    I wish the series would have started with Henry’s coronation and his marriage to Catherine. Their marriage was a happy and harmonious one for a long time actually.

      I wish the same thing. They brush over a lot in the series. It's still good, though, in my opinion, in its own right, if not always accurate.

      I was thinking the same thing - it would be perfect if they made a show focusing on another royal household of the era where Henry and Katherine were this relationship goals side characters who sort of serve as an example to the main couple, so that the eventual dissolution of their marriage is even more devastating, especially as the audience are aware of what looms in the future

      I super like the chemistry of these two...that even in seasons 2-4 whenever they mention Catherine of Aragon, I intepret some love an affection from the King (or I am just living in subtext!)

    This series never showed just how much Henry and Kathryn really did love each other. Prior to Ann Boleyn coming onto the scene and Henry becoming obsessed with having a son, he truly truly loved Kathryn of Aragon and they had a very long, successful and loving marriage.

    • @Anna-gg9wj

      I wouldn't say to happy, given that he had multiple mistresses before Anne came along. He even had a child with one of them. I know that the standards were different back then but it wasn't true love between them, more so affection and respect for a time, but even that ended when Anne came into the picture

      @@Anna-gg9wjI definitely believe Henry loved Catherine the most. Historians have found letter of him writing to her & writing to other to come visit him & his new wife so he could show off how “bella” she was. Seems like he was head over heels for her compared to the others, but again that’s just my opinion

      I think we have that impression because she came from a long family line of kings and queens from Spain. Anne Boleyn and his other wives were low born nobles (compared to Catalina), so they didn't have powerful relatives to threaten Henry in case he did something bad to them (that's why he didn't kill Catalina, she was aunt of the most powerful man in Europe in that time)

    The Tudors is known for having ridiculously inaccurate costumes, but poor Katherine was given some especially ridiculous ones. As if it wasn't bad enough that they tried to make her older than she was, they seem to have tried to reduce her sex appeal with ridiculous costuming, as well. And what tf is up with those ugly hats?
    I wish the costumes had been a bit more accurate. I understand that they wanted to exert creative influence, and jazz things up, but they could have done so while giving the costumes some semblance of accuracy. Most of them are just bizarre.

      This is ..... incredibly inaccurate. Henry wanted to marry Katherine. Full stop. His father, Henry VII, didn't approve because Katherine was his brothers widow, so he waited till he was both coronated and 18. Henry VIII loved Katherine, and for a long while they were incredibly happy in their marriage, until he didn't get the son that he wanted. That's when things started falling apart. There was no betrothal contract or marriage contract between Katherine and Henry after Arthur died, they fell in love, and got married. Period, end of story.

He had known her propose to stay surely was to be queen, as all of her sisters was made to be queen across kingdoms... He did his best as a husband... But she couldn't give him son that he wanted... I'm not sure who was selfish... I think, Henry was the unfortunate one because of marrying her(widow, much older, couldn't produce son).. That was why he looked for another woman who was able to fulfill his young desire, smart, fresh, and could give him a son as that was a tradition, that a king should have a male heir to strengthen his kingdom... He looked for woman who suited/matched with him...

    • @cathleenmonroe1175
      @cathleenmonroe1175  6 лет назад +99

      She was 6 years older than him. She was only 23 when they got married. Of course we don't how he really felt, but there is strong evidence he loved her in the beginning as much as any king loved his queen in the 16th century.Finally, you shouldn't feel sorry for him because she "couldn't produce a son": she was perfectly capable of bearing children, but only 1 girl survived, through no fault of her own. In fact, considering Anne Boleyn's child-bearing record, some medical historians think Henry's health was the reason for their combined 5 stillbirths, 2 miscarriages, and an infant boy dying young.
