitful sleep. I slept all day Saturday and then at 11pm I missed the last 3 stairs and landed on my toes. I spent Sunday in urgent care, and they say my foot in sprained but there’s so much swelling that it could be broken and the swelling could be hiding any breaks. My toes are purple. I get home Sunday, ready to sleep. I find an engorged tick on my leg with a bullseye around it. Spent Monday at my doctors office, got the antibiotics that will hopefully prevent Lyme disease but the tick could have been attached for too long so I just have to wait and see if the bite heals and if I’ll get sick. I had a terrible migraine for 2 days. It was a nightmare. Sorry for the book, but your videos make me so happy. Please ignore the random likes from older videos that may pop up😂
I don’t want to add to any medical advice however similar thing happened to my friend because we was biking through a trail and the city had just mowed a park nearby and mowed through poison oak or poison ivy and kicked all that shit into the air. Turns out a bunch of folks left that trail all ballooned out.
Glad you’re feeling better Kayla💜!! I sadly DNFd Icarus! Not sure if it was the audiobook narrator or how it was written but I could not get into it at all😭 It was so jarring for some reason, I think it was a me issue! As a Hip-Hop, film & general pop culture fan I think I’m going to have to pick up Hanif Abdurraqib!!
Lmao I wasn’t fully watching the first time you told us to cross our fingers so I didn’t actually 😬 but I did the second time 😂 and I’m so glad it worked out !! This was such a fun video and I am glad you’re on the mend 💛💛💛
The way I thought "how's Kayla feeling?" on an almost daily basis?! Glad you're feeling more like yourself again! Sooo glad I discovered Hanif Abdurragib because of you! 💜
How many gray towels to do you own!? LOL Hope your allergies were a one time thing, that did not look fun! I loved your thoughts on how reading an author you know makes you feel. I totally grokked what you said.
If you're looking for a good haunted horse short story you have to check out The House Where Death Lives. It's an anthology coming out later this year. I read it on netgalley. It is ya but it starts from the attic and goes down the floors to the grounds with each story being a different "location". Lots of LGBTQ+ rep too!
Oh Kayla!!! My boyfriend is allergic to nuts and when he accidentally consumes a little bit he gets exactly like how you looked, allergies are scary! I’m sending you love and health and fingers crossed the cause is found out soon 🤞🏻 ❤🎉
Also not my previous comment of 'what are you going to do if none of the 5 star authors give you a 5 star book' coming true, I apologize for spreading that energy into the world😭😂
I’ve taken a lot more than one thing from this video but what I am focusing on is.. I’ve lived in vancouver for a decade & have never had chipotle before 😬 maybe I need to fix that
I hope the allergist can figure out what’s going on! I had to go to one in March and they finally found out I was mildly allergic to propylene glycol, which is an ingredient found in a ton of my skincare/makeup! Since getting new propylene glycol free products my skin has improved. I’m the same age as you and I swear I become allergic to something new everyday, does it come with turning 34?!
Have you read Love is a Mixtape by Rob Sheffield? Because now I’m super curious on your thoughts on it! I wouldn’t have associated it with you before this video but now I’m curious!!
"His name is Icarus"
oh, I wonder what will be the metaphor for him flying too close to the sun
"He meats this guy called Helios"
there it is! 😂
I’ve been thinking about you! Sincerely hope you’re on the mend, you deserve lots of rest and care ❤️🩹
Thanks bestie!!
What's wrong is she ok??
Thank you for demonstrating how to properly fold towels. I didn't realize this was a life skill i wasn't aware i lacked
lol I have no idea what the "right" way is, but that's how I was taught to do it when I was working as a housekeeper!! Next time I'll show you the pocket fold for hand towels 🤯 hahahahaha
The towel folding!!! 🧐
Omg towel folding intermission next video please 😂
Oh my gosh!! A new Lala video!! I’ve honestly been kinda worried. I must admit, I’ve gone back to your channel a few times to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Happy to have a new book video to watch!!
"But it's whatever I'm in the mood for in the moment" okay Miss Mood Reader 😌💅

I positively lost my shit when I checked my subscriptions page and saw this!! I hope you’re feeling better
I'm so sorry I didn't cross my fingers the first time 😭. I was distracted 😔.
Glad your pressure to make sure I crossed the second time worked out well. ✊️
So glad you’re feeling more like yourself!! I’ve missed you, glad to have you back!
you totally called me out for not crossing my fingers 💀 i learned my lesson, i will always actually do it from now on i’m so sorry

the lipstick/sweater combo you wore for the last clip of Goddess of The River was so beautiful!

So glad you're feeling better! ❤

You were right. I didn't cross my fingers... but I did for the second one. I have learned my lesson. ❤
Love your shirt with oranges very cute.

@@BooksandLala yes it can be! Definitely ask the allergist! I know someone dealing with something similar after her covid infection.

I just read Opinions by Roxane Gay that is the same idea of They Can’t Kill Us
If you're looking for a good haunted horse short story you have to check out The House Where Death Lives. It's an anthology coming out later this year. I read it on netgalley. I did not realize that the audiobook was in conversation with the book re: They Can't Kill Us so now i need to reread via audio.
I love the cover of Icarus 😩
I swear I was just thinking like 30 seconds before you uploaded ‘I wonder when Kayla will upload?’ … Am I psychic? Lol
Happy you’re back!
5:28 i truly thought you were folding the same towel over and over again
Oh Kayla!!! My boyfriend is allergic to nuts and when he accidentally consumes a little bit he gets exactly like how you looked, allergies are scary! I’m sending you love and health and fingers crossed the cause is found out soon 🤞🏻 ❤🎉

Patience of a Dead Man. Great haunted house story!

Have you read Love is a Mixtape by Rob Sheffield? Because now I’m super curious on your thoughts on it! I wouldn’t have associated it with you before this video but now I’m curious!!
Chipotle is so satisfying and delicious LIVE YOUR TRUTH
What is the scariest book you’ve read? I’m having a hard time finding an actual scary horror book.
I was also obsessed with the Doug and Judy story but the last story of Spin a Black Yarn ruined the whole collection for me
Need to recommend Gallows Hill by Darce Coates for your haunted house journey
