    i remember this day. no one cared about the football, it was a showdown of the bands. two of the best bands in the state if not the country in the same room together. you could cut the tension with a knife. I still think the 110 won this round however.

    Let's also give hats off to the OU110 director for coming into the skull session and saying "You know what, screw it... let's just hit'em hard..."

    I like like how the OSU band starts looking around after the 110 starts Long Train Running. Cuz they wanted to play it...but the 110 did. Only better.

    Both bands bring their own style. OU is a party school, so the Marching 110's routine goes with it well. Ohio State is a more traditional, blue collar school and TBDBITL's routine reflects the school well, and is excellent. I personally care for TBDBITL more, but I understand where both fan bases are coming from. I'm an OSU fan that pulls for the other Ohio schools unless they are playing the Buckeyes.

    I am a diehard OSU fan and do believe we have the best damn band in the land but man.... This band is entertaining. They are so goofy. I love the sense of humor. It is hilarious.

    ok, OU110 and OSUMB have two different styles of marching. To say one is better than the other, is like saying Beethoven is better than Blink182. You just can't, it's two different styles.
    IMO, OSUMB just has a hype because their fball team is awesome.
    You know when a band is good, when most of the crowd comes to the games for the band, I would know, I go to school there.

    I grew up with the OSU band going to OSU games and skull sessions... I love the tradition of OSU,Script Ohio and the Dotting of the "I" by the sousaphone player, but I went to Lakewood High School and we marched 110 high step and did all the dancing too... For me to see the 110 do Long Train and the sousaphones get that dance is what made me want to join the 110 if i where to go to OU...

    @nivekeryas lol. I think I was inebriated when writing that, but the point stands. OSU is nowhere NEAR the best band in any land, and it its not because they are less than great. They are just so boring to watch. Even some local high schools are more entertaining to watch. THAT is what it comes down to at the end of the day. You can be amazing in every aspect, but if everyone goes to the bathroom or concessions when you perform, then it is all for nothing.

    @DCHStrumpet Is that how you justify it? Ah, well, whatever you need to tell yourself. I also see that most of the recipients are from schools in big conferences. Little ol' MAC doesnt get much attention, as usual. I'm not worried, eventually they will run out of big name schools and start going to the smaller conferences, and the 110 will get one too, just like everyone else. Until then, the 110 will still have their fans, and OSU will still have football fans that see the band every so often.

    @ChemistryWins I would also like to point out that the first two recipients of the award were voted on by sports journalists. The next year, 1984, Ohio State won the trophy when it was decided on by the votes of college marching band directors. So yes, Michigan and Illinois won the trophy the first two years, but the first legitimate award went to OSU... but you already knew that, didn't you?

  • @nivekeryas

    @americansmark I think it really depends on your preference. I for one think that TBDBITL is fairly interesting and entertaining to watch, and some high school bands (I'm in a high school marching band) are fairly boring.
    But clearly you don't enjoy watching TBDBITL like I do, and that's your prerogative.

    @nivekeryas Touche´. I just think they are not the caliber of the bad they should be for a national contender program like OSU is. The shoe falls the other way in Athens. We have arguably the best band in the country and yet one of the most lackluster football teams around (no offense Cats but prove me wrong). This argument could go on for weeks, with neither of us making headway. lol. Let's just say both bands are the best equally in very different ways. ;)

    Actually, Woody Hayes gave tOSUMB that title. And If you're referring to the time that OU was named the best, it was by someone who included Stanford on the list. All credibility is now gone.

    @gbms86 Major jealousy?

  • @lunchbag08
    @lunchbag08 13 лет назад

    @nivekeryas tbdbitl is an self proclaimed title that OSU fans gave their band because OSU fans dont know anybetter. in no way shape or form has OSU even been voted best band in the nation, on the contrary the 110 has.....

  • @nivekeryas
    @nivekeryas 14 лет назад

    @americansmark Agreed.
    Just to reply to your 'not the caliber of the band they should be', I'd have to personally disagree. Perhaps they aren't quite the same performance wise like the 110 is, but that's because of the attitude that the OSUMB has. It's just not how they roll, per se, to be dancing around and whatnot. They uphold a very professional and orderly appearance when they are performing. Last year, for instance, they performed Thriller and danced to it; most of them did not like that.

  • @nivekeryas
    @nivekeryas 14 лет назад +1

    @americansmark Ha! Like TBDBITL would ever be jealous of anyone.
    I'll be fair. Being in the 110 clearly takes lots of physical energy, but so does being in TBDBITL. And since you can't see the rest of TBDBITL during this video, you should know that many of them clapped along and clearly enjoyed the 110's performance (I was there). I also enjoyed the 110's performance. But in no way does the 110 beat TBDBITL in terms of outright skill, or playing. You need to look at this logically.
