Well you bothered so thank you!
Thank you sir, I insta-skip videos without chapters nowadays, but not without a quick glance at the comments to see if some hero such as yourself has done the good work. You are appreciated.
Thanx man
Sir, you've earned my subscription. Its my first time coming across your channel, and I can hear the passion in your voice. Im not even a big jrpg fan and didnt really have an interest in playing any. But after watching this, there are several that I'd like to try out in the future
Trails of Nayuta was my personal goty 2023!
Such a brilliant action RPG à la Ys with the difference of having short stage segments instead of a whole world which made it very fastpaced.
I really hope that the Switch port of Tokyo Xanadu eX will make it over to the west very soon.
Bro i just finished nayuta and i agree its a fun chill game with good story 😂
Not a remaster but Persona 5 Royal is everything I wish to see in a remaster, it addresses the major flaws in the game and focuses on adding new features instead of just more pixels like most remasters out there.
Yep before i didn't bother using guns since when you run out of bullets your guns are useless until you leave the dungeon. In royal your guns are refilled after the battle is over
It bothers me that Atlus forces you to repurchase the game instead of just releasing DLC.
@@PacketWranglerI don’t see how they could do that. It’s essentially a different game, there’s no way it could be done as dlc.
@@eleazarperezjimenez8360 It's been done so many times and you say something THAT stupid?
@@AzureRoxeit was a lot to be added to be DLC, and was actually better to be released how it was, so new players could play it without having to buy the original game then DLC. If I'm not a huge fan of a game, I'm not buying DLC for something. So they definitely did it the right way imo. I had no issue with buying Royal at full price even after buying the Vanilla version.
Code of princess EX is not switch exclusive, it's also on PC
Please include bookmarks for each game lol
1:55 Grandia II had a PC port from back then, and remaster is based on it. Original remaster is included as "beta" version, which is good for people who want to play it in 4:3.
It's amazing how many games I managed to buy or wishlist on Steam last year! When I was little, the ONLY jRPGs on PC were FF7 & 8, Grandia II and the Last Remnant, also Breath of Fire IV and probably a few obscure ports I missed, but I only got these and rest was emulated. Now? Almost everything is on PC.
Tales of eternia needs a remaster.
Bring us Tales of Rebirth localized too while we're at it
Yggdra Union remaster released on Switch and Steam last year. I haven't really seen anyone mention it. Digitally only in English. They remastered Blaze Union and Gloria Union in Japan only, with a physical bundle for all 3.
Sigh, i guess we Union fans STILL need to beg them to translate Blaze and Gloria.
Great stuff Eric! take care man.
The Crisis Core Remaster is one of my favorites. It really impressed me.
Great video, you are a genious! I am looking forwards to the Suikoden 1+2 remastered on the switch. Happy new year, Erick!
Well about that 1:31 nah grandia 1 in this remaster 100% is based off the ps1 port since they just emulated it and dint even use anything from the sega saturn original which is why some of the Saturn effects are not in.... It's not the definitive version but it does let you have one of the best skills at a lower level.
Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition is a terrible remaster. None of the additions you're talking about were added in that. It's essentially a straight port of the PS3 version and in fact, Definitive Edition REMOVED content and introduced new bugs and problems.
Literally the WORST example of how companies should remaster a game.
Shining refrain resonance was a great deal on the e shop and very small download too somehow.
Wish i could find more gameplay like it and the tales series if anyone knows some in the switch.
I'm not looking for turn based games aside tokyo mirage session but only when it gets a good deal
Reason versions of Ogre Battle are considered remakes is because they changed most of the gameplay systems. Just because they kept a graphical style doesn't mean it's the same game, a lot was changed drastically.
Just incase anyone is interested, Chocobo Dungeon Every Buddy on the PS4 is also in English. It might not state it, but it matches your region. I've got a video compilation that includes the PS4 version being played.
The slow downs in Legend of Mana remaster really bugged me that I had to refund the game on steam. I hope that they fixed it. A 15-20 minute run of a map would turn into 30-40 minutes because they couldn't optimize the fights without any slow downs. I'm willing to give it another chance in the future tho.
The best "remaster' by far is Xenoblade Chronicles DE imo. For this year is Star Ocean Remaster, I am thoroughly blown away by how good the game is.
I think Code of Princess EX is on Steam as well
Just started Nayuta and man oh man am I in love with it. I never got to play the original so this is also my very first time experiencing it.
I am playing it just now. Never played on psp because was in Japanese. It s fantastic. Falcom games are always great. This and ys games are the best action rpg ever
Thanks for the list. Didn't know ff12 had a pc version.
You know what I really want to be re-mastered, or at least port to PC or PS4? Chaos Wars and Spectral Souls, bring those to mee...
Please!!!
Ys8 is a remaster. It may have released first in the west but in Japan the PS Vita version released then the PS4 version.
What a list. I will play all them games, even if I have to emulate. Great video Erick and you are a inspiration to me.
Ever played Metal Max Xeno(the original one, because they completely removed the story in the remake)? A nichey JRPG with several interesting concepts and nice OST. I found it by mistake and I was blown away
Man I tried to get star ocean first departure r for switch but I can't find it since nintendo store in my region doesn't sell it.
Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together on the PSP and Tactics Ogre Reborn "ARE" remakes.
The storyline from all three games may be the same, yes, but the game mechanics of all three games couldn't be anymore different from one another. However, when it comes to storyline, a lot of characters were added to the Galgastani that were never in the original game, this was because the Loslorian and the Walister all had NPC characters and back story but the Galgastani had only Balbatos, Jenounes, Nybeth and his two children that you can get on your party in the neutral chapter. These new characters give humanity to a group of people who were just seen as "the enemy."
However, the reason these games are called remakes is specifically due to how they play and their gameplay mechanics as a whole.
On the original Tactics Ogre, class changes were little more than a difference in level up parameters, whether they class could use magic or not, and a single passive. Because every character could use every weapon(even if there was one weapon per class that gained a small bonus,) at level 50 soldier, amazon, knight, berserker, and archer were pretty much useless. Every other class either had a passive or could use magic that added to their effectiveness but that was the end of their differences.
On the PSP game there was a skill system that was added and each of the classes were now more defined. Every class in the game was very useful in performing specific tasks and allowed for party builds much like you'd see in a card game. However, the PSP game had a lot of issues that made this game incredibly grindy. Skills like Anatomy, Dragonology, etc, were required to deal decent damage to different types of enemies just as an example. So while you had to grind up a lot of different things to make these characters actually damage the enemies they were fighting, you had to build up job points to learn a lot of different skills to actually build the characters. Not only that but all classes started at level 1 regardless where in the game you got them at so these characters had to be thrown in the back corner and were literally useless during any battle they were in. So the issue with this game is that despite all the depth that was added you couldn't use any of it without an absurd level of grinding.
Tactics Ogre Reborn however took the PSP version as the base and worked redoing a lot of that games mechanics to perfection. They completely did away with the necessity to grind. There is no skill system in the way that the PSP version had it. Each character can now only equip four different skills and the skills were based on the level of the class and nothing more. Increased movement, jump, wading, etc, were now tied to equipment being upgraded to +1 or end game equipment period. Whether you could counterattack or not was now added to the weapon itself, weapons would either parry or counterattack. Shields have a guaranteed knockback not on the original game allowing for positioning. TP was removed and the MP/TP mechanics were now combined into one. Statistics and damage calculations are completely rebalanced(and drastically different from the other games) and then multiple skills on each class are now automatically triggered instead of tied to skills that were used.
While Reborn is closer to the PSP version in many of the mechanics , you have to grind a lot to get to that point on the PSP game. Between the completely rebalance and the game being very well balanced, the auto skills having more of a party build requirement to increase the odds of skill activation, and the fact that all of these mechanics will be available as early as act 2, yes, the game is a remake.
If you ask me, I'd call Final Fantasy Origjns a remaster than Tactics Ogre Reborn. What? Graphics are improved so it's a remake? What's really even remade about the game? These graphical updates are just touch ups. Everything on Origins except the extra difficulty, the bonus images, the ability to have attacking track the next target, and how many treasures are still available in each dungeon are the only real changes in the game. Final Fantasy Origins are just better graphics, a graphical touch up, while everything else in the game from spells, to dungeons, to gameplay are identical to the original game. A graphical remake is pretty much a remaster. They're not really remaking are they when everything plays identical.
Your statement of all three games being ports means that you haven't played more than one.
Is there top 10 couples in jrpgs
Number 1
You and your waifu
Need this
Fei and Ellie from Xenogears
End of discussion.
Squall and Rinoa ff8
FFX Tidus and Yuna.
Trails is a series EVERYBODY SHOULD PLAY 100% agree
Star ocean first departure R, "In game don't look modern at all"
Octopath traveller, hold up.
Leiftrasir is awesome but every Time i see it i end up crying in the Muramasa Démon Blade Remaster waiting room.
Is Witcher 3 on ps5 a remaster.. If it is ps5 ver witcher 3 would be my top..
36:58 because it's a Nintendo exclusive game like Xenoblades Chronicles
You mentioned Final Fantasy 8 and 9 remasters, but the visuals you showed were from FF7 and FF8. Was this a mistake?
He said 7,8, and 9 and watch again he shows footage for all 3
Square needs to put out a Final Fantasy 9 remake/remaster.
Tactics too
FF9 remaster is already out and based on Unity/mobile version, not a remake but a remaster with higher res, upscaled backgrounds, new models and some QoL features. It's moddable too.
I love Celceta. I think it is underrated. Combat feels the best in that game!
There is weirdly enough a phiscal copy of strangers of sword city on the xbox one and 360. But only in japan. But they have english sub.
"Xbox" and "Only in Japan" are two words I never expected to hear within two sentences.
@@PeruvianPotato yeah still tho there are some weird Xbox one japanese physical exclusive.
DMC4 special edition, death mark, strangers of sword city, choas child,Romance Of The Three Kingdoms Sangokushi 13,PSYCHO-PASS Mandatory Happiness,PuyoPuyo Tetris, occultic;nine,Azito x Tatsunoko Legends And most of then are already above 60 dollers sadly.
Eh, I think Star Ocean counts. Its a Remaster of a Remake, but isn't a Remake itself.
Super Mario rpg. They fixed a lot of the clutter and gave us post game stuff. That's a gold star.
Tales of vesperia R. Aside the English VA thing. Adding a few character. Extra missions and stuff here and there was very nice. Wish the secret boss was better.
Shining refrain resonance. Adding a couple extra characters is cool so it kinda counts.
Already gonna say paper Mario ttyd when I play it next year it's gonna be epic.
Super mario would be considered a remake not a remaster
@@filialuvssquigly7447 it's a remaster. They updated the graphics the powers the gameplay and even post game. It's not a port one for one
@@ivanbluecool there are also several other changes making it a remake not a remaster... look it up it's a remake then look up the difference between a remake and remaster. While it is a remake that plays it very safe it is still in fact a remake.
I'd argue Code of Princess is one of the most disappointing "remasters" of all time. They look terrible, and I'm not sure why they couldn't rerender the sprites in HD. I'm so mad because I know they could have done better, and I would have loved to play it in true HD.
The only problem i have with Zodiac Age is the playstation version that decided to do away with the beautiful original save menu and replace it with sony's bland system save file menu. Sounds silly but that specific point is a downgrade imo, especially considering they're the only ones who have done this
I loved the Tales of Vesperia remaster on Switch, the only issues I had were the translation errors in the new texts, having Yuri's voice actor changed for the new lines, and how it was 30fps on Xbox One and Switch during exploration segments when in the Xbox 360 it was 60fps.
In Tales of Symphonia remaster it is "understandable", as all the ports have been of the PS2 version instead of the GameCube version that was locked at 60fps.
I have the eu ps4 version of kowloon highschool chronicle, so it's not a "only in Japaaaan!" game 😜
Don't know anyone else who knows this much about rpgs or jrpgs lol 👍
Final Fantasy 7 on PC is not a remaster it's the same old version with minor update for DRM to change it to Steam from disc-based that 7th Heaven undoes anyway, there's a cheat in Windows version on Microsoft Store, which IS updated, unlike the Steam one. BUT just mod any instead. Final Fantasy VIII remaster is lackluster but all models were updated, something mods for now can't do in it, HD texture modding is in a bad state. Original disc version is also on Steam. FF9 tho IS a proper remaster for platforms which didn't have it, Memoria and maybe Moguri mod are welcome too.
I hope we get a port or remaster of grandia 3 & X
23:35 I remember seeing the cover art for that game at my local video game store. I honestly would've bought it because of it's boxart.😅
2024 and my guy still isn't creating bookmarks in his video -.-
Hi Erick! Been watching your videos lately. I bought a Retroid Pocket 3 + and was wondering what games to get. I am going abroad to work and wanted to put as many games as I can on the device. Dozens of your videos later I managed to fill up my device. I just want to say thank you and Happy New Year!
I also think Nintendo will lose that crown. However, I don't agree with your comment of them scraping the bottom of the barrel with remakes/remasters. To name a few
Eternal darkness
Several Fire emblem titles
Costume robo
Zelda orical/ages
Metroid prime 1&2
Super metroid
kid icuras uprising
Xenoblade chronicles X
Pokemon coliseum/XD
All games I have seen people ask for remade/remastered in the last few years.
Monster Rancher a Pokémon clone just because of monster training? uhmmm no
i could consider MR closer to Digimon World 1 monster training rather than Pokemon (or even Tamagochi pet training since Digimon originally is a Tamagochi clone)
Like it or not but pokemon is what most new to the game will likely compare it too.
@@Kain5th that's sad
Add game list.
Nice vid, but its a clusterfuck of content. Markers on the time or just time stamp with the game title would clear this quickly
He should do that but he wants the clicks
low quality vid then,
@@Kain5th
Very good video
There is an Asian switch release for Saga Scarlet Grace.
I’m sad dragons crown never found its way to the switch 😭 would be amazing. I feel the same way about Odin Sphere and Muramasa 😂 as well as the first 2 cold steal games 😤 I mean seriously we have 3 and 4 but not the first 2👻
I actually got ticked by that I bought the Asian versions of cold steal 1 and 2 for the switch last year…… I’ve definitely played them enough that I don’t care if the games are not in English.
Everyone is praising grandia 1 and 2… was grandia 3 just something that people forgot about 😱
I'm so sad that tales of symphonia remaster is such a disappointment
Finally; Valkyria Chronicles getting a shoutout again from someone! Hell yeah.
Great Video :)
JRPG Time
Enjoying the SaGa love here.
Just hope Capcom does a Breath of Fire 3 remake
are you going to do more reviews in 2024?
I wonder what your thoughts are on P3 Reload
Are you really surprised at how many are digital only in NA? That's the route publishers are going here.....eventually, EVERYTHING will be Digital Only in NA. Gotta protect their ultra-high profit margins, ya now..(especially with them also pushing to do more with AI.)
Still waiting Suikoden
32:15 Google Stadia has been dead for a while
wasn't that the joke?
Suwitch
who's the blonde hair waifu in the thumbnail Erick? tnx
Alisa Reinford, from The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series.
Amboutocummahhhhh
Beginning a video about the best remasters with Chrono Cross and Grandia is shameful. I think in this video should only be good remasters, not bad ports.
Tactics Ogre Reborn. Nothing was remade, seriously? If only its true, i would play this version instead PSP! They remade most important things, like classes, cards, skills, HP bloat, character stats, lvl up system... cut off all random battles and make training battle instead. I would call this a Screwedmake.
But why do i feel that Mana khemia is better than all this games except FFX.....
And legend of Mana
The best part of these "remasters" is all of the woke censorship. -_-
Coomer lmao
Which lol? XD jRPGs were censored a lot back then because of conservatives who blamed shootings on videogames. Nowadays there's less censorship because world is more liberal and you can have blood and religion in games.
There's a reason why Tales of Vesperia's Yuri is the thumbnail, because the Tales of Vesperia is a perfect remaster. Everything runs great, looks better than the original, and there's extra content added. Now if only Tales of Symphonia could get a remaster/port that does justice for the original...
All remasters are shitty and money grabber, nothing more.
First! Love Your content!
Chrono Cross includes ideological censorship. It's a bad remaster.
What did they censor?
Its too ‘woke’ for ya?
??????
@@xxJing bigger underwear on a 6 year old's updated model. Which is OPTIONAL too, there's a toggle for old models right in menu for those who really want a SIX YEAR OLD to wear smaller underwear. None of the teens got this treatment only literal preteen children, other is like 9.
@@KasumiRINA That's a totally understandable change. I'd rather not have people thinking Chrono Cross is a lolicon game.
Eric this is an amazing list to compile i. The compendium of the internet for JRPG Fans and I thank you soo much for this brother!! 🫂 Also is there anyway that you can add “Foot Notes” to each Jrpg mentioned?
