So yeah, Pan am is very good for what it is, feels unique, and generally one of the best all round games i've played this year. Had some interesting discussions on the discord about how much the 4 different end goals change the scoring that i didn't mention in the video. That might be something that irks some people as they can be a bit more swingy than i personally first thought. But that's not necessarily a bad thing and if that really irks you all. You could always play with the final card being public knowledge.
I remember having a pretty miserable time. I felt a step behind everyone and had no way of catching up. Then the dice never rolled my way so I rarely had those big payouts.
Seems like a game right up my ally, but walked away frustrated. I wish there was more to the 'make yourself more attractive' bit...it's just dice rolling along a track.
I need to revisit this one I think.
In response to “The final round cards change the strategy drastically and that can be frustrating if you get screwed”. My house rule is to leave all 4 out the entire game for players to look at. Then shuffle and draw one when the time comes. It’s still random, the players feel like they had more ability to strategize around the different possibilities. If someone uses the “see the next event card” on round seven and we trust them enough to make a note about which one they chose on their phone.😊
Pretty solid suggestion that
I love this game! Its easy to teach new players and its a different game everytime you play it. My siblings and I played this game during the pandemic lockdown 2 years ago and its still a regular in our boardgame nights
Nice. yeah, really seems to me a case of a game that if folks have played it they dig it, but its flown under most peoples radars
Looks like it has some unique twists and I like the retro theming. I'll consider getting it.
Great review Jarrod! Finally got my hands on a copy and I'm excited to give it a whirl. Hoping it plays well at the 2 count. Thx!
Its great to get all these takes on the more accessible games you’ve been reviewing of late.
As good as it is to feel like Atlas under the crushing weight of the heaviest title, these games can be a refreshing change.
Cheers. With full time baby wrangling during the day, a lot of this coverage is happening because, late at night, i frequently dont have the brain energy for bigger, meatier titles.
@@3MBG I can totally relate, a one year old, a 6 year old and a 10 year old with an intellectual disability, Volko Ruhnke has needed to take a back seat 😂
Pan Am is really an interesting game. I got surprised the first time I played it, how satisfying it felt for its weight. I also left that first game with a dissatisfying taste due to not knowing there were end game goal cards in the deck (the person who explained the game completely ignored that aspect). My subsequent games had a better end game feeling because I knew all the factor in the game, and that gave it a positive boost. Really neat!
Yeah, this one was better than expected
good aesthetics on this one
I love this game. No one in my group is above okay with it so it doesn't get much table time though. Funny enough the pharmacy around the corner from me was once selling like twenty copies of this at discount and I couldn't help but wonder how they ended up with it.
I think it started life as a target game, so probably ended up in some trade magazines as a good game for general audiences
@@3MBG maybe. I picked it up at target myself for an absurd deal. Like fifteen bucks or something.
Great channel! Love this game.
When are you ever forced to sell stock? I've played four times and don't remember that happening?
If you bid more than you have cash you have to sell stock at a reduced value
@@jasoncronin9145 ah thanks. We've never done that. Interesting.
@@dankelly it's pretty harsh too. If I remember right it's current stock price minus 2 and you can't get change back. And if you are so poor your stock can't cover your bid you just lose it all and don't get the thing you bid on at all
Cheers Jason, yes, exactly that. It's sometimes worth it if you are cash poor and a good option comes up, but yeah, pretty punishing
