Relentless westerlies means western rain

  • The next week or two around New Zealand are going to be dominated by westerly quarter winds that will surge off and on from lighter to stronger to gale and even severe gale. This relentless westerly flow means that western regions of both main islands will get the most amount of rain with some spillover a little further to the east and to the south.
Over on the West Coast rainfall totals may get up to 500 mm (or more) in some places from the very north to the very south of the South Island over the next 15 days - mainly in the mountains, however for those east of the Southern Alps, in coastal Canterbury, it may only be 5 to 15 mm over the next half a month.
We break down the windy weather, the calmer spells, the colder changes and who gets the rain - we also have two rain maps, one covering the next seven days and the other covering the next 15 days.

Relentless is definitely the word. Not many fishing opportunities on the horizon. From a farming perspective great for the seagulls and challenging as to whether you take the rain coat or not when you go do your spring time chores.

take the rain coat, precipitation enhancement is real and a crime

Wonder where the rain is, as it sure isn't here in Oamaru, and another beautiful day. I have never listened to forecast, never had, what will be will be, and there is nothing you can do about it if its raining today or not, therefore my reason for a forecast is pointless. There are more important things to be concerned about.

Just hope these Southern Ocean storms produce enough upwelling in the Tasman Sea to bring the cold water up from the bottom of the seafloor and knock out these Marine Heatwaves in the area

I Guess with size of the storm, whatever energy was used to engineer it, the changing season, the upcoming new moon and the ultrasonic vibration off the 6.9 shake by Tonga and the solar flair 2 weeks ago, this is gonna be a fun week.. the lakes might heat up
You do an awesome report mate. Thank you
