I like using a 2 man footlock conclave as a “cheap” bodyguard for Eldrad. As you mentioned, Proxy, they’re also good for assassinating light infantry, but also had some REALLY good luck taking out Tau stealth suits with the Eldrad/warlock bodyguard combo. Destructor is good for taking out at least one suit and then the three of them pretty much mop up whatever’s left of the squad in close combat.
I tried a couple of skyrunners and one of the had the reader of runes. I kept the reader in the back screening until turn 3 to help out against a group of guards on reinforcent. Love them!
Been toying around with running some as characters in my Iyanden themed list instead of bodyguards for my farseers, but with 5 characters already, its gonna be pretty easy to get scored on for Assassination
Ya that’s true, however locking your opponent into fixed objectives can throw them off and you could always just hide the characters and make your opponent work for it! Plays both ways!
You certainly make a case for treating the Warlocks on the 'situational' level of the tier tree, rather than the 'don't bother' level. Their best use remains as Windrider support, but there is one problem. Adding a Warlock makes that unit number 10, which makes it may more fragile to blast keyword weapons.
@@ProxyHammer1I’m always tickled and weirded out by the vision of two of the most elite and rare members of the Eldar race being guarded by / babysitting ten absolute nobodies (or three biking-enthusiasts) who were drafted into a life-or-death battle.

Thats a nice sleeper hit use for the Warlock Skyrunner, though Shroud Runners fill most of those roles (stealth, blocking, assassination) for more straightforward value Otherwise, I've been contemplating assembling a foot autarch, warlock, and storm guardians as a sort of (completely uncompetitive) bodyguard and objectives capturing unit, with a decent mix of torrent and melta weapons, whilst also being able to take Phoenix Gem and Fate's Messenger in one unit. At 275pts its pricey but not crazy, though a Skyrunner Farseer+Warlock and 9 Windriders seems like a far better investment.
Probably too much value in one unit as you opponent will definitely want to take it out at that point but it does have some really good combo potential!!
You are really telling us to have wizards running on foot and alone into danger to shout “You shall not pass!” at Balrogs trying to cross narrow passages.
The units i wish were a bit cheaper! Nice ideas, not too bad if you have 45 pts left over and can't figure out what to take out to get rangers etc. Honestly would love the solo foot guy if he was like 20-25points! And the conclave for like 35 as a bodyguard would be nice...
I am keen to start using a foot warlock + storm guardians when the balance dataslate drops. Won't take much of a drop (if internal balance is addressed) to make that 160pt unit low enough to actually run. Surrrrrely the balance will drop the storm guardians down, etc, and not just increase Wraiths/yncarne/spinners right..? :)

My opinion of warlocks in 10e has been very skewed because in my first game of 10e, my warlock had restrain up on guardian defenders on a mid board objective and the Bladeguard that were advancing and charging failed their charge by 2”. Basically one of the factors that won me the game. I also am a big fan of warlock Skyrunners with a blob of bikes loaded with shuriken cannons, that’s been very scary for a lot of my opponents
What do you think about running a warlock with storm gardians to auto advance to score midfield objectives (probably more against slower enemies though) which will bait your opponent in for a charge if shooting didn't work. Then phantasm the unit which makes the charge harder but still doable and then use restraint to add a extra negative 2 to the charge, causing it to almost have no chance to work and they fail the advance. However, the guardians unit is not in range of the objective any more either but the objective is sticky so you can potentially still keep it, or at the least, keep one of their units off that turn.
would you say that Warlock weapons are poor compared to those of Guardians or Dire Avengers? Even though the only reason to use Psychic swords or spears is if they were better than non-psychic weapons? And there is no lore reason why they couldn’t use less demanding, more effective weapons that they already trained to use?
@ what if a Warlock’ aspect experience was with the Howling Banshees or Striking Scorpions? Is the Warlock trading up or down with the new psyker sword or spear? Likewise with Shining Spears and Warlock Skyrunners.
@ either that or their lore could change so that Warlocks didn’t necessarily serve as Aspect Warriors first. Which might jive better with how Ulthwe needs as many Seers as possible but can’t afford to have many Aspect Warriors.
@@TerryBradstreet Technically speaking its all about a frame of mind, yes warlocks serve as aspect warriors often but not always, and also stat wise they are the same they just super nerfed their weapons this edition for some reason
