Hey Proxy! I loved this discussion on narrative play, you and Taxi kept me great company while I was painting, and I really enjoyed it! Since I’m more of a narrative-driven wargamer, I’d love to add my two cents. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but personally, I’m not enjoying 10th edition much. I’ve played five games at my FLGS since the start of this edition-two against Necrons, one against an Inquisition soup of Sisters of Battle and Imperial Guard, one against Space Marines, and one against Grey Knights. Honestly, I can’t remember anything specific about those games because the streamlined rule set feels so generic, making the experience, for lack of a better word, pretty boring. This edition is described as the most competitively oriented in recent times, and I totally agree. I feel the rules are designed to be as simple as possible to understand and interpret, which is great for tournaments but really hurts the “fluffy” aspect of the game. Case in point, many factions have become more generic in both rules and miniatures, losing the lore-driven rules and units that used to make each faction unique. This isn’t just about Space Marines, though they’re a prime example. From what I can tell, it seems GW is trying to make the game more tournament-friendly, cost-efficient in production, and appealing to beginners. But the side effect is a loss of the cool, thematic aspects of the game. Add to that the FOMO-driven release cycle of new models and rules, and it’s honestly a bit exhausting. When I compare this with Warhammer: The Old World (totally different setting and rules, but the point still stands), I’m having more fun than ever since returning to the hobby. The Old World rules give each faction a distinct theme, encouraging players to create their own armies, heroes, and stories so that every game, no matter how casual, feels like a beautiful narrative experience. Is it balanced? By all the gods, real and fake absolutely not! But it doesn’t matter, because, and I think most of us feel this way, the goal is to have fun with thematic, story-driven games. Do I have a solution to all this? Not a reliable one. What I thought of was having two distinct rule sets-one for narrative-driven games and another for the tournament/competitive side. But then what about the codexes? Release two versions, or put everything in one codex and increase the prices? I’m not sure, and frankly, I wouldn’t even want the responsibility of deciding. It’s a complicated situation for GW. They’re a big, international corporation in a niche, increasingly expensive hobby, and those two things don’t always go together well. This comment’s so long, I could use it as a TEDx script 😂 Hope it’s not too confusing, but I’m very invested in this discussion!

I've been a fan of the Craftworld Eldar since July of 1990 (that's when I discovered 40k), it's awesome to see new figures of their legendary characters and heroes! I will certainly have to get this updated model of Fuegan ASAP.

I wish power axes and power fists would make a comeback for the regular eldar foot soldiers.

I like playing two Lords. They offer some much needed toughness / durability on objective markers. They're extremely swingy, however, most opponents think twice before attacking them acting as a good deterrent (especially if you have a fate dice or farseer close by), or fulfilling the role of a distraction carnifix. Being on a big base it's also quite easy to get cover with them. Let's hope their ability gets a refresh in the codex.

fuegan looks COOL AS HELL, i really hope when the codex comes ynnari will be able to take phoenix lords so i can run him in ynnari! (although honestly i probably have enough stuff to run full craftworld lists now, especially after i grab the inevitable launch FOMO box that will come with the codex haha...)

I'm hoping the Fire Dragon Exarch gets to take some version of the Fire Axe in the new kit. I think it's likely, considering the "new" (2019) Banshees got an exarch triskele (like Jain Zar), and the new Reapers got an exarch shuriken cannon (like Maugan Ra). Hopefully an Axe-Dragon exarch isn't neutered in shooting, maybe instead of a firepike he can only take the regular dragon gun alongside the fire axe.

7:10 Yeah, I would prefer the Phoenix lords to be more powerful and a bit more expensive. They should be hyper elite units

I only have two small complains about this model. A: I don't like sculpted banners... but I get why GW does them, so that the average painter can get it look decent without doing freehands or applying decals. B: I kinda miss the lizard/dragon scale on his cloth. That aside I love it, very faithful to Jes Goodwin design exactly like all the other recent aeldari releases.

I love the new Fuegan model! 🔥 Very happy that it's an update and not a complete rework. I hope this is the way GW goes with the other Phoenix Lords.

once eldari gets a range refresh im gonna made an army, it will be my first full 40k army and it will be mostly made up of their old tanks

"They aren't always going to be fighting with the good guys" are you implying the aeldari aren't the good guys?

I got the old metal one in great shape for 5$ from a friend.. I'll probably keep using him because I don't run Fuegan a lot.. with that said, the sculpt is fire.

Am I the only one that expected more? This model, especially the banner(1992 called, they want their back banners returned), is a total let down. More GW half-assedness for the fanboys to fawn over. If this is their best effort, I can only imagine what a train wreck the new codex will be.

I still would prefer guardian defenders to have a +1 attack so they are a decent light melee unit (with the price to match) but hopefully that and special guns for snooty guardians will come in the codex.

Games Workshop messed up the warp spider Phoenix lord in second edition so badly that they just never made one, like ever. The Striking Scorpions got two In 3rd edition. Two Phoenix lords! The Harlequins basically have a Phoenix lord. The creative minds at GE created an entire new faction of Eldar with their own Phoenix lord, with Maugan and Jain working part time in two factions. The only way GW could show more contempt to the aspect shrine dedicated to the craft world’s immune system would be to retcon the lore in 11th to say it was really Eldrad Uthran but he was dodging his alimony payments so he hid as a Farseer this whole time.

I 3d print everything, but this model is so good I'm actually temped to give money to GW... that's how baller this sculpt is.

As much as Fuegan and Fire Dragons are goated, I can't help but think his pose looks very similar to one of the recent Dark Reapers sculpts. I realize that models with really long weapons have limited choices since they have to minimize how horizontal the model ends up, but I suppose the Jain Zar sculpt set a pretty high bar.

Finally. Feels good to have some more new models released. Starting to get hyped.

i wish gw would do the phoenix lords justice and give them super beefy statlines and up the cost. they're supposed to be like primarchs right?

If all the rumours are true (Valrak track record quite reliable) it's indeed seems more optimistic then ever, especially new Corsair stuff with stuff like Yriel and Vyper. Karandras seems to be coming later probably in Arks of Omen/Psychic Awakening type of campaign with which GW likes to put updated hero models. Wl

My dude! Played a Fate's Messenger Footarch with mandiblasters D Spinner & Glaive in a falcon and he busted out around 10 mortals at a dreadnought after grenades (tm)

I was surprised voidscarred didn't have different price for 5 and 10, i.e. 75/160 or 70/150. You get a lot of powerful specialists at 10, at 5 you have just one special weapon.

For the Enigma version, could be an idea to use it as a second Autarch in reserve, and to Rapid Ingress him for counterattack thanks to the fight first. It's so cheap that we could afford it

I've been playing him since forever, now It's even greater asset. It's like generating virtually 3Cp's on your turn. Paired with the storm guardians, of course, now a fixed component of my army thanks to your constant recommendation of those guys.
