Lyrics
Losing sleep, in too deep
Fading sun, what have I done
Came so close to what I need most
Nothing left here
Cut the ties, uncover disguise
Left behind all intertwined
Lost control, moved out of the role now
Nothing's left here
Leave it be
It was meant for me
Soul sacrifice
Forgot the advice
Lost track of time
In a flurry of smoke
Waiting anxiety
For a fair judgement deserved Видеоклипы
This song has the best guitar solo Opeth has ever done
Adding blues/jazz elements to a song in this genre without killing its melody is just a remarkable feat...and its a really hard thing to do...they're doing that...
lets take a moment to appreciate the drumwork from Martin Lopez. He is missed in Opeth and one of the most unique drummers in metal!
Agreed. Did you listen to his new band Soen?
I always wondered if he can reproduce the same drumming at a concert or if it sounds different every time. I mean I can't follow him at all, no idea what he's doing.
100% agreed.
For me the Lopez years were Opeth’s best.🤘🏻
Axenrot is more jazzy , he's a f***ing good drummer too and now he missed me too
@@Daddy53751 Opeth would not have sounded like they did during Lopez's tenure if it wasn't for Martin Lopez
One of Opeth's most underrated songs. Love the trademark Akerfeldt bluesy solos.
This song is such a beauty, and the outro riff is devastating.
yea..one of the heaviest riffs ever
So many of Akerfeldt’s lyrics sound so much deeper than just the main intended meaning. “Leave it be, it was meant for me. Soul sacrifice, forgot the advice. Lost track of time, in a flurry of smoke” really sounds like the obvious idea of your life coming to a close, but it’s also kinda describing your duty in this world and just pondering what it even means to be a human. Like almost regretting fulfilling your role because it prevented you from being more present
I've never read a comment and felt more connected to what the person writing it meant. On an understanding or personal level.
Well Said!
The outro is out of this world.
Takes you out of this world as well. It's a fade out (du-dum tssss)
This outro and Heir Apparent are their most evil riffs in my opinion.
Not is it only one of the most evil riffs ever written in isolation, but it's meaning in context of this song and the build-up to it make it one of the best Opeth moments ever imo
To think, that Mikael was not satisfied with the end results, just show his talent and determination. I also think this outro was perfect, but Mikeael doesnt think so til' this day!
Hello fellow king crimson enjoyers
Play this at my wedding, play this at my funeral
Thank you, Opeth
It's bands like them who make the world less shitty, in my humble opinion.
I am grateful to live in a time where we have beautiful and fantastic music like this one.

My favorite clean vocals-Opeth song.
The ending of this song gets stuck in my head all the time, and I haven’t listened to this tune in like 9 years.
Hell yea! Keep it alive 💪
Is nobody gonna talk about how god damn fucking EPIC the riff at 1:54 is…?!
This song perfectly melds the beauty of thier progressive rock tendencies and the bands epic big riff melody approach. Always been a favorite of mine. How about that mid section too guys, the subtle guitar build-up leading to the vocals "soul sacrifice"...brilliant...cheers folks enjoy
That solo @ 5:09 speaks more than most songs' full lyrics
true that
This is my all time favorite song from Opeth. Such an amazingly diverse band.
Yeah man same, I had the luck of being able to see them live, during their Heritage tour, and halfway through their set, they dimmed the lights and started to play the piano riff and everyone lost it, and then they played a kickass set of fair judgement and it was phenomenal! Best song man.
@@realchilldude1271 one day I hope to see them live.
Man are these guys brilliant
yes
Am I the only one who finds their heavier music weirdly relaxing?
Absolutely not, many Metalheads, including myself, find that our heart rates drop when listening to our preferred metal music.
Not at all. Before I was 'into' these metal genres, I thought anyone listening to metal was always at high-tilt. Now, one of my absolutely favorite (and by far most relaxing) things is to be drunk on an airplane, sitting at the window, really getting into and analyzing some metal tracks - not always mellow ones like this, either. Often this is Opeth. Rooster is right about the heart rates.
Heck, i find meshuggah so relaxing
You're definitely not the only one - I fall asleep to these beautiful melodies. Sometimes it's the only way I can sleep.
No:)
the outro of this song is a masterpiece i can feel so much love but also anger/distress
This song is epic. I'm relaxing while listening to this song.

2024 and still one of the best songs opeth ever made
This whole album in and out is perfection its my favorite opeth album.
This song is a masterpiece
My favorite song of theirs - I think that is A Fair Judgement!
this song is fucking brilliant
Perfect lockdown music... Listening to Opeth on lonely winter quarantine late nights... Dare I say I enjoy this lockdown
So, how did that enjoyment of the lockdown fair so far?
@@thesmart1000 It was good...can't wait till its winter and cold again... :-)

Trauma
For some strange reason from 8:07 onwards I picture on my mind the painting called Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog. I feel the sound matches this picture really well.
Both things bring me the same feeling: contemplation of life.
Leave it be, it was meant for me. Just beautiful.
Everybody talking about the ending riff (which is really fantastic)
But the 5:46 riff is one of the most heartbreaking riffs i've ever heard
This is so beautifully Opeth that it is my go to song for introducing people to the band.
I am looking for "that" song, too right now. It's so hard with Opeth. ;D
I would also recommend Ghost of Perdition, Godhead's Lament, The Drapery Falls, or Closure.
I think whole Damnation record for non metal people and Deliverance for metal people or Still life.
I perfectly remember the first time I listened to this masterpiece. I used to listen to music to sleep during Highschool, and I had downloaded a random metal list into my Ipod. I was already sleeping, but then this came in, and I had to wake up immediately and was totally mesmerized by it, and my jaw dropped with the heavy/soft riffs, final solos and outro. I put it on repeat several times trying to process the mastery. I already knew Opeth a bit by then, but I am sure this is the song that made me a huge fan ever since.
This album is pure magic
For me the top spot used to be a tie between morningrise and deliverance, but this album just seems to get better and better as I get older. Magic indeed.
@@rachskaldi am having the same debate in my head rn this and morningrise are absolutely stunning works of music
Dark and chill
There is really so much to unpack in their music. The more you listen, the more you discover.
The outro to this song and most Opeth songs are so fucking amazing. Its like they give u a present for listening to the whole song and reaching the end.
Я давно не отримував такого задоволення від музики дякую Opeth
This band is just out of this world
That solo gives me chills every time I hear it (same feeling I'm getting from Mastodon's The Czar - spiral part)!! I adore this song!
This song to me has the most opeth (old and new) solo section ever and I love it so much for that reason
Sing beautifully for the old blood. Treatment for the ears. Need more music like this!
If there's a greater and grander finish in metal I've yet to hear it.
And I'm nearing 50!!
Almost 30 years and I can fall asleep to orchid, balckwater park, and any of the pre 2004 stuff...
When I'd get home after dieing in the sun at work. I'd sit. And put this on, or "When".
And play it a few times with a beer and joint and sit by my beautiful wife and just think -
absorbing the day, preparing to hear her, to motivate myself again somehow for tomorrow.
It was my ritual. It always pulled me through...I'd put the music on before I even sat down. I needed it.
6:57 is something I can only describe as otherworldly
We feel you bro, we feel you
Severely underrated album!
It's ranked by many as one of their best.

Chillin in italy right now my brother just told me to listen to this
so calm and beautiful! Opeth at their best! Epic solos and riffs!
The outro riff actually tricked my ears the first time I heard it. The way it descends or "walks down" made me think it was lowering in pitch every time it repeated. It's fucking genius, best riff ever written in E Standard easily
Lost track of time
In a flurry of smoke...
6:20 is divine
This song make me relax
The intro reminds me of DK64 Creepy Castle theme, some parts of the level, it just reminds something from the game...
9:41 that lars urich inspired fill
5:29 - love this moment of anticipation.
The song is so deep, and to wish you farewell, they make me want to study them.
Genius.
I mean to bid you farewell, duh.
They rock, for real.
Just freaking love this never get enough of it
Waiting anxiety a fair judgment is served...
How I love this song, has almost everything I love about opeth.
Beautiful, stunning....
Best outro ever
im surprised no one has sampled the intro.
AWESOME. What a great song.
Thank you so much for your wonderful music Opeth ! You make me travel since years :)
Masterpiece !
I feel like all the pain and sin of hell falls on me and I cry it out to who I love and tell how much of an escape that person is out of suffering. I enjoy this pain as an emotional unexplainable concentrated mind fuck. Perfect to expose my mind into a masterpiece any day of my life.
This is incredible ♥️
I love this song.
The sections starting at 3:48 and 4:33 are sublime, with the mention of the title of the track in the lyrics, at 5:05. The riff starting at 5:28 is just too beautiful and, somehow, reminds me of "Orion", from Metallica's _Master of Puppets_ (1986) album.
5:28 is to die for
His voice in the beginning sounds like Greg Lake´s. So wonderful...amazing music.
Love this
A master piece
Jak dla mnie to najlepszy utwór Opeth. Przy nim cały świat przestaje istnieć. Liczy się tylko ta muzyka...
Love you
One of the greatest songs ever written and it has only 2k likes, I mean talk about ignorance.

Just unknown
Spread word
Not really, they are well known in both metal and progressive rock.
wonderful
I’m crying
4:33 to 5:28 it's easily the best part on the whole song
I don't agree. There is so many layers in this song, its just that excellent.
The "lost track of time" hits different when you are tired at 3am
@@ozzylepunknown551 Especially if you chain-smoke in a small room and stay up until morning the song becomes too scarily literal.
Omg , this part will be always in my mind, always, Forever 💫

La mejor canción de Opeth, el final es alucinante.
4:43 lead us not into temptation. the body is your temple

@James Williams oh absolutely. But I'm one of those dudes that likes to hear a section of the song over and over again lol.

The outro riff sounds like Satan's entrance theme
Who else turns it up during the guitar part with the really low output? 😅

8:05 --- the chills down my spine. The best possible way to demand the presence of Satan.
If he or it exists, he's no one's friend. That's for sure.

Best work out music ever. 200 Calories per 30 mins with Opeth. Try this album on the elliptical.
Opeth is very inspirational to train. I usually listen their music when go for a run.
